Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the original trilogy more, that doesn't mean I hate the prequels.

The reason why I'm not a big fan of the prequels is that a lot of stuff seem to be shoehorned in to make sense for the original trilogy. That's why I'm not a big fan of prequels in-general.
Also, the overuse of CG makes a lot of scenes fairly sterile and/or chaotic. Lucas seemed to have forgotten about the concept of "less is more".
I honestly didn't really care about Jar Jar. I found Darth Maul more annoying as his character seemed absolutely pointless except for obligatory lightsaber battles.

I doubt that the tech would be incompatible.Notice how R2 can fit into a naboo starfighter, then about 30ish years later fits into a x-wing?

Darth maul was kinda like "Whoops! Oh-Nos a Sith! RAWR!" Never really got him. Or why anyone older than twelve at the time did either. The whole point to his character is that he dies to make room for another. And I love R2-D2, like a bro, we tight a'ight? But seriously, wtf is his point other than: "Crap we're in trouble! R2! Put your tiny *ahem* in a wall and save us!". Then you rewrite him in episodes 1-3 to be a total bad ass with jet pack legs? Okay? I guess? The coolest thing before that he did was toss Luke his freaking lightsaber, and serve up a decent martini. What gets me is R2 knows EVERYTHING! And EVERYONE! And no one gets it. Seriously, someone make the scene where Luke asks R2 what his mother Padme was like. What that didn't occur to you? Cracks me up. Just like when Jar-jar got his tongue zapped in the power conduit. 'Bout died of oxygen deprivation I was laughing so hard.
But on a more serious note. You all jumped on the bandwagon. You signed on to this crew for thick and thin. You said 'YES! I AM A STAR WARS FAN! GIVE ME MORE!' You got your hopes up, you wanted to know more about the force, you wanted to know what the Clone Wars were, you wanted ALL OF IT! And you got it! Then you had this whole stick up the *ahem* fit about how "bad" it was. Well too freaking bad. The OT had dumb stupid crap too. And I got money on the new trilogy pissing you off too. I'm going to watch and enjoy it because hell, there's space ships and laser swords and magic. But then I'm going to sit down on my laptop a week later and there will be all the SW nerds going on about it being 'untrue' to the original series or some dumb crap like that. Even with Abrams at the helm, You. Will. Find. Something. Wrong. Because you have nothing else to contribute and god knows a positive opinion doesn't spur conversation. [See Above Thread. Well its implied that R2-D2 has his(its?) memory wiped...
Also, fun fact, the original concept for Star Wars was that R2-D2 was actually the keeper of the Skywalkers story. You know how it always starts with 'A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..." Yeah, thats supposed to be R2-D2 telling the story of these events to future generations, specifically to the "Keeper of the Whills" for entry into "The Journal of the Whills", I believe that its implied that the Whills are actually Yoda's species, though Lucas denies this IIRC.
Otherwise, thank you for posting what has long been in my head.

Only C-3PO's memory was ordered to be wiped. According to the official Star Wars blog, the only memory alteration for R2-D2 was removing the recording of the birth and anything about the twins' parentage and link to each other.

He's actually assigned a mechanic to guard R2 in one book specifically to protect him from being wiped(I believe it's in New Rebellion). That same mechanic actually mentions how odd it is that a unit that old hasn't had a wipe, but figures it out once he starts spending time with R2 and treating him like a living being. Pretty much everyone who has "owned" R2 values his personality and instincts, all of which would be lost in a wipe. Bail Organa specifically didn't have him wiped because he wanted Leia to have R2 and wanted her to have access to all of the information he gathered during the Clone Wars. In addition, wiping droids is SoP for when it changes owners/users. Look at the line of succession for R2: Padme had him "first", who then gave him to Anakin cause Anakin needed an Astromech and knew R2. He was taken by Bail Organa who specifically didn't wipe it to help Leia, who sent him on a mission specifically because the droid knew Obi Wan. On that mission he winds up in Luke's hands, who WAS going to give him a mind wipe until R2 ran away and that plan was scrapped by Stormtroopers killing his family. Since then, he's been in Luke's hands and so Luke has no need to wipe him.

Memory wipes are conducted more often than just during ownership changes, they are actually done as part of regular maintenance specifically to prevent the formation of 'personality' ala R2-D2, also I didn't see it stated anywhere that he specifically spared R2-D2 from the wipe, also, the idea that he wanted to her to have access to info is at odds with the fact that R2 was reprogrammed to prevent that information from being accessed, but otherwise, fair enough, though I still find it hard to believe that not once in 32 years did it ever become a thing.

