So scarabs on quad gun make bs2 str 7 4shot twinlink skyfire,interceptor,Entropic strike shots with nemosar Zhandrek you can give them tank hunter, and with a D.lord you can give them Preferred Enemy(everything!). This is more of a thought excersise then anything to put into practice but i was wondering if it was possiable to give these scarab gunners more special rules to tack on?
With what i have currently is bs2 str7 4 shot twinlink, skyfire, interceptor, Entropick strike, tank hunter, Preferred Enemy(everything!)
there has to be more we can do. Right?

Well, I don't really think there's anything else you can give them. Preferred Enemy doesn't do anything for them anyway, right? Once they're twin-linked? Automatically Appended Next Post: I take that back, you don't have a rending, cover-ignoring quad gun, and I don't think Necrons get access to that.
Also Haywire? But I don't think anyone gets to turn an emplaced weapon haywire. Automatically Appended Next Post: As to why you'd need more, a non-rending quadgun isn't going to do anything to an AV14 vehicle like a Leman Russ.
Actually Armourbane would be even better, but that's something else I don't think you can bestow upon the weapon. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and split-fire, so that the rest of the squad could fire at a different target (you, know, if that were a thing you wanted scarabs to do).

Well the entropic strike reduces the armor before it rolls to pen so it doesn't need rending vs vehicles and tank hunter helps with that too. The prefered enemy everything helps it reroll wounds vs non-vehicles.
Maybe add spyders for scarab farming and replaceing scarabs shot at that are manning the quad gun since they are so low to the ground you pretty much have to have the quad gun infront of the ADL or at the end of it so it gains cover for the scarab is out in the open and the rest behind the ADL..
I guess another question could be would this set up in any of its forms be worth it point wise? The D.lord is very pricy for such a minor boost. Zhandrek is a pretty solid warlord and doesn't have to be in the scarab unit to give them tank hunter so that's easily given without issue.

The problem with entropic strike is you're only getting 2 hits on average at BS2, which means a vehicle's AV is going down by 1 per turn on average. Now one thing I'm not clear on is whether cover saves are taken before or after the entropic strike kicks in or whether they would negate it.
If you want the quadgun to be gross and broken you need to be killing faster than that.

@mavnas entropic strike is rolled after hits but before pens have been rolled its simply a 4+ after each hit to remove an AV. And is the two hits on average taking into count the twin-linking? And AFAIK aside from super-heavys there is nothing that saves vs entropic strike. The scarabs are the only unit that can use their entropic strike at range with the quad gun sadly.

BS2 = 1/3. Twin linked you get that up to 5/9ths which is just over half. Don't get me wrong, I can see it being useful, but it would be more useful if you could wreck things.
Actually... you might better off with a building that has 4 emplaced heavy bolters. You could have the scarabs fire 12 shots at things then, though at that point you'd be relying on them stripping AV even more and without an external source of twin-linking :(

well you can have a triarch stalker to "paint" the target and give them all twin-linking from that. But i thought that beats couldn't be inside buildings?

If a model has the rule, all it's attacks have it unless it's been FAQed, this is probably an oversight where they didn't consider them firing embraced weapons.
It's the same way I place my retributor sister superior on the gun for precision shots that rend for 2 turns.
Oh, that's another rule you're missing: precision shots.

Not really. Certain rules are ambiguous enough on what may have been intended. Despite the position someone might take on the interpretation of the rule, not everybody plays what they argue. A key rule is regarding LOS. Strict RAW, any model that does not possess eyes (Wraithlords, Tau battelsuits, SM with helmets), cannot draw LOS. People, especially in a rules discussion, will support this. How many people do you think actually plays that way?

I think scarabs should have been given weapons with the rule rather than getting it themselves directly, but they did and unless that has been FAQed away... It wouldn't be the first time the RAW are stupid.

That would be absolutely wonderful *IF* you could actually do that. Except, you draw line of sight from your scarab, and not the gun, and a scarab can't see over an aegis defense line.

Wraithlords are explained in fluff to have poor vision and require a warlock around to help them *see*, so that argument is invalid.
Tau battlesuits have sensor holes on the helmet, and black sunfilters which specially state they may see in the dark, so argument invalid.
SM helmets have eye slots, so who ever decided that is the reason why people who play table top games are considered societies rejects, and why most people who play these games have serious social, and life issues.

lets not turn this into a YMDC please there are already two or three threads there that talk about scarabs and sntropic strike and its all RAW that it works because scarabs are causing the wound not the quad gun.
As for LOS have the quad gun infront of the ADL and a scarab beside it with the rest of the scarabs behind it. you have LOS and only loose one scarab at a time unless barrage happens. yes this makes the quad gun easier to destroy but this thread isn't for it's practical ability in a game it is to show a silly example of some neat things that scarabs can do with the quad gun.
I haven't used it in a game yet but i want to because it is a silly idea and it could be a very useful support tactic that is useful against any and all armor 9besides superheavys) and great at helping AA. It may not kill things outright but it can turn vehicles into mush and let the rest of our stuff blow it away.

Yeah, in terms of practicality guardsmen are better quad gunners because they can be ordered to ignore cover (no jink) or be tank hunters depending on the situation, or even split fire if you want to shoot AA from the gun and put their las gun fire into something else.

Well you can place the quad gun within 6" of the wall by stronghold assault. or just place it at one end of the wall. And they can see over it, they're just looking really high when they do
But to get more you need allies, I'm not sure who all are BB for necrons and what psychic powers they can grant but there has to be some good stuff that way.
