Things like the Mechanicum as a faction don't have rules atm tho... And when they shoehorned the Tau into the lore no one seemed to bat an eye...Anything is possible. Plus squats.

No need to invent new races.
There's plenty of absolutely fascinating groups and factions that exist in the margins of 40k's background such as the Slaugth, Thyrrus, Rak'Gol, Q'Orl, Hrud, and what not.
Not even getting into the Kroot, Genestealer Cults, Lost and the Damned, or Adeptus Mechanicus who probably rank as the most frequently demanded codexes. I clearly remember people getting very much upset about the inclusion of the Tau when they were brought in.
They were and to some extent still are massive base breakers in 40k.
Also, 1d4chan has heard your requests for space dwarves, and shall provide you with rules.
http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Codex_-_Squats
We could use your help to expand them though.

They came in just after I stopped playing...I remember liking the models and didn't hear any of my mates complain about them...But that was a pretty small sample size to go off of.
Those rules look like they are coming along...The characters are crazy high toughness tho, and the WS/ BS of the Hearthguard/Exo warriors equal a terminator champions! Plus I'm not sure about so much armour bane on everything, seems a little op. Otherwise, it kind of makes me want to convert up a squat army for the lulz.

Coilguns have very low strength values so even with armour bane you're not going to be penetrating a heavy tank much and their strength values and low weight of fire means that they'll be bouncing off MEQs more often than not. A heavy coil cannon is going to go right through a tank as it should of course, but it can't ID much of importance so it's role is pretty dead set.
Fusion projectors are lifted straight from the HH book.
As for squat toughness, I'm not 100% sure why the Warlord and Engineer have better physical stats than the regular squats, but the Ancestor Lord is meant to be a Dorfy Avatar of Khaine equivalent.
Guards and Exo-armour warriors may need some toning down though.

All tropes have been used already, I think.
Things that are likely to hit the shelves sooner or later:
Adeptus Mechanicus
Traitor Guard(supplement)
Exodites(supplement)
Particular Legions(through Chapter Tactics-like stuff)
No already existing xeno race would be different enough to justify making a new miniature range. We already have the devouring swarm with bioengineered weapons and ships, alien humanoids with psychic powers, ultra-ancient now mechanical race with reality-bending weaponry, Space Chavs, church militant religious zealots of various flavours(even battle nuns!), the crazy bad guys that serve dark gods, crazy bad guys that serve themselves and torture people(deldar), demonic monsters from another dimension.. even anime-like xenos with hi-tech weapons and mecha. Very few possible(playable) tropes remain.. one of them maybe suiting AdMech for those weird techmongers.
None of the currently existing Xeno races is really, really interesting nor would it have minis or special rules that'd set it apart from others cleary. Look how different Necrons were when they released. Or Tau.

Id like to see a new faction of these guys, playing up to the 80s/90s alien abduction craze. Instead of guns, they could have "abduction rays" or something. Flyers could be disc-like UFOs. You get the point.

Bring in the Iron Men. A true robot faction focusing on drones, working like a fusion of the Tyranids and Necrons mechanics-wise. Although what I'd love even more if they just made proper, good codices for all the factions that need them.

Taken from our Squat codex allies matrix, here are the /tg/brew factions we're making.
Battle brothers: Squats (Demiurg)
Allies of Convenience: Forces of the Tau Empire (Tau, Gue'Ves'a, Kroot, Assorted Auxiliaries), Armies of the Imperium, Slann
Desperate allies: Eldar (Craftworld, Exodite, Corsair, and Harlequin), Q'orl, Men of Iron, Sarhuadin, Thyrrus
Come the Apocalypse: Legions of Chaos (Chaos Legions, Renegade Space Marines, Lost and the Damned, Dark Mechanicus, Chaos Daemons), Dark Eldar, Tyranids (Genestealer Cults, Zoats), Orks (inc Blood Axes and Freebootaz), Grot rebels, Necrons (C'tan Loyalists, Dark Harvest, Independents, Triarchists), Slaugth, Hrud, Rak'Gol.
We could always use some help.

So.. XCOM-like UFOs? Unfortunately Tau are the closest to that in terms of units as you can use regular Tau troops led by(sic!) Ethereals and then you can use the auxiliaries. GW should really expand on those and make them more viable - Tau Empire is said to assimilate many xeno species - kroot and vespids can't be the only ones that are widely used on battlefields! Being able to make a patchwork auxiliary Tau Empire force would be frickin' awesome!

Yeah, I thought about Tau before I posted that. Maybe they got some inspiration for Tau heads from those 80s aliens.
But they're nowhere near as cool!
I wanna play with an army of Communions/Fire in the Sky type dudes! Probes and abductions and UFOs and wierd wierd science.

I'd like to +1 the notion of "let's see the current factions updated before we bring in new ones".
The Troops choice (singular) that Sisters use uses models from 2nd edition still

The Squats should be CtA with the Eldar, as the Squats had a long-standing hatred of the Space Elves (because Squats are WHF Dwarves in Space, and Eldar are WHF Elves in Space, and both races are subject to hatred of each other.)

It's a nod to Dwarves sometimes allying with High elves when things get really bad.
They're more likely to make friends than say, with the Orks or Black Legion.

Adeptus Mechanicus should really be a 2 way book where you could make either AM or Dark Mechanicus
then again Guard should be similar.

Thing is - you should never, ever expect GW to make something like that. We'll be lucky if they make separate Mechanicus / Dark Mechanicum Codexes. Thinking that they ever would make something such as a playable two-faction Codex is ridiculous. At best they could make the Traitor Guard a supplement for C: AM while Mechanicus gets it's own Codex with equal priced Dark supplement nowadays. :(