Or maybe, simply put, none of them were actually all that good (except for the Empire Strikes Back being abso-fething-lutely amazing), and your perception of them being good is clouded by nostalgia? I have a few adult friends that never saw Star Wars (somehow), and upon forcing them to watch, they were just kinda 'meh' about it. Seems most people that fell in love with the films were children when they first saw them (which probably explains why I enjoyed the prequel trilogy, considering I was a child when they came out).

Honestly, I thought Star Wars was "ok" until a few years ago when my wife made the mistake of buying me an AT-AT for Christmas. This then created a tidal wave of purchases of various action figures and ships that I filled my basement with.
I agree that the Star Wars series is not perfect and is riddled with flaws but overall, I find that the original trilogy is better than the prequels for a variety of reasons.

At the very least visually it would be wonky. Clone wars-era Z95's actually look MORE high tech than the ones during the Civil War era, which are actually supposed to be old Clone Wars era-tech.
The circular logic of that makes my head hurt. Same for the Y-Wings.
I would be perfectly fine with old Clone Wars ships in a Civil War-era game, though. Like give the Rebels an Arc-170. I would say old V-Wings for the Imps, but they seem like they would functionally be TIE fighters and Arc's would be a lot like Y-Wings, so functionally not much headway to be gained there.
Instead put more stuff in from the Expanded Universe. We could use a couple more large ships, like the Outrider.

Do they actually need a variety of different type of ships though in the game? Would it add anything more? Or would re-releasing existing ships but in possibly new paint schemes (just for the sake of variety) and new pilots be better?
I guess if two ships are similar enough, they could be given the same stats but they would just look differently.

The best way to release more ships would be to break all the diehard fan's freak-fest about using extended universe stuff. For large ships Shadows of the Empire gets you The Outrider and Xizor's ship, and you have all the ships from the Thrawn dealings, like Skiprays and Chiss Clawcraft.

They've already got EU stuff. The HWK 290 is an EU ship. So is every last ship in Wave 4.
However, I think they need to be careful about adding larger ships. They turn what's essentially a dogfighting game into something else. The two Millenium Falcon list should never have been as good as it was (note that I'm not saying that it shouldn't have been viable; rather, it shouldn't have been one of the single best lists in the game at the time)

Yeah, and you should see how badly worked up people are about it on sites like Boardgamegeek. There are many fans refusing to buy any of the EU stuff- only allowing their games to uhave ships from the main three movies.
We really need to leave those people completely in the dust, because basically every type of fighter-sized ship from here on out will have to come from not-trilogy sources.
They've already got EU stuff. The HWK 290 is an EU ship. So is every last ship in Wave 4.
The Wave 4 ships are only so-so counted as EU, because you can argue that they are from old Lucasarts games (like X-Wing and Tie Fighter), which because Lucasarts itself made them, are considered to be closer to canon than any of the other EU stuff.
However, I think they need to be careful about adding larger ships. They turn what's essentially a dogfighting game into something else. I feel that, too. But it's not nearly as bad as the Epic ships. Large ships are fun, as long as they are used sparingly, because they defeat the purpose of having a dog fighting game when they are too frequently used.

I really dislike the prequels. They were complete garbage. That said, I love the spaceship designs.
If X-Wing brings out Clone War era craft and/or capital ships, I'd actually buy into the game.

AFAIK, the E-Wing is only found in comic books and novels. It never appeared in a video game.
With regards to the Corellian Corvette and Rebel Transport, the information from FFG has been that they're designed for a different kind of game - i.e. not just the straight up "we both get 100 points" sort of game. So hopefully their effect on pick-up games will be somewhat muted.

Yes, some of the Clone War era ships in the prequel look pretty good, though really hated the precursor to the x-wing...
It's really over engineered as a ship design IMHO.
I did like the sleek design of the Naboo starfighters. They were like the "Spitfires" of the Star Wars universe with the ships in the original trilogy having a more functional design like today's fighter jets.

Does it matter though if Disney declares all of the books non-canon though?
I mean, FFG is already releasing/has released "non-canon" stuff anyways. What's to stop them from releasing more, unless they get orders not to anymore?
Having said that though, this may be just my impression, but it seems like FFG isn't really going to be flooding the game with tons and tons of different types of ships. It seems that they are putting a lot of thought into balancing the game. Looking at the Imperial Aces and the Rebel Aces sets, they may be more interested in tweaking the game with re-releases but with alternate paint schemes. Personally, I would prefer that rather than seeing every single obscure ship thrown into the game. But then again, I don't have much attachment to any of the EU stuff anyways. Except for the Tie Defender. Loved flying that thing in the Tie Fighter games.
