Marvel's Agent Carter," starring Captain America's Hayley Atwell follows the story of Peggy Carter. It's 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life—Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films "Captain America: The First Avenger" and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," along with the short "Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter."

Starring Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, "Marvel's Agent Carter" is executive produced by Christopher Markus, Steve McFeely, Tara Butters, Michele Fazekas, Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Jeph Loeb.

Could be interesting if they can pull it off as well as Agents of Shield, and I'm glad to see Howard Stark back. Given the One-Shot of the same title, I think we can assume this will also feature something about

Yep, looking forward to this.

That said, I'm more interested in the Netflix series they are working on.

This does not seem like a character that quite warrants a TV series. I mean, she's not awful, but out of the entire stable of Marvel properties to be plumbed, this seems like an odd pick.

Fair point. I'm hoping they're going to feature Howard Stark (and fingers crossed, Dumdum Dugan) fairly heavily, both to spread the load a little and because they're cool characters.

It looks like the want a cross between SHEILD and the stylisation of Madmen to get the ladies interested.

I like both and well eerrr..... Haley Atwell, what's not to like?

I think it's a great idea. The Agent Carter One Shot was a nice "proof of concept", and they can use the show to showcase some of the older-style Marvel villains.

As for the cast... well there's a good chance of Howard Stark showing up, even if its just a reoccurring role. As it happens, Trophy Wife, starring Bradley Whitford, just got cancelled, so maybe they can hire him to reprise Agent Flynn.

And according to The Winter Soldier, Peggy eventually married Falsworth from the Howling Commandos (also known as Union Jack in the comics), so there's that avenue they could pursue.

I've not seen Winter Soldier yet, but Union Jack is namechecked? Please, please let him be in it, preferably in full nazi-bashing Bond-Meets-Captain-America mode.

It'd be interesting to see more of the Commandos, too. Dugan was in First Avenger, and in AOS Tripplett mentions his dad was a member, so if Falsworth is mentioned in TWS then I think there's a chance they might go for it.

Well not name-checked as Union Jack, just mentioned by his normal name. Remember, he was in The First Avenger as part of Cap's team, so his presence in the MCU isn't a new thing.

If that were the case they wouldn't keep making money. You have the following shows to look forward to:

Agents of SHIELD (Season 2)
Daredevil
Luke Cage
Iron Fist
Jessica Jones
The Defenders
Gotham
Arrow (Season 3)
Flash
Constantine
iZombie

And they're just the ones I can remember.

Surpassed some time ago. But thats ok. I won't watch network TV anyway. Others will like it so good all around.

I'm far more cultured than that. I only watch intellectually stimulating shows, like Party Down South. Returning June 5th!

Have faith and hope- if this is what Disney is doing with the MCU, what will it do for Star Wars? Boba Fett seems assured of approval.

We may even see a BSG style series following one of the surviving Star Destroyers from the Battle of Endor, as they flee the encroaching Rebels on their way to the Core Worlds.

It is great to see a female lead superhero show too- it has been a real sausage fest lately.

That may be, but it's hard not to agree with what Alan Moore said about grown men being the main consumers of stories and superheroes that were essentially designed for teenagers in 1950s America. Now, I've nothing against superhero films, but I dread the day that Ironman 20 or Batman, the Dark Zimmer frame rises (Bruce Wayne in his 90s coming out of retirement) hits the screens.

It's just a sign of cultural stagnation, in my view. I want art-house, French art-house films from the 1960s! I want Hollywood to chuck 500 million at making an art-house film!

I'm imagining the show to be akin to agents of SHIELD in that it will introduce some more characters that aren't big enough to feature in a film. In AOS we've had Graviton,Blizzard, Deathlok a lot and a fully fledged return of Hydra. There's plenty of scope to do something similar, as there were a lot of villains around in WW2 and after that they could use.

Taking out Red Skull wasn't the end of Hydra, and I think seeing them infiltrate the early days of SHIELD could make an interesting counter-plot to AOS.

They cancelled Trophy Wife? That's a shame I actually enjoyed that show.

If you haven't seen the Agent Carter one-shot, I highly recommend watching it.

And yes I agree with everyone else, get some howard and some dum dum dugan and you got a fun show

I think it's a good idea, We have a character not generally portrayed in the comics that they are free to do pretty much whatever they please with.
I think there is a lot of potential there.

Arthouse? In Texas!

The day arthouse appears in Texas is the day that Texas bans beer, Texans cover themselves in I love Obama stickers, and Texas itself threatens to break away from the union if the 2nd amendment is not repealed!

I thought that about SHIELD at first, too. Unfortunately, anything Whedon sticks his fingers in is prone to lifeless storytelling and plot development. Let's contrast Carter as a quality show with Constantine and see which turns out to be the stronger show.

I still can't believe SHIELD got a second season while Almost Human didn't.

SHIELD has Disney's money thrown behind it, relatively small production costs and a cast that is excluding a few guest stars and 'primary' cast members relatively unknown.

Almost Human didn't.
