Subject: Weird Al to impose Mandatory Fun on July 15
“Weird Al” Yankovic will release his 13th solo album later this year. Mandatory Fun is out July 15 on RCA Records and is the parody artist’s first release since 2011’s Alpocalypse. There’s precious little information available about the contents of Fun, other than the fact that it contains a parody of Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” and a take on a band that Patton Oswalt cryptically says he’s “worshipped since the ’90s.”
Interestingly enough, this might be Yankovic’s last “album” album, since Mandatory Fun is the final LP due on his current contract with RCA. In a blog post last year, Yankovic wrote that he was “carefully weighing his options” about what to do next, saying he might switch to just releasing individual singles online, so as to stay more timely.
I've been a Weird Al fan since I was a little kid so I am definitely pumped about it. The wife and I saw him in DC four or five years ago and it was phenomenal.

Heck YES! Weird Al fan since the late 80's! I actually sat down and watched an episode of My Little Pony with my daughters when I realized Weird Al was guesting.
It's actually a pretty good show, really.

Definitely looking to forward to this. Say him both times he came to Dallas in the past couple years. Sadly, he didn't come by again before the end of his Alpocalypse tour, but a new album may mean a new tour...yay!

Weird Al Yankovic gets ‘Tacky’ with Pharrell’s ‘Happy’
By Matt Grosinger on July 14, 2014
We are teeming with excitement to announce that Nerdist is premiering “Weird Al” Yankovic’s first music video for his #8videos8days project. Feast your eyes on the video for “Tacky,” a wonderfully warped and wacky version of Pharrell’s hyper-bubbly mega-hit, “Happy.”
Featuring guest appearances from comedians Aisha Tyler, Margaret Cho, Eric Stonestreet, Kristen Schaal and Jack Black, the video shot on location at the historic Palace Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles, the same space that was used as Julianne Moore’s apartment in The Big Lebowski.
“We’re going to have some fun today!” Al told us before shooting began. “Thank you, Pharrell; I really appreciate it–you’re a cool guy,” he said as he cracked that famously wide smile.
Throughout the video we are treated to a wonderful deluge of clashing colors, socks-and-sandals, Jack Black’s backwards sequin fanny pack, and dance moves that resemble a fit of ataxia. Every aspect of the video is so tastefully tasteless, that we’re pretty sure tackiness will be the look of the summer.
As thrilled as we are about how big the music video for “Tacky” is, the rest of Weird Al’s album is full of exceedingly catchy parodies that we’re also ecstatic to blast on repeat all summer long. ”I am very proud of it” Al said confidently. “I think its my best album to date.”
We think so too. Our own Chris Hardwick couldn’t contain his joy at working with Al, “Al has ALWAYS been one of my idols. If you had told teenage me that I would one day not only be friends with him but also get to produce a video for him, my young brain wouldn’t have been able to process it. I have watched “Tacky” dozens of times and I can’t stop singing it. I LOVE YOU AL.”
Now all we need is a 24 hour version of “Tacky” so Weird Al can go on a crusade of faux pas around the world.
Head over to weirdal.com now to preorder your copy of Mandatory Fun. Then keep up with #8videos8days all week for more Weird Al greatness.

I absolutely hate "happy", and it makes me want to punch babies. So I'm sure Weird Al will do it justice, same as he did with "You're beautiful", which also made me want to set an orphanage on fire, but "you're pitiful" is fantastic.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

That new video was certainly... interesting. I like Happy, (but not that gaga over it) and I like this parody, I'm just not sure about the video. Kirsten Schaal and Jack Black area plus though. Here's hoping his other songs are even better!

Did that finally get released?
I remember the controversy around it, with James Blunt refusing to give Weird Al permission and someone uploading a bootleg. Too bad Blunt didn't get the same face-brick Lady Gaga got when she butted heads with Al.

Basically Weird Al put it out on the 'net for free, because at least in America you can parody things. The whole 'permission' angle is just cause Weird Al is a classy son of a gun and if you say no - he just wont put it for profit on an album, and in this specific case it was the record company and not the artist that didn't like it so he didn't even feel bad about putting it out on the web.

The locals made him do 9 encores last time. 5 more than he was going to ( I saw his playlist ).
How did you see his playlist?
No secret. i knew his roadies - I've worked with them on a previous show of his. It was one of my "between" jobs.
Like Timetowaste, I loathe that "happy" song - it doesn't make me want to punch babies - but hippies and dogs are fair game around here. Same with any song by James "chronic blunt". I just want him to drown in his lake of self-piteous whining instead of merely wallowing. Al's versions improved them both.
I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

This anyone who does like his songs is required by law to hand in their mancard. Unless they're, you know, a girl.
Although I haven't heard Al's parody. Gonna look it up now.
