The GW-O-Mat in the shopping mall might indeed be something they consider, once they get wary of the one-man-stores.

I thought to myself "well, it can't be a clearance sale." Funnily enough, that was first comment someone posted I guess people outside the realm of Dakka are in-fact aware of GW's...quirks.

So it looks like what they were offering was a LAST CHANCE TO PICK THESE ITEMS UP!

Interesting...now I'll have to figure out who you are in the Non Internet World.

Haha, I make no efforts to keep it a secret- I live in boring old Cary.

No I mean more at the shop. Do you come in often?

I actually haven't been to the shop since the previous manager left, which I think was about 6 months ago. He was a pretty cool guy and so his departure made me return to the FLGS's, like Gamer's Armory and Endless Gaming (both of which are great stores )

most HQs disbanded and only the UK-HQ staff is bloated.

I've got news for you, they are making staff cuts at the Nottingham HQ home office in the UK as well. It had to happen eventually, they've cut everything and everywhere else.

And in preparation for this there pulling older boxes back

They're (as in they are), not "there".

GW just realized they can repackage and sell those $39, 10 man boxes for $25 and put only 5 men in them. See? They have price decreases! You all lie! and they can't hear you LALALALALALA

Pff, I don't think GW have had a sale since....christ it must have been the switch from 2nd to 3rd Edition 40K, when they piled up all the obsolete books on the gaming tables priced at a pound or two each, and gave anyone who bought a few of them a 10% discount on miniatures they bought at the same time.

I would not read too much into this. GW has been doing what every company does, regulating their inventory to the best benefit of sales. This is something they have been doing for 2 decades. Independents used to get stock swaps every year ( not sure if its still the policy) Reprinted, out of print and very poor performing items were on that list. GW factory shops in NA only number 90-100 shops and close to 500 world wide IIRC matched against the massive number of FLGS, taking some product off the shelves that has not had a good sales history is hardly cause for panic.

With the ramped up release schedule GW has had recently and the size of some of the newer box sets, combined with their long existing inventory stocking procedures, this sort of this should not surprise anyone really. Items that have a very low sale rate and items you only need one of for your army take up valuable retail space. I love terrain but its not a regular sell through item and the boxes are big. Send them to direct order only and free up space in the GW shops for more of the newer better selling kits. Yup its sucks you cant get them when you want them but how many of your FLGS have all that terrain on the shelves, not too many that I have seen. I am a fan of the movies and I know it made GW TONS of cash durring the first 3 but LOTR!? That game still makes me scratch my head. The scale the scope. meh just not my thing but it dose not sell enough in any shop I know of to justify the space it hold on the shelves. Until the contract is up and GW finally get that contractual noose off from around its neck this is the best thing for business, to go to direct with most of the LORT stuff. Apologies to those of you who love it but it just does not sell like it use too.

This whole thing use to happen a little under the radar where it would be only a few items that just did not get restocked when they sold through in a shop. So it wasn't really noticeable. Now they are just doing bigger culling of lower turn over product to make room for the current selling stuff. And right before the end of their fiscal year as well. Hardly some thing new or surprising.

GW offering a DISCOUNT? The same company that would rather DESTROY its product instead of selling it for less? No way.

Not gonna see it either. Not until Kirby leaves and probably not then either honestly. It is against policy to have ANY discount or sale. Its on a list called "Things we don't do" usually accompanied by a buzz sentence that says "Sale/Discounts devalue our product."

Eternal Guard are being redone and on paper they were a Core kit since a Highborn leading the army meant they were Core but any other kind of character meant they were Special.
Beastmen got a new Ungor and Gor set(kind of).

I'm not sure what you mean regarding Beastmen, as those sculpts while much newer than a lot of other core (and I quite like them) aren't exactly recent.

Eternal Guard are a special unit, which can be a core unit... but you're obviously ignoring the terrible spear-elves and the archers here, which are the main core (and maybe silver helms?).

Good point about the Dark Elf Warriors, it would be great if that were a trend but since it didn't happen with dwarfs I highly doubt it is.

No. GW made new bare heads, slightly changed the legs to make them not squat and added grab guns, a versatile combi-weapon, mk 4 legs and hands holding knifes/ammo. Well worth an extra £1.50.

That's an interesting statement. A product's value is entirely based upon what someone will pay for it. If no one is buying it then it's value is effectively zero. So lowering the retail price in order to sell it is actually giving the product value, as you've now received cash for the product. But that's just a little business sense.

Next thing to go will be the W, from now on we will all be playing G games, not to be misinterpreted as the movie rating because this is more cinematic than Barney, though feel free to paint your $100 dinosaur any color you want as long as you use the G brand paints, brushes, glue and tools. Just don't expect to play the G game at our stores because we have to send the tables back to save money.

We thought 40k was just a quick abbreviation, little did we realize they were saving money by not hanging the comma and the zeros and had gotten a good deal on Ks.

another anonymous source on Faeit 212 wrote:This is a new strategy that has started. For instance the plan is to slowly renew all the core troops. And in preparation for this there pulling older boxes back so they don't have to throw away a lot of items. This is the same for other models. Long planning cut backs, everything they have in the warehouse, they control directly.

Second, the plan is to have all GW shops eventually sell only the new models and models in the new boxes. All finecast kits and old box art will disappear from the shop floor eventually. This is partly due to shop floor spaces (more one man stores with less wall space) and less of their assets in the shops. Which seeing there decline in the stock is a logical step.

This would answer the question how GW plans to save even more costs, now that most sales staff is reduced to one, opening hours are reduced, most HQs disbanded and only the UK-HQ staff is bloated. Reducing stock is one of the last things left.

This just blew my mind.

1) It's short sighted in regards to getting new players into the game, because any armies were they don't sell the core troops you have to specail order now. Thows units are also direct only meaning i can't get them online. I have to get them from GW or a FLGS that has direct order. But I still got to wait a week before i get my modles. =|

2) This is also a big FU to FLGS's that actully try to stock the core units of every time. (Something that has started becomeing rarer and rarer as GW makes this stupid policy changes.)

Also as someone who likes to play fantsey i got a feeling alot of the kits going direct only are going to be fantsey, because GW keeps takeing a poo on it for some reason. =/

I can believe this. GW is definitely the sort of company that would believe that when part of your product line isn't selling, less advertising will help.

I agree with the assessments above generally but I asked about the sale because it was called a clearance earlier in the thread which indicates strongly a discount. I'm curious if there is one in actuality or if it was just a poor choice of terms to use.

Games Workshop: Oakbrook Plaza This table is all of the 'Obsolete Stock' that is getting sent back to HQ (Some never to be seen again). I'm offering to all the OBP Community one last chance to come by and grab some of this stuff before it is gone.

While there are a bunch of kits here, my notables are;
Planetary/Mighty Empires
Chaos Exalted Slaanesh Chariot
The Hobbit Figure Case
The Hills & Fortified Manor
Imperial Strongpoint
All my Catachan Stuff
Orion; Lord of the Woods
And a HUGE amount of older LOTR finecast characters/monsters/box sets

So consider this fair warning, there will be no dragging my feet on this one, this stuff will get sent back SOON!

I'm more intrigued by the 6th Ed rulebooks still apparently on the shelf in the background.

They also have done it when they did not have enough "proper" boxes for a release. I know a few people who preordered stuff for Codex: Eldar ended up having their stuff arrive in those boxes rather than the proper ones, and not just for Finecast. At least one order of Wraithguard/Wraithblades that came through my local GW was in those white boxes rather than the black photo boxes.
