Has anyone else started playing Blizzard's electronic CCG?
I'm very much enjoying it, and have finally reached the point where it is more cost effective to enter the Arena rather than buying packs.
Alas, my only legendary has been Nat Pagle. He's not bad, but the knowledge that he could have been a dragon haunts me!
Also- Murlocs. How is the swarm deck Murlocs?
It is free, available on iPad and computers, and very fun. The game moves quickly, and features small decks (30 card limit). Resource progression is fixed, progressing from 1-10 resource points at a rate of 1 additional per turn. There are no lanes, and minions need Taunt to protect the Hero. Additionally, each hero features a power which consumes resources for some affect on the game.

Best game ever! I spent $60 on packs (3 x 15packs) and about $10 on arena on my early days without knowing better.
But I pay money with the intention of supporting a great game, not to be a overpowered player.
With hindsight, The game can really be played even without spending a single dollar. The drawback is with limited cards at the beginning, your options for combos are fewer. The core cards will still give you a fighting chance to win, but doesn't offer the satification of a well excuted combo (such as a murloc deck OP mentioned). I would recommand getting the $50/40packs to start off and earn additional packs with gold. Packs paid with gold still nets you legendary cards. My best packs were drawn with free gold.
The murlocs deck is only so-so and not for competitive play. but the fun in a well excuted combo is awesome!
Spoilers: Once you have 1 of each murloc cards, you will get a free murloc legendary!
The general review is that it is much more easy to learn and fluid than Magic the Gathering, but also relies much more on chance than MTG.

It's pretty damn fun, a good pick-up game with a nice sense of progression through the game. It seems silly but I like the voice acting and sound effects from the cards, it immerses you in the game that much more and I like how you can interact with the scenery; particularly the coconuts . Also it always gets my laughing when I say "Thank you" in such a deadpan voice when I get attacked by the enemy player.

I played it for a while and it has really been a ton of fun, just other things have been getting in the way of it so far.
The animations are sounds are great, it really hits the nail on the head, and even getting new cards feels kinda cool like when opening a new pack of cards in real life.
I do tend to get my ass whipped a lot as I play it totally for free. But my hunter deck does alright!

I love Arena. I get to play with cards I don't own and if you set
things up right, you can get your dailies done that way.
My best run is 6 wins with paladin / priest / hunter. More
often, I go 0-3 lol. Best card I've gotten was Nat PAgle (
seriously a good card because for 2 mana you're getting a
4 wound high priority target that'll force them to draw out
their Shadow Words and other unsavory things. Hide it behind
a taunt and removal is the only way to clear him), and second
best was a golden Tirion Fordirth from an Arena pack.

Aye, enjoying it a lot when I get the chance to play. Been a CCG fan for years, ever since Magic and Blood War suckered me in in the early nineties and I spent way too much money on Deciphers Star Trek game.
Hearthstone really brings the concept to life thanks to the voice work and effects. Its certainly a fun little game to mess about with and I'm hoping it grows with more cards, tactical themes and ideas as it continues.

Now see, I think that is their best feature. They've created a system where the smack talk is optional. Oh sure, you can use your emotes to threaten your opponent constantly, but you can't make your plans for their mother and sister explicit.
That really keeps the focus on the cards.

I played a fair amount during the beta, then fell away as life and my business needed more attention. Now that it's on the iPad, I'm back and loving it even if I am a bit rusty. I play a Paladin deck mostly, for the light!

I agree, it's one of the better features given the nature of competitive online play. Plus, as has already been said, you can friend people and chat with them.

I got my friend down to 2 ho before he used Lord Jaraxxus bringing his health up to 15 health giving him and attack of 3 and allowing him to summon a 6/6 minion as is hero power. I went from victory in the next turn to getting quickly destroyed.

I watched Heartstone videos on YouTube desperately waiting its public release. Got it as soon as it was and... played for a bit. I find watching it more entertaining than actually playing it. So now I watch Trump's channel on YouTube. I will say it's a very polished game from a production standpoint. I've never had any interest in card games until this game, and I think it's the easy-to-understand mechanics that makes it so accessible. Sigvatr wrote:First ranked match, play vs. a dude that uses the card that makes all his creatures not fall below 1 HP for this turn twice. Commanding Shout. Quite a nice Warrior card. Strange to see it played two turns in a row.

If your opponent doesn't have lots of removal, I could see back
to back turns of commanding shout. Since it only applies on
the playing Warrior's turn, you use it to clear enemies with
attacks that would otherwise be suicidal.
Fun combos with Commanding Shout include: Enrage cards
(you're still taking damage if you're not already at 1 health),
on damage effects like the Frothing Berserker and Armorsmith.
Another fun trick is to have Armorsmith(s) and Frothing Berserker(s)
out, drop a Commanding Shout and Whirlwind the table. Your
armor will climb and your berserker will end up buffed to the gills.
Hearthstone works well for many reasons:
1. Production value. For such a simple cardgame, the sound effects
and animations bring a lot of character to the gameplay. I've played
a few online CCGs before, and none of the ones I played had the
fanciness of Hearthstone.
2. Aggressive gameplay elements. Attacking with a minion doesn't
make them unable to defend, those encouraging players to attack
every chance they get.
3. Some level of predictability. The increasing mana pool that caps
at 10 is one aspect. I can plan my next three turns without worrying
about mana, which frees up brainpower to actually consider my
opponent.'s moves.
4. No hate decks. Everything is based on damage and removal,
and nothing your opponent does can mess with your card draws
or mana pool (Overload is something you plan around).
5.Taking advantage of computer refereed mechanics. You can do
things with cards when the computer tracks what you draw that you
can't really do with a physical CCG, such as Avenging Wrath. Also,
trap cards, I mean, secrets.

Hearthstone is not a good game. It has a few nice features like the addition of hero powers and the removal of mana screw and mana flood, but it is not fun. It is a game much more about drawing your bs combo than it is about the gameplay in between. And since almost all rewards are entirely dependant on winning a game (there's twenty-six quests that cannot progress without winning a PvP game and five that can), it makes those bs combos all the more frustrating to play against.
Even when you win, it's more "Choke on your Unleash The Hounds and die, you bastard" than "That was fun".

I don't really like the game. Played about 20 matches but never really got sucked into it. Winning and losing feels very random and not like a personal achievement, plus the time everyone has for his respective turn is too long as well. It lacks the depth games like MtG have and the F2P character is all too revealing - if you have a beginner deck and constantly face people with a fully built deck, it's just pure frustration.
If I still played WoW, I'd be into it for the rewards, but right now, I don't think I'll look into Hearthstone again.

I've been playing since open beta started and have been really enjoying it. I play around 1 hour a day before work and get at least 4-5 games in. It's fast paced and a lot of fun. Although I did break my own rule and bought 15 packs a few days ago for £13.99.... But I still don't see it as pay to win. 90% of the cards that I own have been won in arena. I don't pay to enter the arena, which I find more fun than constructed, and this means that I don't get in as many Arena games as I'd like.
The Narraxmus add on is going to be opened incrementally. The first 'wing' will be free but the others have to opened by either real money or in game gold. It sounds like it could be fun, and I'm dying to try the New cards out.

I'm using the insane drop in value of the old TCG to flesh out my collection of the game, you can pick it up incredinably cheap right now. Just because a game is no longer supported I can still play it myself.
