Now that you mention it... Covent Garden and Kensington are not exactly the cheapest places to put GW stores.
OTOH there is the west end of Reading, surrounded by Poundlands, Cash Converters, betting shops, nail bars and closed down retail units.

The Glasgow and Edinburgh stores are in pretty high rent areas as well, but those always have 3 staffers. I imagine all the 1 staff stores are going to be in much cheaper places.

Manufacturing in China isn't always a panacea. We've already seen a 1 year delay in delivery for the Secret weapon tablescape s (imagine the reaction we'd get if this were GW)', and now Hornby, who enjoyed a huge profits spike after moving production to China, have discovered the flip side of offshore production:

I wouldn't, anymore than I would move to Munich or Detroit because I love cars. Fine if you have a job, but otherwise it's not a place to aspire to live.

Just cause we drink all our money doesn't mean we're poor. Thankfully other people like our booze/oil too and England would dry up if it wasn't for our rain fall

Aye, so they tell us. Shame theres no hard facts to back that up either way but hey.
The only realistic advantage would be getting out of the questionable foreign policy commitments and getting rid of Trident from the Clyde. Amusingly getting rid of the sub base at the Clyde would allow us to drill more oil out of the west coast.
I don't think it'll happen though but its gave us all something to talk about in the pub apart from fighting and stealing which has been nice. Once Septembers past we can get back to killing some White Walkers. Automatically Appended Next Post: Where does GW get its books made then?

I don't think he can bend in the middle any more. Most Scots that dry out fully abroad become rigid and without regular I take of alcohol might actually have a meaningful use in a society say as a plank or diving board perhaps.

Depends whether they bought the properties that these stores are in - if they own it, then it's very cheap to run as they're not going to be paying astronomical rent (I'm moving to London in August, a similar sized place to where I am now will cost at least twice as much). Also, if they signed a long-term lease, it may be more expensive to break the contract than run it out. There is also a good chance that these two stores generate a huge amount of turnover for GW, even if the Covent Garden one is the size of a garden shed.

They won't own them. Not in Covent Garden or Kensington. I doubt they own any stores. No major company owns it's shops. Few small/single branch ones do.

If those morons don't outsource their machine downtown to run someone's product then they can go take it to the kipper for all I care. You would be a fool to downsize without utilizing paid off tooling equipment to run new molds. I use to work for a company that ran over 200 different tooling units. Our manager was dead nuts that came and launched 123 within 5 months of being there. We had such an employee problem he was on the news twice a week informing the public they were adding more jobs.
They still fired him after a year because some other nob took all the credit, I left with him myself because I knew what would happen. From what I hear they are tanking hard, fired over half their staff, and the place looks like a dump oddly enough, I have a die from that same plant in my new home.

Weren't some of the ForgeWorld minis cast in China at some point?
They were, yes.
Quality wasn't an issue, but production times blew out quite significantly, from what I saw, and a whole bunch of Chinese websites sprang up selling 'discounted' Forgeworld models.
So everything went back to in-house.

From what I had heard there were also issues with the Chinese management not wanting to do things the " GW way" in terms of manufacturing techniques.
GW has a standardized, tested way of manufacturing their plastics and metals that works very well, but the Chinese kept wanting to change things to use faster and cheaper methods, but those methods would have produced inferior product like the "restic" crap that comes out of most Chinese facilities.
