Hi

Got the new ebook today and wanted to check that I'm reading this correctly, as it seems the deff rolla is situational at best now. The new rule is below in the spoiler. Am I correct in thinking that the only benefit of ramming is now +2 to the front armour value which is the same as the reinforced ram. Therefore the deff rolla offers 0 benefit against vehicles now over the ram as it would seem the s10 hits only apply to death and glory.

Can someone check this against the printed version or iBook as this is a rather big nerf to the rolla?

Spoiler:
“A vehicle with a deff rolla treats its front armour as two higher than normal when Ramming. In addition, if an enemy unit makes a Death or Glory attack on a vehicle with a deff rolla and fails to stop it, then the unit suffers D3 Strength 10 AP4 hits in addition to the damage they normally suffer for the failed attack. Furthermore, a vehicle with a deff rolla can re-roll failed Dangerous Terrain"

Kind Regards

im going with no. The AP is a joke considering it lost 3 attacks. It was debatable before because it would wreck vehicles, not so likely now since you need AP2 to explode non-opentopped vehicles and unless you roll a 3 AND glance/pen with them all, you wont destroy any vehicles now. Theres also the S9 Ram on top of that, but still unlikely.
Oh, and you still get a cover. Which anything you attack that has 4+ or worse armor will be in cover.

If you have spare points, bring it since its only a 5pt upgrade from the Ram which is auto-include. Might as well get SOME damage rather than add random ammo runts to units lol

Confirmed the D3 S10 hits only work for Death and Glory and you only get the +2 Armor when ramming.

Also.. You don't get +2 Armor when Tank Shocking.. you only get +2 Armor when ramming. So make you sure you announce that it is ramming.

You may now complain, it's been nerfed, you now have to replace all your rollas with Rams

It's just a slightly better Ram. I agree with Vineheart - it's not a terrible use of a spare 5 points (over the Ram cost) but otherwise not worth it.

But if you already have a BW with a glued-on Rolla, there's no need to rip it off - just don't expect the same super splatty squishy results from the previous codex.

Ha i actually didnt even notice you have to DoG it to get the D3 wounds on a unit now. Who the hell ever does that lol even when my Trukks tankshocked nobody ever DoG'd them because even against AV10 (now, 12 before with old ram rules) that ONE punch/shot you get can still fail and you lost a model to a TRUKK lol. Nobody in their right mind would DoG a BW.
Also means the additional damage is gone....before it was 2D6 if they DoG'd...lame lol

Its worth it because the ramming rules make it a STR 9 or ST 10 hit every time. Its 8 (half 16 front armor if you use that) + 1 (tank). Or you go with 7 (half of 14 front armor) add + 2 for the rolla ram bonus +1 tank for ST 10. Not sure how they'll rule that but I used STR 10 in my game today and it worked well even with D3 nerfed hits. :/

Thats enough to be pushing it around the table

Rolla ramming works exactly the same as for an ordinary Ram (for 5 points less) - the sole difference is that Rollas get bonuses IF the enemy tries and fails to make a Death or Glory counter-attack, which as Vineheart points out isn't really that likely. Given this sole dubious benefit, and the high dollar cost of the Rolla sprue (GW still being too cheap to include it in the BW kit), I'm expecting to see far more Rams than Rollas on the table.

You still get to re-roll failed Dangerous Terrain tests. I think that's worth paying an extra 5pts over the Ram.

I am glad that all my death rollas are magnetized, being 10 points cheaper but only having D3 hits I can handle. Only getting those D3 hits against failed death or Glory attacks, bye bye death rolla.

I'll probably drop the deffrolla on my battlewagons just to reduce the lenght of the thing. The deffrolla nerf is the only change that kinda bummed me out.

Ram lets you do that too.

Like Big Shootas, they are good enough that I shan't bother to cut them off existing vehicles, but I'm not going to build any more with them.

going with rokkitz on your BW now that theyre the same cost?
I might bring back my old idea of the Bustin' Wagon since tankbustas actually got useful and the rokkitz and big guns are cheaper on the BW.
15 Tankbustas in a BW with 4 Rokkits and Kannon. thats 20 S8 AP3 shots
