So I've been out of 40k for a very long time, and when I got back into it the first thing I saw was the Dark Vengeance Chosen, and then was promptly disappointed when I found out that they aren't customizable and all the rest of the CSMs look pretty much exactly the same as they have for 10 years. I've gotten several plastic kits of CSMs and Terminators, and am pondering how I'm going to go about customizing them to fit the aesthetic of the more recent GW artwork/supplements for CSMs, and one thing I REALLY want to have is a decent number of Marines with helmets that look like this guy;

That fella looks menacing as hell, and unlike the regular frowny face CSM helmets, the horns look like they're meant for the helmet, and not just glued onto the regular Marines. I'd imagine that when he was still a Crimson Sabre he wore the MK IV Maximus pattern helmet, and that it grew to be that over time through modifications and alterations by the warp. It looks bestial and menacing and the whole helmet just kinda fits together organically. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas of how to perhaps convert some of FW's Maximus helmets to resemble this. It seems much more cost efficient than buying sprue upon sprue of DV Chosen and cutting the heads off the bolterbros. Thoughts?

It doesn't sound like a bad idea. Though, you could also go on ebay and get some Raptor/Warptalon bits. They have a bunch of helmets like that.

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
30k Ultramarines: 2000 pts
Bolt Action Germans: ~1200 pts
AOS Stormcast: Just starting.
The Empire : ~60-70 models.

Yeah I'm actually planning on doing that, too. The main thing is the horns. I wanna have some nonstandard CSM helmets that still have the horns jutting out on either side. It's kind of that classic "Chaos warrior" look that GW has always had in both 40k and WFB. Also thinking about using some heads and other parts, namely shoulders and legs, from Evilcraft. But still, gotta have that horned silhouette on a good number of my guys, yknow?

Oh wait, I see specifically the one you're talking about now. This has some potential right here...

Yeah the raptor kit would be a good starting point. Would give you a solid base to start converting from.
