Hi folks! Unfortunately I don't have anything very new as such but I've been thinking about Chimeras. More specifically, those stupid ball-socket lasguns sticking up like a demented hedgehog!
I want to replace them with hatches like on a BMP:

What say you?

Yeah I am not a huge fan of them, somehow the plate that holds them in place fell off even though I used testors. But that seems like a cool conversion idea.

Aesthetically, I would certainly work. The only rules issue you might have is that they are now explicitly Lasgun Arrays rather than Fire Points, but it's nothing a quick pre-game clarification can't fix.

I did consider the whole "lasgun array" thing and thought that if I explained it to an opponent before hand and they were really dickish about it then they probably weren't worth playing anyway- since they passengers will be Grenadiers, it would be a downgrade to use lasguns anyway!

So I've successfully managed to do sweet F A. Well I managed to get around to priming the Hellhound and Praetorian but that doesn't really count. I did get another two Grenadiers built and I've got the knack for attaching he cables- coffee and a hairdrier help no end (though I suspect diazepam would be better).
On the to-do list at the moment:

- Finish building the Grenadiers
- Build the third Infantry Squad (*groan*)
- Prime both Infantry and Grenadiers
- Paint it all.
- Buy Thunderbolt. Get emotional at how gorgeous it is. Cry.

Most likely will when I go to uni, because models are more important than food.

Hmmm.. as an alternative to the side-mounted 'lasgun arrays', you can always make the side ports flush and put two remote weapon stations on the Chimera.

Hmmm I dunno about having two remote systems on the rear of the tank... Perhaps I'll stick with the lasguns, will save any confusion down the line and time to-boot.

I'd have gone with the hatches, at least they are easier to paint, than the lasguns.

I don't think a remote system work work with the krieg

Hey mate....

Got to agree with OneManNoodles and say that your prob best not going for an auto-gun unit in the Chimera, IMHO Its a basic workhorse troop carrier and with the turret mounted weapons is properly covered. Its up to the support vehicles to add the real covering fire an firepower...

Also, just my 2p worth, but I had a crack at an auto-gun system for my ESTOC Fast Assault Carrier, Was pretty happy with how it came out... just for reference...

I recon with a well armoured troop compartment you should be good to go!

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

We'll see how the hatches go- I was going to do a detailed interior with lasrifles on weapon racks so that is maybe how I'll get around any neckbeards that get their knickers in a twist!

I feel like writing fluff. So here goes...

It was cold. Bitterly cold. Snow drifted wearily between the trees and settled on branches which, in some instances, sagged under the burden. It fell around a ruined house and gusted in through broken windows and door frames on the breath of the freezing wind.

The man looked up from the small fire and felt the chill of the flakes on his face before returning his attention to the meagre warmth before him. Rubbing his hands together and stamping his feet, he desperately wished to be somewhere more sheltered, somewhere with more protection than that offered by the ruin and the bodies of his comrades huddled together. Still, at least it was quiet in this area and that was something to be grateful for. It had been days since there was any fighting and no reports, such as they were, had indicated any activity in the enemy's positions. All was quiet.

The man grinned at the thought, spread his hands before the fire and shared a joke with his fellows. There was muffled laughter and a feeling of mirth shared by men who had fought and suffered together. Yes, perhaps the enemy had given up? Maybe they all died of the cold? It wasn't long before he would curse himself for such foolish thoughts...

A shout went up from the sentry posted on the top floor. Movement had been spotted in the fog amidst the trees. Dark shapes flitted from tree trunk to tree trunk, accompanied by a bass rumbling, like that of a hungry predator. The mean in the ruin took up positions in the windows, doorways and prepared defences facing the oncoming threat. Lasguns rested on window frames and Heavy Stubbers swivelled on tripods, belts of ammunition fed into breeches and firing pins at the ready. Suddenly a bolt of bright blue light lanced from the mist and impacted with a wet crack against something on the top storey, followed by the thump of a body hitting the floor. The order was given to open fire.

Bolts of light speared from the ruin and hit trees and branches and fizzed through the snow, kicking up steam as they burrowed into the ground. The Heavy Stubbers left trails of light as tracers criss-crossed the empty space between the tree-line and the old building. Fire was exchanged between the two forces as the attackers converged on the ruin, many shadows in the fog dropping to the ground as they were struck. On they came until they stepped through the blanketing mist and they were truly terrible to behold- figures of death storming through a hail of shot and shell, billowing trench coats trailing behind them as they charged heedless of losses or danger to themselves. White armour covered their shoulders and white helmets adorned their heads but it was the masks that they wore that made them terrifying- the Death's head leered out from beneath the Imperial Eagle emblazoned on the front of their helmets. Accurate Heavy Bolter fire stitched across the face of the ruin, blasting the brickwork to dust and drawing screams from those within. Blue bolts hissed through the windows and doorways. The bass rumble gave way to the snapping of timber as a tank forced its way through the trees, a long barrel traversing to engage the walls.

These were the Death Korps and the defenders were already dead.

By the foot of the Andes

I felt cold though we are almost into summer now, and I'm latching the window's shutters before going to sleep for the first time in years.

So I guess very good.

Cheers, and keep it flowing, models or tales, both are good

Thanks chaps.

@LT, I very much tried to convey the biting cold and the down-trodden nature of whoever was fighting.

@Ustrello, I trust you found my tale... Chilling? *whips out pipe* Muhah!

Very cool stuff, write more! Also, for some reason, I find the idea of blue lasgun shots really cool. Not quite sure why, but they certainly work here, maybe reflecting the coldness of the piece.

Thanks very much Paradigm. I wanted to leave the nature of he defenders as ambiguous- just normal men, no chaos/traitor/mutant rubbish as not everyone in the 41st Millenium would be a "good guy" or a "bad guy". I saw this as a human populated world that didn't want to become a part of the Imperium. The name of the world is Ardinus (see what I did there?) and is a densely forested world much like Tanith (but without the annoying moving trees). I can foresee some chaos influence at some point, not overwhelmingly so though as I envisage true corruption to be insidious and subtle.

Also, to Thunderbolt or not? I think yes as they are very, very nice but I've been having heated discussions with my bank balance of late and we are at an impasse...

Hey mate! Nice bit of fluff there.... and I agree with you... the independent planet not wanting to bend to the yoke of the Imperium is a nice touch!

and definitely go for the Thunderbolt.... or.. if the bank balance is resisting....... a man of your skills would have no worries knocking one together!

Cheers Magos, I think I might write a bit more. I was supposed to finish building the rest of my Grenadiers last night but I just wasn't in the mood so I wrote that piece as a way to get me thinking about hobby again!
I have thought about building my own Thunderbolt from plasticard but I just know it won't be 100% bang-on...Truth be told, I don't think I'd be up to the task as it seems very daunting.

Haha! I am not dead, much to the dismay of what I assume to be a large number of you who are sick of seeing my "non-update" updates (this being one of them...).

Ahem, anyhoo... I have hit a bit of a wall with my Krieg: the fires of enthusiasm are merely embers which I hope to stoke into an inferno come the new year. But despair ye not, o' Dakkanaughts for I have decided to forge ahead with my Marines. Incidentally, they still don't have a name and I am somewhat loathe to give them one. No matter. I plan to have some more done to the Terminator commander I have actually started to paint. I am struggling somewhat with the power sword- my first attempt at the crystal/gem/whatever it's called effect was nothing short of a tactical-time-out-inducing disaster so I'm going to approach it slightly differently. Time will tell how it goes and I'm guessing the quality will be dependent on the quantity of tea involved...
