WAAC can be about terrain too. Who set up the table? was it a mix of area and line of sight blocking or was it open to let 36"+ weaponry hit whatever they want?

Agreed, the OP tends to have weird controversial comments and threads a lot of the time. I read everything he says as rubbish since reading a few of his threads. Let a lone his replies.

I don't know it is possible. Who knows.

I have had people quit in League and get mad at me even tho there is an entry fee and prizes. When there is money involved I get ruthless. I played a Necron player and dropped 5 man purg squad out of my Land Raider to kill a Ctan w/ 1 wound left. He had 2 full squads of Nercon Warriors behind an Aegis who I knew would get murdered but I wanted that Ctan gone. I murder the Ctan and then he shoots w/ all 40 warriors at them it was something around 51 wounds. I made all 51 3+ saves. He quit right then and there. He wasn't happy.

Our league play was w/ all the current books at 1500pts. I bought a Warhound, 2 Void Shield Buildings (6 Shields), Coteaz w/ 5 Monkeys, and 1 GK Strike to split in 2 for warp quake and I might have had 1 purg squad for the pipe line I don't rem. The weakest best attitude player gets put against me. I knew what was coming. I had no other list and I wanted my league game win. I tabled him and lost not 1 single model everyone was really mad at me except that guy I beat (he really has the best attitude). People were asking how I could use that list on that poor guy. I felt bad but I don't see what I could have done differently. Not played maybe?

He even came to me next week and said he play me again he just asked that I not bring the Warhound as he had not killed a single model. He said he wanted to atleast feel like he was playing. We did play again and I bought a 30 Terminator fluff list and barely won. People backed off thank goodness.

Dark Eldar might not be the number one tournament army, but they are damn nasty in the hands of experienced players who know where to send all the flying cardboard boxes. If I lost half my models before even getting a shot off I too might be tempted to just quit the game. The fun is in having a fight, not in putting your models back in the box.

Like my mate's orks having a bad day vs my SoB on a nasty lava board (lots of dangerous terrain) - I sure didn't blame him for surrendering when I had two objectives and an almost full army when he had one objective, nothing that could move up on me and I was posed to wipe out his last surviving scoring unit.

But I didn't see the OPs game, ofc.

My area doesnt have tourneys anymore because grown men cheat and no one wants to ban or be a d-bag babysitter. Everyone is frustrated with a lack of sportsmanship even at friendly games, meta hounds with the latest list every week, and GW back to the unbalanced release game. You are on a slippery slope and could end up with a closet full of GW stuff and almost no one to play with.

Im not saying kiss his butt. But I have the decency to leave my noise marine list at home on friendly game days and small tourneys because it shuts everyone down. A friendly game is a chance to try something new. Learn about a unit in your dex that you have never played with. Try a new deathstar unit. Not to bring an undefeated list or close to it.

What it sounds like youre doing is your a game vs someone elses relax day. You sound like the type of person who would take a first time magic player and channel/fork/fireball them on the first turn.

OP I think it is possible the way you communicate might have given him a impression that you have an undesirable attitude.

In your post you talk about how you 'told' him to do things and how you 'deserve' things. Obviously forums are very hard to convey tone, and if read in a particular way this phrasing could be parsed as you being bossy and feeling over-entitled.

Note I'm not saying you have an undesirable attitude, are bossy not entitled, but I can see how your style of communication may have made your opponent feel you were, especially since he was having a rough time in the game.

Maybe try being a little less didactic and more collaborative. That said, if you were explicit in your post on the clubs forums about the type of game you were after, I'm surprised your opponent didn't expect the game he received unless it was the only game he could find. Is he new to the scene? Perhaps you could hook him up with another local chap with a more similar attitude to your opponent?

I am a moody person. I've been known to over-react to losing before. In my own defense, I'm taking medication for it now I couldn't afford even just 5 months ago. Even before that, I always made sure to wait about 15 minutes after putting my stuff in my car, to calm down, then go talk to the opponent and do/say what I can to let them know it's a me problem and not a them problem. I also usually offer to buy them a soda as our FLGS has a soda fridge. Mind you even in friendlies for the sake of friendlies, I usually do that anyway because I'm just that kind of guy I guess.

Could have been dude was having a bad day, and getting curbstomped just added to it. Didn't sound like he was saying much, just showing physical signs of being agitated. As far as "sore losers" go, him hucking his OWN minis back into his tray is pretty mild, and frankly I'm confused why that bothers YOU so much.

Rather than think "MAN WHAT A SORE LOSER, TFG", maybe show a little empathy. It'll make you a lot more resilient as a person, and likely lower your chances of running into "poor losers" again in the future.

Just trying t see from the other side of table here.

Dark Eldar Venom Spam is an army that is designed to negate what the enemy can throwback at you, nighshields plus long range plus high rate of fire makes them a very effective unit. That being said, when I tried Venom Spam, I found it quite boring due to this as while all armies CAN deal with it, you need to bring certain things otherwise you are unlikely to win. Not saying what he was doing was fair, as it depends on if this was a pick up game or an arranged game, but what I would do to change this *IF YOU WANT TO* as you should not feel responsible, Is you should get one or two FUN (YMMV) units that are not the most competitive options.

