Anyone else dislike the new website for GW? It just seems alot more complicated than the last, and you have to scroll too much to find anything .

I dont care much for it, no. Its a bigger pain to get to where you want. It does fit the minimalist approach Gee Dubs has been going for so there is that.

I don't like it either.

It looks pretty, but the system where you check boxes to view sub-categories is beyond annoying, because it means scroll-wheel clicking to open pages in new tabs is not possible.

Also, holding the mouse cursor over the categories on top used to open drop-down menus. It doesn't now, and that's something I miss. I'm not crazy about the "Show X products per page" thing either. It ruins the smoothness of the browsing.

So in my opinion the new site looks great, but it's been made much worse for my site navigation needs.

It is quite pretty, and has a nice interface on the surface. However, I really don't like the fact that the force organisation options are separate from the army options how. Also, I really dislike the fact that they have split up the different options in lots of kits into separate entries, the worst one I've seen being the Baneblade and variants for the Imperial Guard.

I think their last site was 1000x better than this new one. I'm hopeful they'll start making tweaks to this new one to improve it.

What confuses me the most is the abundance of missing product. Things that you wouldn't expect to be missed.

40K Templates
40K Psychic cards
etc.

There's SOoo much that isn't there anymore. Depending on how you may choose to look at it, missing product could be a good thing, but I suspect not.

It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

Really? The new GW site has been discussed to death. Not sure what this discussion adds.

And the FAQs are back up on the BL site.

This discussion adds absolutely nothing!

I like the looks of it but the new site feels more like a storefront than hobby page. I used to enjoy perusing through the old GW website but the new one is only there to buy stuff.

Drive me closer, I want to hit them with my SWORD!!

I assume by 'using' you just mean buying stuff, as there's not really anything else on there?

I have some friends who are relatively new to the hobby, and the fact that we can now organize things based on FOC types and other filters, it's drawn them a bit deeper in to the hobby because they can basically decide what they want/need next a lot easier.

None of them own their respective army books/codexes. Yet.

It's... kind of 'eh' - a good step up from 'meh'.

Not great, but also nowhere near the worst gaming site that I have ever encountered.

Easy enough to find what I look for, but not as quick if you knew what you were doing with the old site.

Overall...

I would give the old site a '7' and this one a '6'. So... around average.

The Auld Grump, not worth scrapping the Black Library and Forge World Facebook pages for, that's for certain.

The GW site is great for seeing pictures, 360 views and (for whatever they're worth) descriptions. As far as I've understood, indie sellers aren't allowed to use the official pictures of the minis on their sites, and have either some blurry pics of glossy shrink wrapped boxes or none at all. It's also good for comparing indie prices to GWs own. Back when I bought GW stuff I often had the GW site open in one tab and the site where I'd actually buy from in another.

To me it's more of an online catalogue than a store.

The new site is very 'GW hobby' oriented.
If you agree with GW plc view '.. the GW hobby is buying GW product...'

And it perfectly reflects the games development ethos of making the front end look simple, but it takes lots more time and effort to arrive at what you want.

They did.
There's a tick-box down the side to show it all at once.

As for the new site, it's 'different'. I prefer the old one, as it loaded far faster, and didn't jump you around when flicking between pager.
But the option to limit by price, and by type, are nice.

That said, there's a lot missing.
There's no remove-all button on the checkout, but switching countries does that anyway.
No FAQs,
No painting or modelling guides,
Not all eBook codices are shown, but eBook cards, and iBook codices are (try Eldar).

Also, how many companies can afford to lose over a day of downtime? The site was off-line for over a day, and most companies can manage to build their new site in parallel, and switch over in an instant.

I don't tend to order much online, but I can't find anything I'm looking for. I'm looking for on the site, so started using Wayland's Forge instead for deciding what I want to purchase next.

Feeling very optimistic about the Great Crusade... things can only get better from here.

Well that's it exactly. There are some nice 3D pictures of the miniatures, and it's laid out well enough to find what you want easily.

Other than that, unless you are just buying stuff, which you can do from any web store,it's possibly the worst website of any wargames manufacturer out there.

Consider what it is lacking; taking a cross-reference of any number of any other games, inc. Battlefront, Mantic, Infinity, Warlord Games etc.
- Previews of new miniatures, upcoming event previews,
- Discussion forums, twitter, facebook links. These usually include a massive amount of focused discussion and serve to foster the player community, even direct discussion with company staff.
- Wide ranging painting and modelling guides, terrain building etc.
- Online, interactive army builders, links to rules WIKI and FAQs, downloads of rules/scenarios, battle reports, introductory rules etc.
- Player finder, distributor finders, info about starting and resourcing clubs
- Interviews with staff, background material, artwork depositories
- links to other companies selling supporting products, and other supporting material

I realise a lot of the limitations of the site are down to GW's current policy, which give the website creators about as much to work with as a North Korean government journalist writing an after-match report about one of their soccer games, but that still doesn't change what this site is actually offering to wargaming fans. In essence, sweet FA.

Want to look at nice images of GW minis? Here is another website that offers the same function: www.google.com
