EM4 out of the UK is rereleasing the old Spacelords line from the 80s.

They have a lot of the same 2000AD, early Rogue Trader vibe of that era and might be of interest to Oldhammer fans or RPG players.

He just put out six that can be ordered via email but not from the site and hints there may be more... if orders justify it

I love those space beast men.

They're best painted in a heavy black line style with bright highlights. Like these RT era orks:

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Not a fan of the sculpts by today's standards, but the price on those is very agreeable. 1.50 GBP is awesome.

What's the scale like?

They're a bit smaller, more in line with late RT:

Wow, those bring back some memories!

Actually, that website is well worth checking out. Have some good deals on various things, found this collection of small scale spacecraft which would probably work well in a number of different space-combat games (12 ships for £2.55!)

EM4 paint brushes are also quite good.

The ships are pretty nice, plastic versions of the original I.C.E Silent Death minis

EM4 as a great company with a lot of good stuff, including lots of great old lines of miniatures (mostly Grenadier future warriors and Fantasy warriors) that scale up pretty well with current 28mm figures.

They've also got a fair number of plastic offerings including dwarfs, orcs (only a few poses, but still...), Battlelemechs, Spaceships and a ton of really affordable bases.

As to the Spacelords figures Don't be fooled by the initial look of the figures. Most Metal Magic (the company that first released them) minis are actually quite good sculpts and paint up really well. They're definitely as well sculpted as what GW was putting out in the same era.

Size wise, they are on the small side of 28mm (sole to eye), but nice figs nonetheless. I've owned the majority of the entire Metal Magic Spacelords line at one point or another, but ended up selling them when I was trying to downsize the number of projects I had.

I really hope this works out, because these are minis that deserve to be available.

Definitely a good company, with some very reasonably priced miniatures (to include various plastic miniatures). They have some of the best prices for bases too.

For additional information regarding there stuff - they maintain the Combat Zone Chronicles website:

http://combatzonechronicles.net/

Ostensibly it is to support their Combat Zone game - but the ideas, tutorials and other articles are quite good for all manner of skirmish games.

Regarding the size - I have a box of the old Metal Magic figures that I just randomly measured humans from. Most are right at 27mm to the eye. Less of an issue for non-humans (just call the Beastmen...Pygmy Goats). The armored guys are a bit taller than the unarmored, but still smaller than GW, but I know a few people who have used them to make shorter than normal alien armies (in the same line as scrunts and squats...just less beardy).

EM4 are top notch to deal with.

For folks who play fantasy dwarfs, they have a line of monopose plastic spearmen, two-handed axers and crossbow dwarfs for extremely cheap ($13 for 50 miniatures).
http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Copy_of_Fantasy.html

With just a little work (see this link) you can make some really super looking units for super cheap.

I am a fan of their metal death robots. They are smaller than necrons in both scale and price and look more terminator style to me.

I'm pretty sure are actual actual Space Orks. I think I might even have a couple of them. They are all Citadel miniatures, though I think a few of them may have been sold under the sub-brand "Marauder".

Yeah, they're marauder and citadel. I find the heavy black lining and bright highlights work really well with the older sculpting style.

Those four are all Citadel. They predate the Marauder imprint by a few years. Three of them are actually from RTB02 - Space Ork Raiders and the other is a "release" era RT figure.

Years ago I had an army made of their plastic troopers, I had to replace all the dust buster guns with MP5s but it worked.

I have the bald female space pilot figure somewhere as well as a couple of the Orks. From Citadel not EM4. I would be interested to know how EM4 ended up with the rights.

EM4 doesn't make the orks, they were posted as an example of how to paint this kind of sculpt.

Is the bald space pilot lady a GW sculpt though?

Maybe it is by a sculptor who worked at GW and went on to make some stuff for other companies.

The bald pilot is not GW or Citadel, it (like all the Spacelords miniatures) were sculpted for "Metal Magic", a Geman Game company owned by "Hobby Products". It is however ,possible, that the sculptor did work for GW. I don't know who sculpted them.

I remember those guys. I painted up a squad some years back and had plans to do more, but never got around to it. I kind of wish I hadn't sold the squad and had carried through with building a platoon of them like I'd planned to. Here's they are. Basic plastic figs, with the HW set torsos and SAW, command set arms on the leader, custom packs (IG binoculars) and warzone plastic rifles. Go easy on my paintjobs, it's just block-painting and dip.

I don't recognise her from the early RT models or associated lines like Talisman Timescape. I do know that many of the "Future Wars" Grenadier line that EM-4 now owns were sculpted by Mark Copplestone, and have a real "Aliens" vibe to them.
