IS there a HQ anywhere that can be made to be nice and shooty in the CSM codex?

CSM dont do shooty, they do CC. better to use the C:SM dex and play renegade marines.

Brand, bike, Nurgle mark and combi melta works nice, fast and shoots and is flat out worse than our awsome hack n slash builds.

Sorry but you asked the equivelent of whats the best crisis suit load out for cc, it exists...but why would you use it?

Most armies don't DO shooty HQ, chaos is one of them. sorry to disappoint.

You won't get much more shooty HQ then a combi-gun, or a psyker route witchfire dude.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Could do the BS5 warpsmith with a quad gun or icarus lazcannon from a fortification.

Thats about as shooty an HQ you gonna get.

There's the bolt pistol plus plasma pistol gunslinger chaos lord. That's 'shooty' in a way.

yeah, sorcerers, at least for the moment, can get some guaranteed shooty primaris powers and be able to fling up to three of them around in a single shooting phase.

Otherwise, as people have been saying, the burning brand. Other than that, I guess I'd note that you can take two combi-plasmas/meltas. That way you would have two rounds of shooting a plasma gun, and that's reasonably shooty. Also, don't forget that if you give him MoT and stick him in a squad with an IoF you can give his bolt attacks soulblaze.

Also, warpsmiths are HQ choices, and they come with both flamer and meltagun standard. And they can take a burning brand and combi-weapon too if you really wanted it.

It's too bad you can't put a Warpsmith on a bike. That would be fething ace.

One of the reasons I always laugh when people try to defend GW's piss-poor new game mechanics with cries about them wanting to give you "choices". Sure, they do. And then they feth you with silly arbitrary things like "Warp-Smiths don't get bikes or jetpacks or daemonic steeds huehue." Meanwhile, MotF and Tech-Marines are riding fly on bikes. Chaos gets screwed again.

Anyway, the most bang for your buck would imo be a Nurgle Lord with burning brand and a P. Fist on a bike. Expensive, but quite beety and murderous. Stick that dude in a flamer/melta bike squad and you're a terror on the field.

Oh realy
Dark eldar
Hexrifle homunculi, archon also has access to decent shooting weapons.
Tau
Needs no explanation
Eldar
Has a sniper HQ rifle with a 10ft range...BLAM
Astra militarum
We have HQ tanks...they shoot alot
Space marines
Chapter master Primarcs wrath, terminator armor, storm shield and chain fist. Walks about orbitial striking and shooting stuff dead.
Tyranids
Flyrants dont land they are too busy SHOOTING everything

So shooting HQ exists and its not that uncommon, Chaos however is left out, but that's ok because our HQ solo squads on their own so we are boned well in that area

Warpsmiths are pretty much a must take for a shooty list just for that -1 cover save to whatever your opponents hiding his objective scorers behind. Repairing your ranged vehicles and firing two weapons a turn is just gravy. Replace the power axe with a combi-melta and murderize anything with an armor value.

Honestly, unless it were for a tournament, this is one of those places I might be tempted to just cheat. Model a warpsmith on a bike and paint it up really nice, and then pay the cost for the bike with, say +5 or +10 points added on as a can't-usually-take-it surcharge. I can't imagine anyone complaining, especially if the model looks cool (which it would), and it would hardly be broken or overpowered.

Or, you know, get player consent first. In any case, once you played with it a few times, and everybody just knew what it was and that you always took it as your warlord, I imagine resistance would melt pretty quickly. There was someone at my FLGS years ago who used to run a techmarine on a bike (back when you could), and when they lost the ability to take bikes, it was hard to refuse everyone's favorite "Doc-Oc".

In any case, people get upset about others bringing stuff they don't think should be able to be taken (legally or otherwise). Very few get upset if you massage the rules to take something that should be able to be taken. Especially with a good paint job, backstory, awesome name, and lack of cheese.

Cypher is pretty Shooty.

He doesn't take up the mandatory HQ slot, and can't be warlord. But he's pretty DANG shooty.

I often dream of being able to put a Khorne warpsmith on a juggernaut... That would be awesome. It wouldn't be game-breaking at all, but like you said: chaos gets screwed again.

The hexrifle is a silly fluff option
The archon can be given a blaster, but a BS7 Blaster isnt worth 100 point. At least the warpsmith gets a meltagun, flamer, and boltpistol.

As far as I know there's nothing that lets a sorc shoot more than one witchfire per turn so only one 'shooty' power per turn. I guess you could trade in his force weapon for another pistol, giving him gunslinger, which may, depending how you look at it, allow him to shoot two witchfire per turn. But honestly I'd rather have the force wep, witchfires are pretty meh.

One shooty power per turn is still capeable to reaching freakish levels of firepower though, some powers unload like whole squads.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

For the most part I find my witchfires performing just slightly above a single special/heavy weapon. Not useless, but not fantastic either, especially for an HQ. Then there's the 60 some point TSon aspiring sorc whose likely to get stuck with the csm Tz primaris which isn't really even worth the risk of losing him to perils.

it looks like in 7th you can fire as many witchfires as you want.

Saw nothing about THAT anywhere.

Anyway, if you want a real "dakkamander" you got level 3 T heralds, who can throw around the level 3 version of the prime, meaning 4d6 dice coming out of a single model.

And they probably have a backup anti-tank power there.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.
