So, I've got the new IG/AM book and have been looking at the benefits of running allies featuring a tank commander HQ. My eye was immediately drawn to Pask due to the additional buffs he provides tanks. However, there are a few issues running Pask as the allied tank commander:

- He is a 40 point upgrade, meaning he is a minimum of 70 points above the cost of the min. two Russes you'll have to take.
- As an ally, he loses his Warlord Trait, meaning no Preferred Enemy.

So, speaking specifically from an allies perspective, here's what I'd like to discuss:

Is Pask worth it in the allies slot even without his warlord trait?

If so, what are the best tank options to run him with?

If a standard Tank Commander is more worth it, what are the best options to run with them?

My initial thought it that it is still worth it to run with Pask. I'd place him in a Punisher with HB sponsons. The other tank in his unit would be either another punisher or perhaps a demolisher.

Probably work

Potentially relevant to the discussion of Pask in general:

Yeh, I saw those. Both seem to talk about using Pask in a primary force, but do not detail discussion on allied loadouts/his worth in an allied list vs. a standard tank commander.

Thanks though, I'll read through those some more and see what I can see.

Honestly the only reason to use Pask as an allied detachment is to be able to bring a large amount of tanks and get around the Allies force org limitations. It's not gonna be a game breaking choice for any other army, most likely just a fun addition.

Pask Vanq. w/ attached Vanq. as HQ
Cheap Troops choice
2 Russes of choice in a squadron
Primaris Psyker to hang out with them

Something like this would be fun to bring with an Ork army for some long ranged anti-tank which they lack, and combined with battlewagons makes for some serious AV14 spam.

Hmm, I was thinking they might be a bit more vicious than that. I was thinking more along the lines of

Pask Punisher
Demolisher

Vet Squad

Vendetta

IG Allies can be incredibly badass now mostly because you can bring up to 6 Russes in an allied detachment.

I'm thinking something like:

Typhus, 2 x 35 Plague Zombies, 2 Heldrakes, 2 HQ Russes, 2 Heavy Support Russes, min squad of vets, and a ML1 Psyker. Comes in at 1750 and is actually fairly balanced!

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

Now that's more like it!

What would your HQ Russ variants be?

I've tried ig allied detachment with Pask with orkses yesterday. They were pretty good.

Punisher (MM sponsons, lazcannon, dozer) + Eradicator (HB sponsons, dozer)
Vets (3 snipers, AC, cloaks+snaremines)

I liked what leman russes did. Pask's punisher is now a versatile and effective gun platform that can threaten anything from massed infantry to toughest tanks and MC. However, they have a few drawbacks either.

For example, when you want to shoot at fmc and want to ground it first, you'll have to forfeit orders meaning no split-fire.
24' range and 6' movement is not really great when the enemy is mobile and can hide behind los but thanks to orders, you can get in firing position by turn 2 moving 12+d6.
If you want to get primaris psyker to twin-link a squadron, you'll need a unit to hide him in. Probably, platoon's better, but i think vets could do for the start.

All in all, i think that Pask's squadron is worth it as allies.

I think Pask needs to be in a punisher to be worth it as an ally. Otherwise you might as well get a generic tank commander and put those 40 points towards a psyker to twin-link the guns.

Pointing out again that he get's precision shots since it keeps getting missed.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.