This kind of breaks up the look of Venom Spam and gives he look of a DE army with a lot of Venoms, quite a difference. IMHO FUN*(YMMV) include a Beast Pack, Incubi, Reavers, Pain Engines, BloodBrides, Big units of Wracks and Grotesqes. Now, this is me assuming this was pick up game, if this was a pre determined game then he should of known what he was facing and planned accordingly, then it's all on him.

So you have no empathy for yourself?

"I had a bad experience with a player and without providing any context whatsoever, I have the need to tell the whole internet about him so they can pity the fact I have to play against people that can get a little surly when they lose."

Not exactly the behavior of "an adult" where I'm from.

Whether it happened or not, it's a situation that crops up here fairly often. Mostly in "bad game experiences" threads.

The whole point of this game is to have fun - and, to a certain extent, see that playing against you is an enjoyable experience. Now, that usually refers to not brutally, purposefully crushing your opponent's list on a regular basis (if he's the sort of person who brings a wheelbarrow full of kittens to face off against Dark Lord Evisceratus, metaphorically speaking), but that applies to both sides of the table...if I'm winning and that makes you mad enough to sling your models around like bouncy balls, that's not going to be fun for either of us, especially when you calm down and realize how many limbs you have to glue back on. It's poor sportsmanship, really. I can understand not wanting to play on if you're clearly outmatched, I guess, but not the impulse to destroy something you've put hours of work into just because of a few bad rolls. Losing gracefully is part of playing games.

...as is threatening mass executions of dice or particularly useless models, of course. I saw a picture somewhere of somebody who had lined his dice up in front of a Guardsman firing squad, as they had consistently betrayed his cause and were considered in league with the foul xenos. Got a few good chuckles out of that.

I was asking others how they'd deal with this specific individual. Ststarting conversation with a community regarding real life experiences something an adult would do. Jumping to incorrect conclusions about someone's intention, as you are doing, is childish.

So, only your own perspective matters?

Also not something "an adult" would think.

Refusing to even attempt to apply empathy to someone because you believe they are behaving childishly is just asking to have the situation repeat itself again in the future. What if the guy got in an argument with his wife/girlfriend before coming down to the store? What if their grandmother was recently diagnosed with a terminal illness? Or what if he simply was on a losing streak and was beginning to question why he even participated in the hobby to begin with? What if you give off vibes of superiority that comes across as taunting during the game? What if the dude has a clinically diagnosed condition that makes it difficult for him to control his emotions and he forgot his medication that morning?

Any of those situations might explain what was up that particular day, or a million other things. You seem like the cold calculating type, so I'll say this: Empathy is more for the benefit of the person employing it than the person you're even thinking about. You trying to understand him will benefit you more than it will that person.

Bad things happen to people all the time. He should man up and deal with it. If something that serious happened, he wouldn't be at the flgs. The fact of the matter is, he was a crappy loser and needs to grow up.

Wow. I can not comprehend how rude this is against him. "Oh, you just broke up? Deal with it!" "Oh, you just found out someone from your family is terribly ill? Man up, loser!"

Maybe you need to grow up. You're being terribly rude and refuse to see something from the point of view from somebody else.

How you're speaking about him isn't very kind, nor a sign of "being a good winner" (unless you're talking about "good" as in "I'm really good at this game!!1")

25 shots per venom and my opponent is just picking his models up off the table when they die, and hucking them into the box in which he transports them

Which, by the way, doesn't seem like bad behaviour, now. SHould he start cheering because he can do nothing with his little toy soldiers?

See daly, some people dont have fun getting tabled hard. I have no problem with this. What I do have a problem with is facing people who WIN and still whine/complain the whole game and then start throwing (yes that's right throwing) his models when they die. All of this happened to me, and ill never play against him again unless i have to (tournament)

You ENTIRELY miss the point of empathy if you ever think you can gloss over anything the other person might be experiencing.

Real life story time: After the last girl I was involved with proved herself to be the liar that she was, I went down to my FLGS on the wargaming night that week. I found out she was a sociopathic-sized liar about 4 days prior and so I wasn't quite over the shock yet but I was also still pretty bummed. The game I played that week was against Dark Eldar venom spam. Mind you, I was still pretty new to the game, about 6 months tops and I never read about online strategies or anything. I just got the models I thought were cool and fielded the best army with them I could.

I had maybe 3 models left on the field by turn 3. So, I was pretty upset and was not having a very good day. The guy I played with was one of my best friends, though, and knew what had gone on with me earlier in the week. It was his idea we just call the game because he could tell I was getting perturbed. So we did, packed up stuff, and still had a pleasant rest of the afternoon just hanging out at the FLGS chatting with other players. I shouldn't have been playing that night, and luckily my friend had the empathy to read my mood enough to help me see that to salvage the afternoon.

I'm still not proud of how angry I was over what comes down to just a game, but I'm not going to flog myself for it.

Here's good advice for every aspect of life:
Don't expect people in a poor state of mind to make good decisions.

I find it a bit more telling that the OP responds to anything saying he was wrong with immediate defense of his behavior and attacking the other person's behavior.

Speaking as an internet troll (on other forums of course ) that's classic troll behavior - post something controversial and then immediately attack anyone claiming that you're wrong.
