CCG =/= LCG

Their business models are different.

Yes the business model is different, but your overall description of the model was inaccurate.

It's not the same to quote yourself. It's regular packs not odd expansions over time.

You gave the impression that an expansion was released on an occasional / irregular basis.

CCG = Large sets with boosters that have random cards form the set in them. In order to get the cards you want, you have to buy 1+N number of boosters to get what you want. N could be zero, it could be 50. Sites exist so you can direct buy cards rather than open random boosters, but the manufacture still sells more than 1 pack per person, typically 480 packs for 4 copies of a chase mythic rare in MtG's case. This doesn't mean the other 476 packs are worthless, but it shows the business model. Cost for MtG is $1920 MSRP. These sets roll out about every quarter.

LCG = A fixed set of cards that has the same contents for each pack. For players to get the cards they need to purchase one pack of cards unless for some reason, they want more than the supplied copies. The per card price is similar to CCGs, putting a pack at $16, for 60 cards. These roll out monthly, meaning the bar keeps moving each month. For player vs. deck LCGs like LotR, this a nice mechanic. For player vs. player, this means each month a new expansion needs to be purchased.

For this specific project, I'm torn as I don't want GW to get anymore of my money, but if FF were to be paying a fixed cost for the license, I may consider buying it. All of this of course to depends on the game being any good.

Now, I've never even LOOKED at a CCG, nor LCGs...
so I'm coming into this completely uninformed.

Quick Question: at the FFG site, it refers to something odd -
"FF Suppply [5] [1]", with the 5 in Silver, while the 1 is in yellow?
What would that mean?

Relatedly, does is seem to indicate that it's 39.95 for a set of six 'beginning box' sets?

I've never been big on card games but I was interested in this until I saw the monthly buy-in needed to potentially play catch up. Assuming this follows the netrunner datapack trend of 20 new cards every month, I don't know if those 20 individual cards (three copies of each) you get monthly will be split along *ALL* the factions. If you're a taudar player, will you only get around 6 individual cards you can actually use then?

As someone who was involved with Netrunner, they do the same thing with the same amount of factions. A single card in a set can suddenly change the meta, or make a card that was useless before suddenly worthwhile or even dominant, or even introduce new decks or play styles into the game. That's a benefit of the LCG pack system - you don't have to hunt down those cards, they're provided in a manner that gives you all the copes of the card you need. And the 'catch-up' isn't a problem, since the packs are so disseminated by the community that it's easy to pick and choose what packs you need to construct your deck.

The only problem I might see is introducing the concept of buying 2-3 copies of the core set to get max copes of all the cards for deck construction.

FF Supply is their card sleeves.

Silver are Standard sized card sleeves.
Yellow is actually their American small card sized sleeves.

Which is interesting. Small cards?

BTW does anyone know what exactly will happen to their Warhammer Invasion game? Will it be completely discontinued with no reprints or just no new sets?

That is another wrinkle I didn't consider. Was it a recommended practice in Netrunner to do so to get good use out of a faction?

That was the inital issue with Warhammer: Invasion. I had to buy 3 boxed sets to get what I needed, and was the same for the first few expansions.

I think now you can just buy the expansion and it has the cards you need in it.

That's my hope at least as I really do like Invasion, but lost interest as my group changed.

I'll be watching for this one.

1 copy for casual play. 2 copes for semi-competitive, 3 for full competitive.

However, the Netrunner core has neutral cards in it that are still basically necessary for a deck to run, so if you wanted to have more than 1 Runner and 1 Corp deck at a time, extra cores are needed. Alternatively, you can sell of extraneous cards from sets for some cash back, or even by other people's cards that they split from cores to fill out your own collection.

I think they're just not creating any new cards, but I'm sure with no new sets, interest will wane, and they'll stop printing current stuff too.

Hi, newbie here.

I am hoping that they will make each pack faction-specific. I doubt this will happen, as the only examples we can go on are Netrunner and Game of Thrones. AGOT has the most factions, so it's probably a closer comparison, and that game does packs with cards for each faction and big boxes dedicated to a particular faction. So far, it's all speculation.

I'm waiting to see a Nid group too. I'd be surprised if they skipped it, given they can recycle card art from Relic. I suspect it isnt in this box because they want to play up the allies "chart" and the Nids won't be on that. I expect they'll get their own mini, $30, expansion in the future. Other than that, I think this looks great.

Yes, GW even formed a subdivision called Sabertooth Games for it and produced 3 more or less unsuccessfull games:

The multiplayer rules will most likely come as a separate deluxe expansion like with the SW LCG. They most likely want to ramp up the game with two player base set and several of the smaller expansions before that though.
