A friend brought this to my attention today, and I downloaded it to give it a whirl and it looks like a great little tool to help you track and organize your hobby painting projects. Especially if you are not so great at taking notes on what you did in a project like I am lol!

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/paintmyminis/id766502419

and the review by Multi-Demon winner Mat Fontaine -
http://www.akaranseth.com/blog/paint-my-minis-app.htm

It has a very nice interface and quite robust feature set... for 2.99, definitely no regrets!

NOTE: The developer has indicated that if there is interested he would definitely consider doing an Android version, so if you like what you see read the 4th post below and let them know you want it!

From Scriblab Products regarding Android: "If you like to see PaintMyMinis on Android as well please drop me a line at: support@products.scriblab.de. You will get on the list and if an Android version would be available: you get notified. Your eMail will only be used for that purpose. Optionally subscribe to the newsletter, join the forum or like ScriblabProducts on Facebook for news and updates." They are seriously thinking about it but need a little bit of encouragement.

This is a small group from what I understand... it's not like Popcap or whatever not doing it. Apparently they are willing to do it if the demand is there -

Considerably less than half of the market. Android is far more popular than Apple. Looks interesting, joining the Android waiting queue.

That is very cool, yet another reason to compel me to get a tablet or mobile device

Also, if the Android brigade took a second to actually read the link, it mentions plans by the developers to release an Android compatible version if there's enough interest and enthusiasm.

That it covers Vallejo, P3 and Citadel paints is awesome, certainly what I use at any rate

Re: Android. It's not as simple as many like to make it seem though. In fact a lot of comments about android/iOS are gross oversimplifications that have no basis in reality to be honest, and really it just sucks to let the myth persist because all it does is frustrate absolutely everyone involved for no reason.

Making the app in one mobile OS doesn't necessarily easily translate to the other, sometimes/often it is in fact extremely difficult. It is actually quite complex to port software from one to the other unless it was done in flash to begin with and even then that's a specific function set. Most use objective C or other specific languages and methods it can be essentially a rebuild of the app from scratch to all intents and purposes. Smaller teams or individuals are commonly expert in only one language for one mobile OS, and maybe passingly familiar with another. It isn't a simple thing to do guys to put an app out for every platform at once, not by a longshot. It seems like it should be though, I admit, even I wonder at times why... until I followed up with app programmers to find out more. If you want to know why GW isn't doing it there is your answer, it is very expensive and time consuming, especially if the initial ground-work wasn't explicitly layed out to accommodate both.

So, though I realize it is frustrating to be 2nd in line, the developer has indicated they are willing to do it if demand is there, so if you want the app, don't get mad that the realities and expenses of programming don't accommodate some baseless simplistic paradigm pulled out of thin air, just go with the flow and indicate you would like them to do it and give them the chance... ?

Don't want to go too off-topic with this, let's talk about this very cool and useful app instead of the ongoing cold-war between mobile handsets and the realities there-of?

Don't forget to download the expanded paint files if you do get this guys... they are under the 'manual' tab on the site. I suggest you download all the files you want out of the selection on a computer and then email them to yourself and open them on your device from there, takes forever to do it directly from the phone -

Well a calculator is an expensive version of your fingers lol...

There is enough meat on the bone here, including the icons and the mix ratio and customization to show exactly what you do to the paint that is pretty convenient. If you are diligent and have a notebook next to you you are good at keeping updated and put away safely, then ya, you don't NEED this... but, if you are like me and often wing it more or less, and are not in the habit of noting your stuff and not very paper oriented anymore, this is a good app. It guides you to put down a lot of detail you may not think of, and collates it very nicely for you. It also has features that can help out with color decisions if you are weak on theory.

Overall, for 2.99, which is less than a pot of paint from most companies, I think it is worth the shot, IF the idea of it appeals to you, it is a well put together and designed app.

I get what it does, at a lower price like 69p I'd probabily have bought it.
but any app over 69p I concider a premium app and take a look at it's value, which I don't see.

With this digital notes app you still have to take the time and enter all that data. every mix, every scheme...
Which if I'm not inclined to do on paper I'm unlikely to do within an app while I'm mixing paint!

I refer back to my blogs when I forget what I've done and most of the time I've not wrote down what I mix I used.
I think that if I'd bought this app, I'd probabily discover I didn't spend the time updating every colour combo I mix and be none the better having spent £1.99...

@Panic, fair enough. Definitely not for those happily and efficiently using a system, paper or not...

Just for me, I have jotted things down occasionally but I am so completely 100% electronic otherwise that I end up just losing the notes or never referring to them. I was thinking I need to get my stuff together on that front the past few months as I have been doing a few things involving mixing my own washes and paints from scratch for a few specific colors I needed either not available exactly right or in bulk. Of course, I failed to write half of it down lol.

So this one, living on my phone, and literally always on me and relatively easy to input data into is just good timing. Certainly not the only method, but it appeals to my personal taste of how to do things... added bonus, can copy and paste and screenshot for easy sharing... again, not anything you can't do on your own, but a nice feature set none-the-less imo.

As with all things, YMMV of course, but so far it has gotten me to write down more in a few days than I did in the past 5 years, so it's a plus for me lol

Code in Haxe = App for all platforms, with ease. It outputs native C too, not some bulky runtime wrapper like Adobe AIR or Loom. I use the OpenFL extension and love it... even does html5!

The app is neat I must admit.

I have primed popsicle sticks, I paint and make notes on and drop in the box with the models and stow away after the project is done so I can make more if needed... seems like less work in this way.

The spreadsheet I like better if you want something sortable and searchable. I think I would have better use of the app if I did much more mixing.

BUT having a phone on you at all times, good drop-down menus and able to take the picture and import into that entry makes it pretty slick.
