SO pay day just went by and my urge to start a horus heresy army can no longer be controlled- So, me being a classic spoon i have just dropped £300 on a new army!
I want to write out a fun list using as much pre heresy stuff as possible so please FYI i do not want to spam bikes with grav guns and centurions with tigirius!

The list i wrote out feels very minimal but its got all my favourite things in it... let me know what you think and suggest any changes if you like;

HQ
Master of the forge - bike 110 ( to allow the sicaran battle tank- FYI I wanted to take a chapter master smash bane with terminator armour, burning blade and storm shield to go with the terminator squad but it is difficult to fit it in.)

ELITES
Terminator sqaud - MKIV ( deep strike + Powerfist + storm blotters) 200

Mortis Pattern contemptor - Kheres pattern Assualt cannon - 200 ( IA Vol. 2 -2nd edition)

TROOPS
Drop pop tactical - combi melta, melta bombs, melta, drop pod 200

Drop pod tactical 2 - Combi melta, melta bombs, flamer 195

HEAVY SUPPORT
Legion Sicaran battle tank - lascannon sponsons 175

Tau Allies

HQ
Commander
Puretide, C&CN,MSSS,Iridium - 160 ( to go with the riptide)

ELITES
Riptide
Ion, Fusion - EWO, Stimulants- 225

TROOPS
10x Fire warriors - ( camping on home tree, holding objectives) 90

HEAVY SUPPORT
3 Broadside - SMS, HYMP 195

I'm new to running SM but hate the idea of running a similar list to all my friends - i know inevitable in the grand scheme of things but its fun at least to try and mix things up abit.

(please feel free to give me a hand with this)

PS don't be a dick about things if i've got them wrong or i'll fight you.

If you can spare the 15 points, get the Puretide Engram Neurochip for your Commander; it offers Tank or Monster Hunter for the Riptide.

Wait what. Tau Allies in 30k?? Weren't they still Hunter-Gatherers at that point in time? Unless you mean that you're running a 40k Iron Hands list that just takes real good care of their old stuff and still has it kicking around

Can you put the Mortis Contemptor in a Pod? Those guns are only 24" and they'll do quite a bit better against rear armor usually. Against Infantry you'll do the same but it would be better if they're castling. Also, having three pods would allow you to bring in 2 on turn 1.

If the FW are just camping, you don't need 10. 6 would be fine. Even if you wanted them to have bonding knives so they don't run off, they'll still be a pretty penny cheaper.
Personal preference thing, skip the stims on the Riptide.

And this isn't a personal preference thing, it's a bad luck thing :p my tactical terminators always die. If I could run them without them dying in one turn (unless they have a LR) I would, cause I love em, but they just always die.

You could throw an EWO in the Broadside unit for an even 200 pts and to help with those silly fliers. HYMP BS always do better for me against flyers than the Riptide but that's probably just a luck thing too.

And I always see the Master of the Forge with a Conversion Beamer. Especially on a bike. Give him Artificer Armor and a Storm Shield and he can run around the back of the board by himself sniping things with his hand mounted Demolisher Cannon (you gotta admit the profiles are pretty similar)

It is human nature to seek culpability in a time of tragedy. It is a sign of strength to cry out against fate, rather than to bow one's head and succumb.

Haha yes dude, 40k list! Fluff wise it's a little bit off... Sons of Horus being pretty much dead n all...

good shout on the drop pod, I've tried to fit that in there but i just can't seem to squeeze the points in- what would you suggest taking out?

The main thing that has proven useless for me also was the tactical terms; godamnit! I got some real nice MKIV termies as well! them alongside the chapter master come in at 430 or so points- i feel i could better spend that...

Riptdie EWO is for anti troops reserves more than flyers- I love broadsides but i don't want to blow 5-15 points on EWO which i highly doubt they'll get round to using- not many people take flyers and to be quite honest, having too much interceptor totally ruins the fun. I wish i could give him a storm shield on the Master of the forge but unless you gotta spare 50 points to lend me i'll have to pass.

I played with this list against a wave serpent spam( 6 wave serpents, 3 fire prisms) yesterday on the scouring primary, emperors will secondly and pulled out a draw - i had primary, he had secondary + both with warlord. ( we don't play first blood) It was an absolutely massacre but an awesome game!

the only difference in my list was i swapped out the sicaran, tech marine in exchange for 2 tetras and a chapter master with light sabre.
