Don't take my word for it - I am just posting rubbish

Check out lexicanum and see if it says anything there. Personally I think they have just been quietly forgotten.

The Burble

Are they the v sane thing as D99 from the IA amphelion project? Because they were eaten I think. Although nothing is stopping more from being made, I suppose

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.

D99 are noted in IA4 as being surgically enhanced rather than gene tailored. I guess they are what Pyeatt was referring to as gland troopers.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I think some more info on what 'geno troopers' means. It could be the 'Geno Five-Two Chiliad' from 'Legion' (which AFAIK feature in no other novel or story as of yet) - this is my first guess.

Or it could refer to something else AFAIK. Genetic engineering is not exaclty rare but its not common either (or rather, its randomly practiced, like most things, across the Imperium due to inconsistent tech knowledge over time and location.) I mean you might mean Afriel Strain or Replicae (like from that James Swallow audio story - IIRC the replicae WEREN'T totally destroyed at the end of the novel nor was the tech... that actually surprised me.), but I don't think they're *exactly* genetic engineering either. A few sources imply 'enhancements' of a minor (and inconsistnet) degree (Dawn of War and the Gunheads novel) to at least some Cadian/Kasrkin but that may not be legit in universe (who can say what is with 40k) Edit: Heck as far as I understand things the whole 'heavy gravity - super soldier' concept in sci fi may actually be something of a joke (at least without genetic engineering or mutation of some kind) so you might even refer to that in a roundabout way - there even was an example of genetic engineering of tha ttype on humans into centauroid abhumans in that Barrington J Bayley short story from Let the Galaxy Burn, and IIRC Nightsider abhumans could have resulted from genetic meddling according to wherever I remember that from.. some abhuman supplement in White Dwarf, I think.)

so yeah, lots of random speculation possible here without more info.

From the Legion book, those were the ones I'm referencing. But those were all ditched on a planet that had a flesh-eating atmosphere. Chiliad's gone.

My question is... There was about a hundred more units of geno troopers in the imperium. Massive units of them... Where did they go?

GTA

This is all Theoryhammer so bear with me.

Gene troops were popular soldier's on Terra in a tech state that was more advanced then current 40k but lesser tech then the end of the Great Crusade. The Emperor created the Space Marines which were far superior to the gene troopers who were superior to normal humans. I think the Emperor wanted to focus on the Legions and the Marines as they were a better time and resource investment. Hell even the Thunder Warriors wrecked gene troopers hard. I think they stopped making Gene troops and the remaining soldiers were killed off in the Great Crusade.

As the Crusade was going on it looked like the Legions were doing well and were worth the investment. It is noted that the Legions did most of the fighting in the Crusades and the Imperial army was mostly used as garrison duty and rear guard. Then the Hersey broke out and the Loyalists lost half their numbers and the Imperial Army had to step up to front line fighting.

So why not use gene troopers? First I think when they were killed they were never replaced because the Legions were so much better and normal humans were cheaper and available in greater numbers. Then during the Hersey many worlds were burned and the Imperium lost so much tech during the Hersey. I believe the tech to make gene soldiers was lost during those days. Coupled with the fact nobody had made anymore after Terra was conquered the knowledge was lost.

Well in the Serpent Beneath, an Alpha legion short story, we meet a Geno regiment called the Seven-Sixty Spartocid and they go traitor due to being cooped up on a hell hole world and forgotten, so maybe a lot of the Geno's went with Horus? Also have to keep in mind that they may have been purged for being filthy psykers or simply died out due to people lacking the knowledge to genetically engineer the fighting men.

Ergo, Hope is evil, and you should stop having it, but you can't have despair because then Nurgle gets a free ride. You could be angry about this, but that'd just get Khorne's jollies off. And heck you can't even get your own jollies off without Slaanesh giggling and farting out some daemons. And if you manage to avoid all that, some genestealers might infiltrate your planet and bring a hive fleet crashing down on you any way.

GW didn't have models for them, so they don't exist anymore. New rule is no models = bye bye.

Creativity is the enemy.

To be honest I think GW has just quietly forgotten about the gene troopers.
