I am liking this, and happy to get in the Early Access to play around and make the suggestions, as long as the price isnt too high.

I loved the peg leg on the Warlock and am really looking forward to the customization that they claim is available.

The early accsess stings, I hope they are not doing the same thing with Blood Bowl II. The gameplay video gives some insight altough it is narrated with no passion. So far it seems to take some X-Com and Mordheim elements.
The biggest question will be if they get the balancing right espacially after some leveling up and dying did happen.

It's funny, but I never gave a damn about Mordheim back in my GW days because I was perfectly happy with Necromunda and Warhammer Quest. But seeing that trailer, I really want to track down some the the terrain and models to give Coreheim a try.

While I would recommend anyone who's not before try out Mordheim, it being one of the best games and most entertaining settings GW have done, I'd advise against Coreheim. If it's more your thing, fair enough, but for my money it removes a lot of the flavour from the game to solve some of the balance issues but causes new issues of its own; you're better using the standard Mordheim system with a couple of house rules(I've become a big fan of; shields negate an enemy's extra attack from dual-wielding, negative modifiers to armour from strength start at STR5 rather than STR4, and reduce the price of all armour except shields and helmets by 1/3 - solves a LOT of issues) and a gentleman's agreement regarding the couple of genuinely broken warbands/builds.

Don't see the issue for people who want to get in on the Early Access.

Cons
Yep, it is not a completed game yet.
You are the one of the people who has to report bugs and request fixes.

Pros
You get to play it earlier
You get a 20% discount on the game
You can potentially shape the way certain aspects reach the final build.

If you don't like that the Cons outweigh the Pros in your mind, wait till it is completed before buying it/looking at buying it.

This isn't a surprise shock on a day of release that the game isn't complete and bug free (like current reports of another popular game out recently) It is a clear and open expectation, but that is my point of view anyway.

The problem with early access is the same problem with free to play as a payment model; in principle there's nothing wrong with them, but in practice they get abused so often by corporations or just scumbags conning people that a lot of folk lose trust and will turn away from games that use them.

This is looking so great. It will be a definite purchase. It also fills me with so much hope for Necromunda.

Thats cool. If you have been burnt or think it is likely, wait for it to be finally released. No different from the situation that a lot of kickstarter projects find themselves in and looks like it can garner enough peeps who are still into it.

@PhantomViper - Yeah, looking like November some time. Starting with 2 preset warbands (Human Merc and Skaven) and then expanding from there.

I played a skirmish to test the waters, and I'm happy with my purchase.

They nailed the setting and the feel of it. It really looks like a world that was semi crazy even before the comet hit, and the after effect of the comet is amazing looking. Just playing one skirmish makes me want to paint up or create some terrain.

The characters look amazing as well, gritty and realistic looking but staying true to the Warhammer world.

Load times were particularly long, but not a big deal, as I understand its not a finished product, and may well have been because I had graphics as high as it could get.

Combat is definitely not a direct port over, like Blood Bowl and Space Hulk were to some extent, but close enough to the original that I knew what to do. Didn't feel lost or not understand what I was supposed to do. It looks like there is some depth to the combat, but still easily accessible and fast.

This game will be amazing if they can keep it up. I'm hesitant to recommend it, because its early access and the wheels could fall off, but as a Warhammer/Mordheim fan, as well as turnbased combat games, it was a must buy for me.

I played a skirmish before work too.

This is what I found.

Good Things

Orb Representation – You have 4 Blue orbs for Movement based stuff. These include movement, climbing, jumping and “Delay” style actions. You also get 4 Red orbs for attacking, reloading, disengaging, fleeing and getting into “Stances”.

Stances – These are all guesswork here. If you have a shield, you can go into a “Parry Stance” which lets you have a chance of blocking the first hit, “Dodge Stance” allows a non-shielded person to do this, but I think it is at a greater chance of failing. “Overwatch Stance” lets you overwatch with a ranged weapon and “Ambush Stance” lets you overwatch with a melee weapon. Looks like a good way to protect important or squishy characters from getting vigorously face-loved.

Viewing of the enemy – you can only see enemy moves when you can actually see them. So you kinda hover behind a character until one of your peeps sees the enemy and then you cut to them seeing the baddies. Means you have to be tactical about where you put people and means you want to post a couple of people facing the directions you expect baddies to turn up.

Looks pretty – looks nice to me. It isn’t any super realistic imagery but I like it.

Bad Things

Preset lists – It is expected but it means I don’t currently know what certain characters have for weapons. This means the “Switch Weapons” option can be risky. Oh I am too far away to stab that guy with my giant sword, I will try to shoot him with a bow and arrow – Switch Weapon – Oh, I seem to have a spear and shield now… I am sure this will improve when I get to know the presets but for now I am looking at ways to see what weapons I am switching to.

Lack of customisation/progression – This is an expected and accepted part but also the part I think is going to be the most fun when it comes out proper.

Windowed Mode – This is more than likely my fault for not looking at the start up screen options but windowed mode is pretty tricky with the controls.

Things I would like to see improved on for Beta/Final.

Representation of what weapons the characters can switch to - Not knowing what a character has in their hammerspace backpack is a bit tricky, i thought i was moving from a long sword to a bow and arrow but instead the character switched to his alt set up of spear and shield...which didn't let me shoot at the skaven across the divide.

Vain, you can get to see the alternate weapons by pressing left shift, it'll also show you the stats for you current unit.
Check out the screen shot below to see the stats for a possessed brethren and what alternate weapons he has.
This also tells you which units are heros and which are henchmen, as well as any buffs/ debuffs from spells, traps etc

It's a great game! It's come a long way. My Skaven guys are starting to look really badass and I've only played it a little bit. I would advise anyone to stay away from the Brutal rated missions though lol. It's like playing Dark Souls on those. You WILL die haha.

For the moment, this is just on Steam. Couldn't tell you if it's headed to consoles or not. The game does allow for gamepad use so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to put it on consoles.
