Hello guys, only my first real post so i'm sorry if I break some dakkatiquette!

I wasn't sure where to post this question, I thought it would fit right here.

So me and my brother are looking into getting a 6'x4' gaming mat to play Warhammer 40k on. Since we live in Europe I don't want to buy any mats from the united states, because of steep postage costs.
I was thinking of getting a mat from gamingmat.eu: http://www.gamemat.eu/6x4-g-mats/6x4-g-mat-mayhem-square.html
or one from Deep Cut studios: http://www.deepcutstudio.com/category/mats-size-4-x6

I'm hesitating about the one from Deep Cut studios, because they are very very thin (only 0,4mm's thick) and they are made from PVC which is a form of plastic if i'm correct and I fear it might have a tendency to show the bends when you roll it up after playing.
Does anyone have experience with these gaming mats and/or could any of you recommend me any other companies or types of mats that worked well for you?

Thanks alot!

Hi and welcome to dakka.

Theres a thread about it here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/553077.page

My personal advice: if you are going for an urban theme, save yourself the money, order a "The Fang" spray can from GW and just spray the heck out of your 6'x4' board and boom you already got yourself a relatively plain looking urban gaming board. Once you place all your ruins on it, it'll look great enough.

GW is scared of girls. Why do you think they have so much trouble sculpting attractive female models? Because girls have cooties and the staff at GW don't like looking at them for too long because it makes them feel funny in their naughty place.

Oh I see thanks! we don't really have a 6'x4' board it's just a large table, think it's larger than that. But that's a nice tip thanks

I'd highly recommend FrontlineGaming's mats. Their urban mat is incredible. I've got one and its everything the others claim to be and more.

I second this endorsement. I picked up the Alpine mat during the Kickstarter and it's a fantastic product. Will be picking up the Urban one soon for some variation and use in other games.

I think the OP did mention the high cost of shipping for US mats. I myself would have liked a Frontlinegaming one but the cost of shipping included, is prohibitive.

I have just bought mats from Deepcutstudios. I have not played any games on it but to answer your query, although it cam rolled up very tight, there was no curling of the edges which did not flatten out with rolling it in the opposite direction.

I hope this helps.

After shipping the frontline mats look to be 92 euros, if you're comparing.

Too bad the cityscape mat from frontline is awesome it has starting deployments pre measured on the map. No more getting out the tape measure and using dice to make your zones.

I really like the frontline gaming mats. If I hadn't already gone for zuzzy mats (also awesome) I may have gone through frontline.

Based on your choices, I'd probably spend a little more and get one of the abovementioned mats anyway. Of your choices, I like the deep cut one more, but I'd share your wear and tear concern.

Yes, the frontline gaming mats look indeed incredible, but i'm kind of on a tight budget atm (having practically no time this summer to work, etc..) that i'm starting to refrain from getting a mat and maybe just get a 6x4 piece of styrofoam or something and spray it with texture spray and paint it up.

Once that's done i'll try to fabricate some ruins and stuff to put on there. Do any of you have experiece with this kind of thing?

(as this is my first real post, am I breaking the rules by going off topic or is this ok?)
