Ahh... 40k.
Anyways, I have few proper bench-riders. Whenever I haven't used something in awhile I'll eventually make an effort to try it out again.
Most of the stuff that's been out has been things that I can't use anymore, and I don't want to remodel, like my sergeant with a shotgun and my junior officer with a storm bolter. Things like that.
There's only one group of guard models I have that rode the pine the entirety of 6th ed, and that was my commissars. Now that they finally work with a regimental standard and priests (which I've always liked a lot better) offer fearless, it might be some time before the trenchcoats make an appearance in my army again. Well, except for my lord commissar, who's still pretty badass.
Otherwise, the only unit I've consistently struggled to bring back is my basilisk. The 5th ed changes to ruins and the 5th ed meta shift to multi-shot weapons, as well as 6th ed's worsening of the ruins problem and adding in hull points added to the general crapulance of large blast weapons has seen the basilisk spend a vast majority of its time on the shelf. Which is sad, because I actually liked it back in 4th ed. For awhile at least.
I suppose we're in a new world of barrage sniping, and 7th fixed the ruins problem, and the new guard codex single-handedly killed the competition, so the bassie might see some love in the future...
... maybe.
If only they would go back to the old way where you could save 25 points by not giving it the barrage special rule. 300 points for a squadron of three assault guns would be something I'd be interested in.

I've got two nearly finished Triarch Stalkers. I've tried them many times with different types of lists. Those are the games I lose the most, so they don't come out to play much anymore...
There's also a monolith that never pulls it's weight and over costed Triarch Praetotians that never see action.
I can't say my C 'tan shard never sees the table. He makes for a great objective in Emperor's Will.

I think bolter scouts are a fantastic unit (I haven't finished building them yet, so this is all theory ATM) in a Sentinels of Terra army. Full twin-linking at half range makes the bolter scouts more damaging than any other scout flavor.

I play IF tactics so already have a boost to bolters, I just can't justify them in my list, not survivable enough to use as a serious objective taker an the wrong load out for a suicide unit
I tend to use shotgun scouts (with a combi flamer) in a LS storm or Scout snipers although they are being used less frequently now as well.

My GK magnetised LRC/R. Put it on the table twice, got toasted T1/T2 twice.....and now it sits forlornly looking at the stormraven on the table.
It has company, though, the GK terminators have a little bbq next to it.

Just with the SS they are over 80 points, at which point they cost the same and are more fragile while packing a lesser punch than terminators.

Never fielded a shaper. Have fielded vespid once. It was glorious. They blew up a land speeder and killed quite a few space marines. Always want to put them on the table but I just can't ever seem to be able to fit them in.

Put Shadowsun in squad, take her special shield drones, ???, enjoy your "mini deathstar".
On the topic at hand, I've had a horrible half finished conversion of a Void Dragon C`tan sitting on my desk shelf for at least 9 years, maybe more. I really don't know what grade school me was thinking when he thought that was a good idea. "oooh, GW has a bitz secion." is my best guess.

Actually been messing around with army composed of just genestealers, lictors, mawlocs and trygon primes (6th ed rules). Hasn't won very much due to lack of shooting but its fun watching an opponent have to deploy almost everything before I do, and then having a large swarm of genestealers so close.

Illuminator Szeras and my monoliths.
I used Szeras in 4 games to try and get a 20 man warrior squad
to 5 toughness. 3 Times I got +1 STR and once +1 BS. Never got +1 Toughness. I was sad would have loved to see 20 Warriors w/ Toughness 5 and a lord leading w/ 3 Ghost Arcs following.
As for Monoliths - I'd rather a Doom Scythe every time and it isn't cheaper. Even 3 Anni Barges are cheaper and it is about equal to a Night Scythes w/ 5 Warriors and a cryptek w/ the 4 shot haywire staff. Making the main weapon ordinance on the Monolith was really a big nail in the coffin.
