pretty simple questions: - if there is a simaler thread already please point me in the right direction.
in regards to transformation of kadon, i relaize most of the beastoes have pretty close models now available. but what about the big fire dragon?
mainly, whats the proper base size for it? would the DE black dragon be an acceptable model choice?
also, if the character is in a unit when he transforms, after said transformation can he leave the unit, or must he stay put?
finally, i give my character an earthing rod. i cast transformation at the max dfficulty. he miscasts. can i use the earthing rod to reroll the miscast result?

1) Whatever base size you think is appropriate really. I certainly wouldn't go any smaller than the Black Dragon. I might even be inclined to use the huge sized base(Arachnarok/Stonehorn)
2) Pretty sure he can still leave, but can't come back while he remains transformed. Transformation just stipulates that he doesn't have to leave.
3) It looks like technically you couldn't because your equipment doesn't work while transformed, and the spell is fully resolved before you take the miscast.

Why bother with this spell? It's the worst spell in the entire game. Opponent waits for his magic phase, spends all his dice to dispell it, kills your mage with 3 zombies/skeletons/gnoblars/snotlings/skavenslaves etc.

Casting it on a naked hero is a good exchange. It doesn't have to be a 23894 point lord who uses it. And since he doesn't have to leave his unit, it could be that he was already in close combat. Or even 1 round of having an extra monster in a unit might be enough to break them and run them down.
And then there's the point that special rules still work while transformed. That means High Elves are ASF and Khairos has a 4+ ward and (until they redo the FAQ) Slann can be Ethereal with a 4+ ward, etc.

Bonus points if you use Bretonnia and transform into this.

Slann Can't transform (he specifically isn't on foot), and IIRC, neither is Tehenhuien, unless you take him on a steggadon, and then lose the steggadon.
But a vampire (forbidden lore) could still be +2 WS, ASF or even Red Fury. Now that, I call a "Blood Dragon".
Now, debate if wounds from a breathe weapon gives the vampire lord more attacks.
It would be funny if the slann could transform, because he'd still be in the second rank of temple guard, and only get 1 supporting attack, despite being a giant monster.

Didn't think about the Slann booties. That's probably right.
My favorite is still Khairos. You keep it in his back pocket for when people go LOL, let's kill the giant wuss wizard. And he turns into a mountain chimera with a 4+ ward that rerolls 1s.

My last game with lizards at 1000 pts. Rolled 1 and 6 for spells. So took kadon and wyssans. First turn, threw 6 dice at kadons boosted version. Miscast, nuked off my magic levels. Then proceeded to burn a chaos warrior unit for 7 wounds. It then got dispelled leaving my naked skink priest alone and without magic levels. He then fought a lone hell strider in cc - did ok but died in the 3rd round of the fight.
Still... Was REALLY amusing. The other time I used it with my ogres, got it off.... Bt the miscast was a 3, followed by a 2. So butcher goes hurrrr durrrrr ima dragon mothaeffer! Then "Slurrrrp" sucked into the warp. Got a pretty good laugh out of that one. Lol.

Skink priest make it look pretty good. You're fast enough to get out on a flank, and once transformed, you use the breathe weapon.
300 points gets you 3 level 2's, which means you will get transformation (along with the rest of the lore).

played another 1000 pt game today, my lizzies vrs vampires. my priest rolled up kadon and wyssans again... ad on his second turn (1st turn i only had 3 dice wich i used on my solar engine to fry his wraiths) i got off the boosted version of kadon... without miscasting, and spent the rest of the game kicking ass. i torched 7 gravegaurd with the breath wep, then charged and helped my saurus wipe out a unit of skeles with an included necro. - dealing 10 total wounds, at wich point he called game due to imminent crumbles.
- so just pointing out each time ive used it, ive not only had a great time with it, but it seems to be pretty effective.

Why did he not dispel it in his phase?
It only takes the basic level to dispel a boosted RiP spell.

i thought you had to meet the casting value - so if the spell was boosted and cast at D:20 he had to make 20 on his dispel attempt to get rid of it.
in either case his winds rolls were pretty bad, and he spent most of if not all his dice on making his units bigger, moving them around and trying to nerf me.
edit: nvm checked the FAQ and i was wrong. he just has to meet the normal minimum casting for that spell, so in kadons case, a 16.

even then, dispelling a "16" with a level 4 would still take 4 dice from the power pool, 3 if they are feeling brave (Im not considering the TK/High Magic spells to end RIP spells), whihc, given an average roll of 7 on the PD, is a substantial chunk of magic they wont be casting at me...
As said above, good on a lvl2 costing ~100pts, not so great on your level 4...

Sometimes you dont want to dispel it, while the opponent has his monster he doesnt have his level 4.
If its a level 2 dispel away.

You gain the monster unit type therefore you leave the unit automatically. Remember Transformation is a remains in play spell. My opponent transformed his Teclis into a Chiamera. I charged it with my saurus block. Come the magic phase i dumped my pool into dispeling transformation turning him back into teclis and then slaughtered him in cc

This is not correct.
You stay in the unit. But if you leave you cannot rejoin.
