I've always liked the Hrud. They've stuck with me ever since the 3rd Edition sketch. I don't see the as being particularly rat like, but I prefer them as being cowled hunched beings than to those things represented in Xenology.
The other particular one that I've found intriguing are the Psy-Gore. What were they... I think as a general rule the less we know about these Xenos the more interesting they are.
Here's my take on a "modern" Hrud, I hope to eventually create the entirity of that lineup.

That model is awesome and I agree a far better image than those wired loopy arm things in Xenology.
I was always intrigued by the Fra'al and we know a lot about them whilst knowing nothing about them too! It is this side to 40K which holds my interest the most, it makes the galaxy seem huge and filled with mysteries and much more real, it's a shame we don't see more of this side of 40K or to have the effect include the major races.

Kroot have enough screen time to not be obscure per se but they certainly are minor. If that doesn't count then I'd say Sslyth purely for aesthetic reasons. 4 armed snake dudes with a Dark Eldar fashion sense? I'm down with that

Finally found my quote from a gym buddy born and raised in South Korea:
"It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press.
"It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.
"It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate.
"It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag." |

Do you mean Laer? The Sslyth are a minor species in Commoragh the Dark Eldar use mostly as bodyguards. Here's a model for use in an Archon's Court: http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Dark-Eldar-Sslyth The Laer are probably very close too being all snakey and Slaaneshy, but I don't know enough about them. Being an EC fan though I plan on reading Fulgrim soon, I assume the Laer will show up a bit there.

There's a lot of pretty cool stuff in here. Many cool races that get no screen time. Hadn't even heard about most of those. Kroot which are basically more intelligent Tyranids. And WTF is with those Umbrals? Surely those are warp spawn, not biological beings? Right?
On the subject of warp spawn I always thought Enslavers were more of a warp presence than an alien species (although I guess if there's a dead body hanging in a Necron tomb then they can't be). If I recall correctly Dark Heresy called them basically living warp portals that bootstrap themselves to the minds of latent psykers and cause them to `eadbang. Then more enslavers start pouring out. Downright terrifying.
Also I never got "rat" from the old 3rd edition Hrud book. Guess the tail never occurred to me as a tail, more as a wisp of cloak. I looked at that image and saw "creeping death." Some nightmare being made of pure shadow that crawled along the ground toward you. Actually gave my poor gradeschool self nightmares a couple times

Definitely the Stryxis. Tribal traders that look like bulldogs and seem far shorter than they really are, with a very alien sense of value, and they are brutal slavers, selling "meat" wherever they can. Love them.

The Megarachnids were pretty beastly. Horus had to deploy Titan Legions to deal with them, and it was mostly because the entire planet was a giant honey comb.
On that note, the Laer. Particularly for what their profit, squid, baby thing said to...who was it, Loken maybe? Maybe it was Lucius. Whoever he spoke to, left the creeping message "Now it's your turn" basically. That, and the fact that aside from specializing in nearly every little thing they could think of, they were Slaaneshi pleasure slaves as well? AND they brought about the downfall of Fulgrim by tricking him into taking their sword? To me, the Laer were like Cthulu reaching out into 40k. lol
There is also something magical about a flying conch shell rave.
On that note, favorite race of all time that will eat everything (Tyranids, 'Crons, etc. included) is the Zerg. +___+
Yes....the Zerg. I will not say more than that, but suffice to say, I am a Zerg fanboy through and through and if I could, I'd run Zerg in 40k just to show Tyranids how its done.

Another vote for Slaugth. Always have been fascinated by The Worm that Walks and finding it in 40k was a pleasant surprise.
The Q'orl are another race that interest me just mostly because of their fairly large "empire" which is relatively close to Holy Terra itself. Kind of want to see more interactions between them and the Imperium of Man.

Oh! I forgot the Interex! The one race that made the 30k Imperium look like chumps with their lazor bow and arrows and Eldar-esque fighting styles and armor.
There was something symbolic to me about Horus getting shafted by Centaurs in that fight, especially after the flash back he had about the Emperor and blah-blah-blah.

I personally love the Thyrrus, Plasma weapon toting crazies who love nothing more than creating giant performances. They don't care about how many casualties are suffered on either side as long as the fight is a great spectacle.
Plus they're squid-like beings that can change colour and bounce around.
