So I have been thinking about getting a model just to sit on a self and look cool. I don't want a 40k model, but something large enough to be noticed and be a fun modeling/painting project. I need something I will need to assemble, but coming pre-painted doesn't matter, I'll just Re-paint it anyway. Any ideas?

Try looking in to Knight Models, especially if you are into Marvel or DC comics. They have a ton of 72mm sculpts of most of the major players from the Marvel and DC universe. They also have Lord of Rings characters and at one time I think they had Star Wars models.

They are a European company (from Spain I believe) so they can be somewhat difficult to track down in the US. I managed to find a eBay store that offered a bunch of their models but I don't remember what it was called. They are a little pricey but totally worth it. I picked up this 72mm Wolverine model for about $60:

I am thinking of going with a Zaku from gundam. Never watched it, but the model looks pretty cool and could be fun to re-model and re-paint.

You could stick with GW and go down the fantasy or hobbit routes. Some fantastic fantasy models (Pardon the pun) out there.

For the Lion and Terra!

Because nothing in the galaxy is black and white, Mankind views the Space Marines as a last resort. The last line. When all else fails. They take up the burden. The noble defenders of Mankind. The last hope.

Have you considered looking into some non-gaming models, the likes of Airfix/Hasegawa/Revell ect? There's simply a huge range of model kits out there, from tanks to cars and planes to trains, so I'm sure you'll find something if you look into it. They're also often a bit cheaper than most GW-or-equivalent kits for the size, even for the good-quality ones, and will look great painted up to a good standard.

Tons of cool models, and if you get one of the "fine scale" (google it) kits, they have tons of details.

Fine Molds is the name of the company that makes the wonderful Star Wars kits (the also make military kits as well).

I have the 1/144 scale Millennium Falcon and it's a wonderful kit, especially for being as small as it is. Be warned, it does take quite a bit work to make it better resemble the studio model though.
