Thanks Jy2 for a bit of useful insight!
Though if he would have had 2 shunting knights it would have been a bit different!

Not by much IMO. 2 mobile units will still not be enough, not when my entire army is mobile.
Just spoke with Reece. Unfortunately, he told me that our report was not complete and that several turns were missing.
So I'm just going to have to sum up my battle later in this thread (or in the GK Tactics thread).

JY2 - another stupidly fast army to consider is a Ravenwing army with maxed out attack squads with attack bikes and speeders. Each troops choice brings 4 independent fast objective secured units.
That was a convincing demonstration of the value of fast scoring troops.

I faced an eldar list with 4 wave serpents and won with blood angels. They aren't THAT good. And won.

Despite the title to the thread, no one, including jy2, said they were.
In his opening post he even pointed out how non-competitive full mechdar was in his local meta.

Did you play jy2, yeah, didn't think so.
I find in general that it will be more fair to play games like a tournament, with maelstrom secondary, and discarding objectives that can't be completed. Have an Eternal War mission be primary. Playing fast armies just means that that is what you have to deal with, like other armies have their issues that are a pest too. You could make the same argument for Drop Pod lists. If you have to spend your time taking objective secured Pods off of all the objectives all game, that is just like (I know its not exact) if you had to spend time killing jetbikes.

Sorry, should have read the previous posts.
What do you mean did I play jy2? How does that have anything to do with anything?

People have been crying for 20 years about how to make games something other than 2 static gunlines rolling dice. That is now the case. Embrace it.

Damn, played against a lot of wave serpent Mechdar and in Maelstrom missions on my trip this time. Will report on them when I get back.

Yeah, Imperial bike armies are going to be good in this edition. Not only are they fast, but they have some firepower as well and can take some strong combos due to being BB (best buddies) with all the other Imperial armies.

Mechdar isn't invincible. They can be beaten. It's just that they are very tough to play against, especially if the Eldar general knows what he is doing.

There may have been some confusion here. I didn't mean that full mechdar wasn't competitive in my local meta. I meant that a full mechdar army run by me would be too strong for most of the people here in my local meta. That's why I wouldn't run it unless by request.

The BAO missions are exactly that. Eternal War missions as Primary and a simplified Maelstrom missions as Secondary.
Drop pod MEQ lists are going to be quite good. They don't even have to do much but sit on objectives and try to survive. Just watch out for the army with the offense/firepower to be able to potentially table you. Some armies (i.e. Tau, Eldar, AM) can actually do that.

Yeah, I like the direction GW is going with having primarily objectives-based missions as well as the Maelstrom missions. Now armies are forced to take some mobility in them or lose, despite killing most of the opponent's armies.

I'm sorry do you mean the Eldar list that was played by jy2, or an Eldar list in general?
Welcome to Dakka!

Hi, thanks.
I was referring to the list in this topic.
My idea was :
Farseer, JB, SSpear, Mantle.
WraithKn
4 Wave Serpents
3x5 DA
5 FD
6 WSpiders
2x3 WRiders(1) shurican

More wave serpents would have made it more competitive. My competitive mechdar list would have looked something like this:
Jetseer - Mantle, Stone of Anathlan
5x5 Dire Avengers in Wave Serpents w/Holo-fields
3x Jetbikes
Warp Spiders
2x Wraithknights

It's a good list. However, I'm finding it tough to use fire dragons properly, whereas dual WK's gives you very good board control. I'd recommend swapping out the FD's in WS for another WK. Otherwise, the list is solid.
