A new Twitter account from Focus Home Interactive promises a turn-based tactical combat game based on Games Workshop's Mordheim board game. Expect a more detailed reveal soon.
The account was set up today, and there's been only one post so far urging follower invitations and hinting at further updates soon.
Mordheim: City of the Damned was a 1999 board game set in the Warhammer Fantasy universe that pitted players against each other in small skirmish groups. It had customization in the vein of classic Warhammer, with players choosing their unit composition and upgrading their gear and skills over time.
Could this be the XCOM style turn-based experience that Warhammer fans have been waiting for? We'll have to wait and see...

The sheer potential here is incredible (as is with most Warhammer IP games I guess), is there a scrap of info on the development team? I'm praying to the dark gods that it's someone with a bit of an established reputation and not another mobile developer.
Anyone else think the visuals look as though they could be based off of the unity engine? Not necessarily a bad thing but it doesn't quell my fear!

MORDHEIM: CITY OF THE DAMNED UNVEILED WITH SCREENSHOTS
Focus Home Interactive and Rogue Factor today proudly unveil the first video game adaptation of Games Workshop's cult classic Mordheim. Set in the Warhammer world's decimated Empire city, Mordheim: City of the Damned is a turn-based tactical game where you lead warbands into bloody and lethal skirmishes. The game blends RPG elements, fast-paced tactical combat and intricate unit customization in a time wrought by chaos and rivalry where only the strongest survive.
After the Comet of Sigmar crashed on Mordheim, the City of Damned turned into a terrifying battlefield where rival warbands fight fiercely for the control of key neighborhoods, looking for glory and fortune by acquiring the very valuable Wyrdstone fragments.
Pick your warbands from iconic Mordheim factions - Sisters of Sigmar, Possessed, Skaven, Mercenaries from the Empire, and many more - and lead your troops to battle. Recruit new units, equip them with enhanced gear. Evolve and customize your warband with the experience gained from each successful mission, transforming them into a terrifying force on the battlefield.
Devise the best strategy to annihilate your rivals. If you fail, some of your units might lose a limb... or worse. Keep in mind that in Mordheim: City of the Damned, a dead unit is lost forever! Consider the environment when formulating your battle strategy, exploiting the unique buildings, ruins or the layout of the streets. Deploy your troops carefully and anticipate the actions of your adversaries to set up ambushes! Organize ingenious battle plans where the talents of your units will be as important as your own luck during key moments of combat.
Loot items and weapons hidden in the ruins, or steal those of fallen opponents. Survive the dangers that abound in the City of the Damned and collect as many Wyrdstones as you can, but remain ever vigilant. Mordheim is one of the most treacherous places in the Warhammer world!
In these epic battles where fame and glory await, your strategy will definitely be your best ally! Visit the four corners of the City of the Damned to complete multiple missions in the solo campaign, or challenge other players in enthralling multiplayer modes.
Riches and infamy await you late 2014 in Mordheim: City of the Damned!

Hopefully this will be good, Mordheim is my favorite GW product. 3 things this game should have:
1: A campaign system. It just won't be Mordheim unless you can level up your guys, roll for injuries and keep the same warband between scenarios.
2: Multiplayer. Head to head, possibly even allowing you to set up a persistent campaign among a group of people.
3: Customization. In my opinion, the best part of any tabletop game. Let me adjust the heads, clothes and colors for each of my heroes, so they don't all look the same.
Edit: Ninja'd. And it sounds like at least 2 of my wishes are coming true!

Obviously this is exciting, I hope we can try and manage our own expectations a bit though - FHI's track record is spotty at best - even the gems (Wargame is good) aren't without flaws and a lot of their output is pretty bad.
Still, good news! Mordheim's a far more compelling setting than Blood Bowl or Space Hulk, imo. Also brings us one step closer to the Necromunda game everybody wants, in my mind at least

I'll be watching this pretty closely! I can't see who the developer is, but the publisher also handled Blood Bowl and will be handling the upcoming Space Hulk game by Cyanide. It makes me wonder if Focus Home Interactive might be the home of GW products for a while, and if we'll get a Necromunda game in a similar vein.

Perhaps. Rogue (the developers of Mordheim) might make Necromunda next. It would be the next logical step.
I still want to see a Mass Battle 40k game. Being able to control squadrons of titans and legions of infantry would be pretty sweet.

Hopefully the shotgun approach that GW has taken with its IP recently may result in a couple of good games. Maybe.
Its a good setting to chose and apparently it is being developed along the lines of a squad based strategy game so there is some hope that it wont be a turd. There is still time for this to turn into a F2P MOBA though.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

Actually, it is great news. I love Mordheim. The campaign games get unbalanced pretty darn quick but you can home brew some rules to even things out a bit. There is just so much room for creativity.

I wouldn't trust metacritic reviews as they are far too unselective. Focus have published some very poor games but they have also published some very good ones (the Wargame series in particular).

I know it can't ever match the feeling of the real game (nothing can), but this is very intriguing. It will be interesting to see how the campaign system is managed, and whether you will be able to play multi-player campaigns with your friends.

Yeah I seriously hope they don't use GW's rules..Nostalgia is cool and all, but mordheim was a pretty terrible game for a lot of reasons (mostly cause no one cared enough to playtest and update the rules).
Cool idea, as usual tho.. bad execution (mordheim campaign was more poorly designed than necromunda which is saying a lot..)
These guys are also the publishers of the blood bowl game so could be good.. but as others have said, they're just a publisher.
