well, it is everyones favorite soylent! (Am I the only one who still wonders whats in soylent yellow and red? I think it could be worse then people...)
I mean, there just seems to already be a disturbing trend of feeding cows/cow byproducts to cows, same with pigs and poultry ect, to the animals on an industrial scale.
generally it has been ok, but specifically it has caused some real issues (mad cow ect), but most frightfully, are not the issues we know it causes, but the ones we have not identified (or at least identified as cause by large scale livestock cannibalism)
Sure we have been using sprays for a long time, but the kind keeps changing as does the amount used.
I mean, people have been living under the sun forever, but that doesnt mean exposure is good for you.
Same with sprays, tehy most certainly do have detrimental health effects, its just that the detrimental effects of not having enough food to eat are worse, so its not considered an "issue"

Various prion diseases like mad cow are transmitted more easily through brain matter and spinal marrow/fluids. However other parts of the cow can also transmit the diseases.
Which is all well and good if you test every single scrap of cow that gets blendered into the slurry they feed them, but that just does not happen, even after the mad cow scare.
the cost of testing all that biomass is far more then just feeding them "normal" food.
So they do the whole "fight club" calculation where if the cost of the # of people who die/sue due to the contaminated food going out is less then the cost of preventing contaminated food, then they dont bother preventing it.

A statement like that is pretty hard to back up.
SOME sprays might have negative health effects, but I think it's good to be specific about this stuff- DDT for example has documented harmful effects, and is therefore banned in most countries (including the US).

I'm pretty well aware of DDT, cheers. Not all pesticides bio accumulate.
And there is no test for prion disorders that I'm aware of, one of the reasons they are so scary.

Actually its quite proven, consume X amount of sprays and you are ok, consume (y) times X amount of them and you are in bad shape.
Look up the LD 50 of your favorite pesticide and you know its got detrimental health effects.
if you dont believe me, go drink a pint of round up or any other spray you prefer and tell me you have no detrimental effects from it.
If you are correct as you assert, you will be fine.

You are off base. Drink a quart of plenty of stuff and you will be dead- no problem with that.
But in small amounts which the body can deal with, the "sprays" are not harmful, unless they accumulate in tissues. That was the issue with DDT- it accumulated in the food chain, and each trophic level got a higher and higher dose until it was lethal to things that were higher up in the chain.
Pesticides have come a long way since then- many deactivate in the soil, and I am not aware of any that accumulate in tissues that are still commonly in use. If you're worried about that- just wash your veg.
its not... you are just making things up, claiming no modern pesticides are harmfull is just silly and ignorant.
I am not straw manning you... thats your arguement, that pesticides have no proven health detriments even with "normal use" (ie eating food that it has been used on as opposed to chugging roundup)
I wouldnt call 2011 the distant past, but Im sure you want to just keep argueing that all pesticides in use are 100% ok for us to consume. Pesticides do not need to build in concentration as they move up the food chain to be considered dangerous, nor is it required to reach a harmful level of concentration.

I have noticed pretty significant price jumps on meat overall. I wonder if this explains pork, or if it's too recent to have actually reflected into the marketplace? I am sure last year's drought is still a factor.

This is the result of over use of antibiotics coupled with ever increasing population density of the animals.
What I think we are likely to see is disease death rates return to previous levels before antibiotics came into play, and a larger spike in prices then the ones we have already seen.
