I'm planning on acquiring a few of those new wood elves, and I'd just like to ask Dakka whether they'd mind playing against a bunch of wood elves proxying for Eldar models.
It'll be a very small army, with a wizardy thing on an eagle being a jetbike riding farseer, a few more eagles being bog standard jetbikes (i'll use the ones with spears to represent the shuriken cannons) and the waywatchers being Illic and his band of space-sniper guys.
Would either the proxies, or the square bases prove much of an issue for you?

Honestly I wouldn't be mad or upset with the proxy actually that would be kind of neat
But for the square bases some people might be picky with that

I use square base daemonettes without complaint.
I think square bases are a little bit bigger, so technically your modelling to disadvantage.

The small square infantry bases are smaller than round bases use card bases blue tacked under the square ones or just re base.
Your army sounds fun I'd play it.

Would you be using the same army for WFB ?

yeah, general plan is to use Exodites, anime fan space magic and 'forcefields' as a response to any fluff related query

I'd have no problem with it, and strongly encourage budding Exodite armies solely based on how cool they often look.
The units you are choosing to represent sound like reasonable analogs to your WHFB miniatures which is really my only big requirement for proxies.
So go to it, you handsome devil.

While I must praise your self-confidence, I'm afraid I wouldn't let you use them as a proxy more than once.
If you were to put them on round bases and convert them to look a bit more 40k-ish than actual wood elves, I'd gladly play them any time.

I actually love the idea of using wood elves to represent an exodite army. However one condition I have to any army I play against is that I can see what everything is. To be able to do that you would have to at least have the weapons that are used be proximities of what they represent.
This means your idea of using spears to represent shuriken cannons would be a no-go for me.

Hmmm, could I give them fancyer arrows or something, as I still want them to be able to fit in with the rest of my Wood Elves, so maybe...? multiple arrows nocked in each bow?
Also I'm a little tacken aback by previous posters somewhat odd implication regarding self confidence :s

To me it just seems like you are trying to play 2 armies with 1 army. Now, don't get me wrong, i have seen several extremely well painted and converted exodite armies and would love to play against them. The thing was, they where 'Exodite' armies. Everything was converted at have the right weapons or equivalents and the models 'looked' like Eldar rather then Elves.
For example i would be OK with the Waywatchers as long as you jazzed up the base with Wraithbone, or painted the Bow to be a Wraithbow or something. Eagles as Jetbikes? Less so, nothing to justify 3+ Sv. Cold One Riding models however? That would work for me. Square bases wouldn't effect me much really. The only thing that might put me off is a lack of effort during the converting. Either go all out or non at all.

I'd still play against you but using a fantasy army for 40k is kind of lame and will make you seem like a cheapskate. If you actually kitbash them to look like Eldar and use round bases then I would have no problem.

Well....Yeah.
The whole thing about this is that I'm only using those models because they'll be part of a larger wood elf army, converting them over to exodites would just make them look daft on the Fantasy side of things.
Also, I don't have large amounts of cash to spend on a separate army, and the eldar are just going to be two units, as there's no way I could use Eternal Guard or Riders to conceivably represent anything in the Eldar codex.
I'm also a bit confused by the Idea of Cold One Jetbikes, I know Exodites often use the 40K equivalent, but there's no way on earth a reptile could move that fast and get do all the sky-jinkery tricks that Jetbikes get up to. I understand that entirely, It will be used only in my FLGS/ against friends in not-so-serious games when Necrons bore me and I only brought my Fantasy stuff.

Well maybe, but they look epic anyway, And you could easilu use these guys as either Sisters of the Thorn or Wild Riders.

I think eagles as jet bikes make a lot more sense than Cold Ones. It's silly to quibble about what save something "should" have while ignoring the vast difference in movement capabilities. As for the shuriken cannons, perhaps you could magnetize them so they won't clutter up the model when fielded for Fantasy. I wouldn't mind them being proxied by spears, as long as every model with a spear had a shuriken cannon, but it is reasonable to expect clear representation of equipment.

I'm actually surprised we don't have a supplement for Exodites yet.
The Path of the Outcast book has a few scenes where craftworld Eldar show up on an Exodite world to kill off a bunch of rampaging Orks. The Exodites took part in the battle and the description of their wargear was straight from the high elves of WHFB.

I wouldn't mind the square bases nor the models themselves but if it were me I would magnetize the weapons and get the proper weapons onto the models. Still I could even forgive whacky weapons for a good paint job. Rule of cool.
