Been Around the Block
|
I've had my AOBR Orks collecting dust long enough and I figured a kill team would be a fun way to get into Orks. If I like them might even start my 2nd army with them. Below are the models I have (still need to assemble/paint them all).
1x Ork Warboss
20x Ork Boyz
5x Ork Nobz
3x Ork Deffkoptas
Where should I start with what I currently have?

as for expanding your army... boyzboyzboyz! never got enough boyz!
than you can grab yourself some elites say lootas 10-20 if them
if your going tide lotsa boyz never hurts! or some trukks to move em up and some battlewagons.
as for your backfeild shooting squads of kannons is good to sit back and shoot for a cheap pt value.

Orks want to play Kill Team matches with as many bodies as they can muster. I would take something like:
10 Boyz
-1 Big Shoota, Nob w/ Power Klaw
10 Boyz
-1 Big Shoota, Nob w/ Power Klaw
This should be at or just under 200 points. Converting 2 of the Nobs to have Power Claws should be very easy. 20 models is pretty hard to shift in Kill Team.

Dang straight! I took Nobz once, maybe twice, in KT and regretted it. I always like taking a Loota (or two) and upwards of 30 (28 w/ two lootas) Shoota Boyz. My best KT ever was stuffing them all into a good ruined building in the middle of the field (doing a 6-7 person Free For All) and just shooting at anything that came within my LOS. It came down to me and the DE player that I'm fighting this Sunday just trading blows and bogging each other into a war of attrition. We eventually just called it a night since we were both hot on the cover saves.

sounds like a very fun idea! i play alot of kill teams at my local GW store and the list too see to be most effective is the 30boyz with 2bigshootas and a rokket but i recently have been bringing 10boyz in a trukk and abunch of shoota boys with big shootas running around.

my understanding of the KT foc is up too 1Elite 1troop 1fastattack? thats how my local gw store does it. and my rules lawyer friend hasn't said anything about it as well.
Ah. Interesting. I have almost always played where you can only pick one unit and you can only upgrade that unit as allowed per normal Codex rules, but all models in that unit act as independent characters. However, we all play differently and that's awesome! I may have to try out your way sometime. My Orks list would be a heck of a lot better with some DeffKoptas in there to support my Boyz! Thanks for sharing, mate!

actually i think its 2 troops. because you can run 10boyz with a trukk and 16boys walking. i should look into it. but ik for sure you don't just gotta have one unit!

My Ork kill team looks something like this, its worked out very well with the Koptas, T5 and 2 wounds is awesome when you give them survivability specializations

I just find moving and shooting with 30 boys as seperate units takes so long its not even fun, but if you want to be competitive 30 boys will win lol

i love rolling dice! its like its my hobby or something!  i think im somewhere near 10-0 with my 30boyz but iv recently switched to 10boyz in a trukk and about 15boyz.

Hmm. 10 Boyz in a Trukk is nice purely for the fact that it gets you up the board faster. Hehe. And I agree with you about rolling dice! However, I really want to get a Dice Tower, myself. Seems like it would be easier. But I don't know how realistic it would be for such a large amount of dice needed for a regular game.

Pretty sure with RAW the boyz are one unit until they get out of the trukk, meaning they'll murderize exactly one model per turn.
I've never used PK Nobz but I can tell you now, no.

Trukks are okay to take in KTs if you're not going up against a whole lot or if you have a lot of cover to dart behind. I still prefer to make my opponents go 'oh dear god' when they see me pulling out 20+ models for the match.

Nob in biker squad is good. I've tried regular bikes once and barebonez bikernob was great. But yep, no point to take a footslogging nob.
Aobr boyz are all sluggas, so it's a good idea to convert or count them as shootas. You'll need more shootas anywayz.

I had 12 of each custom ordered off of chessex
As of boyz in a trukk
Move quickly if they don't bring much of a heavy wep it will do fine
Has a basically free big shoota
Each model inside can shoot at a different unit
And you get 14boyz with a big shoota to back it up.

Problem with bikes is they kill 51% and your army has to start rolling break tests per model on ld7 and they die

Those are some beautiful dice, mate! And I like the idea for a dice tower on a budget! Ha. Might I ask what the inside of it looks like? Did you also use Jenga pieces for the slants on the inside to make the dice randomized? And what did it cost you for 12 custom cheesex dice, just curious?

The inside is 3 2cm thick peices of cork. (I use cork so the dice roll quietly) most people use plastic and the remaining 2 peices of the jenga set to make them more sturdy. The dice from chessex custom shop they charge around 90cents per side that you wanr custom made on each dice. Shipping to the US is around 11$ though so its good to buy alot at once. (Also took 3-5weeks to make my 36dice)
Edit: i used ducktape and super glue to get the cork to stay. Its strong enough to hold my bag of 120dice rolling all at once.
Whole thing costed me around 10-15$ to make as i got the jenga set on clearance at target
Edit 2: the bottom of the tower is made of cork aswell.
