Mine is the Plasma Cannon. Love the combination of (relatively) high strength, low AP and blast profile, combined with decent range.

My favorite in general is the heavy bolter, because come on, just look at him:

He's going to mess you up. With bullets.

As for which I like otherwise, I'd say the multimelta. Marines are the only army that can properly spam this weapon, and they're like lascannons which, other than multimeltas, are the only serious heavy weapon. Plus, they seem to fit space marines a little better, what with their mobility and medium-range killing power in general.

Fluff: The Heavy Bolter. Even the name sounds awesome. This gun not only fires little rockets but it fires them fast. This thing will ruin your day.

Game: The Plasma Cannon. Good strength, good AP and with a small blast. A spiffy and flexible weapon to be sure.

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Rated!

- Heavy Bolter. It's a bolter. A HEAVY bolter. Weapons don't get more macho than this. 8/10

- Plasma Cannon. I use it often because Dark Angels, but for some reason I seem unable to kill something of worth with my PC-armed squaddies. They either miss the mark by a kilometer and half or overheat, killing or maiming the wielder in the process. 3/10

- Lascannon. While a solid beam of coalescent light sure is effective at killing things, it's not as stylish as drowning them in a deluge of rocket-propelled bullets the size of a fist or burning them to cinders with the power of the atom. Still gets bonus points for sci-fi. 8/10

- Multimelta. Burning radioactive DEATH for boys, girls and tanks alike. Best served in drop pods, that are the most marine-y things after power armor and homoeroticism. 9/10

- Assault Cannon. While a big gattling gun with the potential to turn living targets to confetti is always nice, the fact that only termies and vehicles can take it is a deal breaker. 6/10

- Cyclone Missile Launcher. You other armies may think that a weapon system that turns you into a walking MRLS is a bit dumb, but to us marines this is the epitome of cool. You just have to be careful not to tip forward lest you want to become a terrain feature, and forget about traversing doors and narrow corridors. But other than that it's fine, really. 7/10

- Flamestorm Cannon. Never trust a Heavy Flamer you can't lift. 3/10.

I do have a strange love for the heavy bolter. It targets the same units the bolter shoots at, and it looks awesome.

Although seeing as I play Spiky Marines, I'll just have 2 plasma guns, because everything is better when your weapons might eat you.

Heavy Bolters win on cool factor. And since I don't really play the game all that often, that's about the only factor that matters to me.

I agree the Heavy Bolter is really cool. It is also the one heavy weapon that perfectly compliments a bolter wielding squad. I just wish it were 5 points.

Missile launcher. For the fluff. Though Heavy Bolter wins hands down on all levels as mentioned above.

I will always enjoy the heavy bolter and refuse to play a game without fielding at least one. I wish they were 8pts each for everyone, not just scouts
Their is also a place in my heart for the heavy flamer. It baffles me that gw hasn't come out with one for tactical marines to wield in a two handed fashion. I would love to see that. Anyone who has played space hulk will agree that of all the heavy weapons terminators can wield its simply the Heavy flamer is the one you will refuse to do without.

That's because ignores cover is $$. The other terminator heavy weapons suck, imo.

That, sir, is beautiful

How about the heavy weapons left out of the poll, like the aforementioned missile launchers, heavy flamers or the humble autocannon? I happen to love autocannons...

The heavy bolter is so mediocre in-game, but by gum does it look incredibly cool. I'd have to vote for it or the assault cannon.

There's also something extremely satisfying about completely vaporizing enemy infantry and light tanks alike from range, insta-killing enemy ICs and punching holes into tougher enemy vehicles that I like about the Lascannon. You can never have enough of these.

Wow. I picked Heavy Bolter before reading any of this, thinking I would be the only one.

I know not a vehicle killer, but as far as squads go, I have good luck with them, oh and they are bad assed.

I'm gonna have to go with the Plasma Cannon, solely based on its coolness. I mean, it's big, it glows, and it explodes, what more could you want from a weapon???

What do you call a lasgun with a laser sight? Twin-linked.

It's either Heavy Bolter, Assault Cannon, or Cyclone Missile Launcher. Voted launcher, though

Gotta go with the heavy bolter. I think they are fine for tactical squads that are always on the move. If you find your self camping on an object or in cover, its nice to have the extra heavy bolter shots, and if you are on the move its no big loss because its so cheap. And the heavy bolter likes to shoot at the same things as bolters, plasma gun, or flame thrower.

For devastators though, the heavy bolter just doesn't do enough. I feel like the heavy bolter should cost just as much as a plasma cannon or lascannon, but have more shots. Just anything to make it deadly versus hordes.

Shhh, those are just unimportant details! I mean, somebody dies in a pretty explosion of light, does it really matter who it is in the end?
