Had one of these drive down my street last week. It was cool. The buggers are huge. Never realised how big they were.
What made it comical was the oversized cardboard (joke) "L" plate on the rear, alongside the rear "driver under instruction" placard that matched the one on the front.
Funny how both Bushmasters pictured have identical paint jobs.

Oh man, why has noone mentioned the Humber Pig yet? It's kinda obvious that GW based the Taurox off a BRITISH armoured truck, right?
It's a 1950 armoured fast response truck used by brits, according to wikipedia they were also used against IRA in northern Ireland.
And that's why all half-track conversions will look mediocre at best - the original vehicle had just 4 wheels and that's what people should be doing if they hate the snow tracks as a half track usually was much longer for the rear tracks to actually be effective.
I like the Taurox.
Ok, I'll grant that the side mounted autocannons are in a silly place, but that's an assembly issue that's easily fixed.

Not that funny, BOTH of them ARE aussie vehicles. We tend to have ONE camo scheme for vehicles - and we don't have that many armoured vehicles (compared to the USA - or even Britain) overall.

I thought it was pronounced "Tar-rox". Still a dumb name either way.

I don't have anything wrong with the Taurox. I wish it was a bit cheaper though, it's about the same price as a Leman Russ!
Its like a Razorback costs almost the same as a Landraider. I'm not an IG player. So I don't care too much.

the Taurox Prime after kit can legitimately cost almost as much as some Russ variants now.

It looks like a tractor, in fact I've seen tractors that look more sci-fi.
I'm hoping that in the distant future that they aren't looking at early 20th century snowcat (look at the London science museum ) for troop transport.
This is the straw that breaks the camels back, I hope that this marks the final phase of GW bullsh**t munching money grabbing and either they go bust so we can get on or so one slaps them and they it it out.
Rant over....
(1) 40k isn't sci if. It's fantasy in spaaaace.
(2) rhinos etc are based in an stc fir tractors already.
(3) early 20th century is a look that gw wanted for the guard. I take it you don't like chimeras or leman russes either...
Pretty sure it wasn't even lowly Magos, it was a pack of Technomats, the guys who are given the sacred duty of polishing the brass fittings around gauges and such, who decided to try their hand at actually being a member of the Machine Cult.
Of course, when a million of these rolled off the assembly line, the Tech-Priest fixed his ocular implants on them and voxed "This is why you cannot have nice things."

I saw a Taurox in person last night for the first time, and I literally laughed out loud at how tiny it is. I was expecting rhino sized. It's the same size as a speeder. It's a damned scion clown car.
Just pick your favorite vehicle, add some eagles, throw in an autocannon or two and bam. A better looking Taurox.
Or just convert a Rhino/Chimera.

It's hilarious that they make it hold 10 infantry. That makes a lot of sense.

40k vehicle have always been on a smaller scale than the rest of the models. I mean can you fit 10 Marines inside of a Rhino?

You could in theory. Space Marines have organs of unimaginable flexibility. I'm pretty sure they have a Houdini Spine that allows them to contort 10 marines plus driver and gunner inside a rhino and still have the ability to lounge around reading the latest White Dwarf Visions.

Have you seen the image I linked earlier? The Humber Pig that Taurox was based on? It doesn't deviate far from the original when it comes to size. Hell, it's even bigger, and that thing held 8 soldiers and 2 drivers.
I mean.. this thing holds 10 people inside:
It's not as unrealistic as some of you want to make it look.
Given GW's predilection for WW2 and WW1 when it comes to the guard.
This appear to be what the Taurox is based off of.
Either way the model is an abominable piece of crap which should never have made it out of a concept piece. How GW thought it fitted in with either the army aesthetic or the universe aesthetic is beyond me.

I am still fairly sure that it was designed after the Humber Pig. The photo I provided proves that it's almost identical design(barring the snow treads instead of wheels and raised roof), just with some 40kness slapped on. And Humber Pig was a british armoured truck, so.. yeah.

Personally loved the Taurox from the very beginning but for a reason noone has ever mentioned, I think.. Taurox is the closest we can get to civillian vehicles in the whole history of 40k aside from that unique armoured tank-train model from not so long ago. I'll love them on display boards, as parts of terrain and dioramas or as wrecks.
In the whole history of 40k?
You'd be wrong about that.
Very wrong.
Even if we're only talking models you'd be wrong.
There's an Imperial Aquila shuttlecraft which is used by pretty much the entire Imperium.
There's also the leman russ which was notably based off of a tractor stc unit.
There are also dozens of civilian vehicles mentioned in the fluff.
Frankly it still looks like gak even then. If it has tires it might look less crap but then it decided to have guns like a fighter plane. That model is arguably one of GW's worst including the razorgor... At least a decent paintjob made that look passable.

You've got a point at the Aquila Shuttle, but Leman Russ is a bit of a miss given the fact that the design was refurbished into a tank.
So the Taurox and Aquila stand as the only civilian-ish(Aquila is a Navy shuttle) imperial vehicle models available. I know other vehicles were mentioned, I'm talking about models, though.
Especially if you assemble the Taurox with regular top hatch that comes with the set instead of the turret and no guns in that ridiculous spot(sides) and replace the treads with wheels and it'll look like a heavily 40kified semi-civillian truck. And that's with almost no conversions as the track boxes are separated and you can just glue random suitable wheels in their place.
With some additional converting like removing hatch top hatch, making the windows bigger and replacing the back hatch with some more regular cargo door you could have a purely civillian, heavy duty cargo truck.

Replacing the treads removes a lot of the models ugly design.
Though even then it's still a bit off...

I think there was a real missed opportunity to make the Taurox and Prime open-topped by default. There was even a photo of one without the crew-cover in white dwarf, and it looked pretty cool, like an M3 halftrack.
If it was open-topped, it would be a bit more fragile, but at least it would have an actual battlefield role. A light assault APC that you can fill with shooty veterans, scions, or punchy ogryns/bulgryns.
As of now, I don't really understand the point of the thing, in comparison to the chimera.
