The only problem with the way you display those armies, is the client will eventually get that and think "well........ it's not as awesome as that epic picture was"

Oh even on a plain kitchen table, that first image would be pretty impressive The terrain is actually pretty plain, other than some signage and depth to the shading. This is why I do not use GW terrain, it would certainly be too busy.

I have never once had that complaint, and usually the first email upon opening the package is that they look better than the photos on an individual level.

I understand your logic though, but it isn't the case.

The white looks fantastic. Do you start with a white base and use a black/dark gray glaze to build up the shadow?

Thanks and take care.

Sure. Here is how I did the white. It was the last large color step.

Basecoat solid medium gray (custom mix)
Light wash of brown/black mix to help me see lines and add a bit of depth.
Highlight lighter grey
Highlight even lighter grey
Lining step to define plates, clean up lines, and add damage
Final pure white highlight and blending

Green is done the same, but with the lining a bit further back.

Holy bejeezus, these are good!

When I look at this amazing painting, I feel like I'm looking at HD or BluRay and everything else is mid-80's VHS by comparison!

Well thank you!

"Cinematic" is definitely an aesthetic I strive for in my painting and photography. I am glad people feel they give off that vibe. Really I just enjoy taking pictures of models, so the more I learn about photography and film the more I add to the look of the pictures.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

This is a heavily resculpted Reaver Titan, built for a client specifically to use in the Adepticon Titan battle this year (although, it was more of an excuse to!). At the time back when I built the Titan, I shared my ideas for something cherub-like, as well as the notion of a character Titan, and he gave me full artistic licence and freedom to make something unique. It would be a complete surprise.

The unveiling was wonderful. Spare blanket covering this toddler shaped thing, walking through a horde of another unrelated convention that was ending, I met the client in the hotel lobby by the fireplace and uncovered to his surprise. "It's a boy!" No cigars were smoked, but he was so excited we walked it over to the bar where some pals were relaxing and they all had a round of oogling the Titan before it was shuffled off to bed. It needed it's rest for the big day!

The actual battle was a success. The Titan drew a crowd and it practically won it for the good side, coming out victorious in it's first game. There was of course, much celebration.

When I set out to build the Titan I knew I wanted something angelic and child-like, with a twist of Gothic and disturbing. The notions of something that is normally beautiful and kind dark and disturbing are two contrasting ideas that work very well together. Inspirations from Bayonetta creatures, the sunrise of Anor Lando, and the grit of Blade Runner all rolled into one freakishly beautiful and imposing machine.

Interested in your own character model that is uniquely yours? Contact me, and let's see what we come up with!

Your designs appear to be on the same mad, brilliant wavelength as John Blanche.

Inspiring!

I get a Tim Burton Batman and Dark City vibe as well. Disturbing and lovely all at the same time. Kudos, sir. Your projects never fail to amaze.

Well done sir.

Myelinated Axon wrote:I LOVE your style. Please teach me how you do your cel shading technique!

It's not so much a cel shade effect, although I can see why it gives you that impression. It's more that you don't often see vehicles hand blended so it has a lot of pop.. Starting with a bright basecoat, and then shading several times and highlighting several times allows you to control the lighting very precisely.

Skimask Mohawk wrote:

Watched. That was good, thank you. I usually prefer to watch a let's play before I watch the runners, but I hadn't found one yet. This clears a lot up and he was a good host.

And yes, if I can manage to find time there will definitely be a nightmare headstone themed photo backdrop.

Thanks again!
