Exactly. For example Khorne doesn't want to 'win' and utterly vanguish all his enemies.

Do they forsee their newly choosen failing so badly? Do they regret it?
Its clearly to instate a sense of confidence before crushing them in the long run.

You know, I vaguely remember hearing about Tzeentch granting followers daemonhood, and then promptly giving them a True Name that was something obscenely common....
Human: "Billy!"
999,999,999 Daemon Princes of Tzeentch: "Yes Master"
Human: "WHAT THE EMPRAH!?!?!"

Since ascending, Lorgar and Fulgrim have done diddly squat. Perturabo has been outshone by Failbaddon. Angron and Magnus have struggled against single planets. And the most humiliating is Mortarion, he let Draigo do "art all over his heart".
That's just mattard fanfic.

So nothing like cursed in to a spawn, trapping a sanesh prince in a statue where it can feel nothing, khrone princes as unable to draw blood, tenech princes in a land where everything is the same and unchanging or other smart and atchualy creative punishments.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all. |

Frozen Ocean wrote:Ascension to Daemonhood is purely a reward. The Prince has proven themselves worth the gift already, and that's why they're a Prince. It's not because the patron God believed they would be an investment that would pay off later. Daemonhood can be granted for practically anything, from finding a lost artefact (even if accidentally) to burning whole systems in sacrifice, or just being liked by a God for whatever reason. By the same token, you could be a devoted, successful Champion of Chaos with innumerable victories claimed in service of the Dark Gods and never receive their boon. The Gods are fickle, and all that.
THIS
Some are elevated into daemonhood for what they did when they were mortal, not for what the gods think they will do in the future. The chaos gods pay off those who serve them well. The reward then fuels more mortals to serve the chaos gods in the future. By the very nature giving immortality makes a large number of their followers less interested in service, and a lot of them just go about doing their own thing, but there will always be new champions to take their place.

Just a note - according to the 4e Chaos codex, failed Daemon Princes get turned into Familiars.

Ironically, the Chaos gods, who loath stasis and cursed the Anathema (Emperor) who was waging war for stasis.... end up causing never ending war, a form of stasis.
Maybe they just like trolling the Emperor
