A simple question, I think. What army or armies have you collected over the time you played 40K? Either from just starting them, to currently playing or even armies that you have shelved away for the time being. If you would like, please share with us why you choose the army or armies that you do have.

For me, I have the IG and am currently collecting a Green Tide Ork army. I've always liked the idea of a regular human fighting against the horrors of the galaxy. As for the Orks, I am definitely making my army wrong by playing a CC army but I can say that I'll be having fun smashing what I can to bits. Like I told my friend, "I may have brought a knife to a gunfight, but you can bet your a** that I got a hundred more knife wielding lunatics ready to shank you before my body hits the ground and I'll be laughing all the way down."

For simplicity I rolled all the Loyalist SM variants into one to avoid making the list too long. If you guys would like to actually have the variants listed then please say so.

Waiting for plastic, I'm afraid. If they were cheaper/more readily available then I'd probably have at least an allied detachment of them.

Ad-Mech I'd happily do if there were enough models or I had the money to buy bits for a conversion project, but at the moment, that's slightly out of the budget range. I shall soon be trying to learn to do full-model sculpting as well, though, so that may lead to some Ad-Mech stuff.

Still, I have 4 Chapters of SM to go yet (Raven Guard, Iron Hands, Sallies and Scars) before any of that, not to mention other games.

CSM ~1500
Daemons (though I forgot to click them) ~500
Marines ~500
Knights ~1500
SoB ~1500

In order of purchase, though the marines are just a pair of 'Talons and a 'Raven until I finalise my Raven Guard List. Useful as a dataslate for the Knights in larger games though.

Next purchase will be either Tau, more CSM or more Daemons.

CSM is my main army, and I blame fluff + DoW for the choice. In fact, I like playing them, but they're a bit overcosted and lack certain tools to make them a truly satisfying army.

DE is the more educated choice. Not a top-tier army, but I like their fluff, appearance, firepower and mobility. When used properly they almost outperform the CSM part of my army list, even though for now I use them only as an Allied Detachment. Slowly expanding them, though.

I play Arbites but I use the IG codex to keep things legit. I have about 2000pts of them.

Finally my first army was orks and I have no idea how much I have for them easily over 3000pts.

RT - space marines, chaos, eldar, orks
2nd - Sisters of Battle
I later dropped orks and eldar but dropped Chaos when 5th dex came out. I hated the generic blandness of it.
I started an Imperial Fist army later. My RT space marines needed a retirement, though some of them made appearances in my Marine Malevolent army I was starting. (their gear is supposed to be scrapped together and whatnot.)

All I have now is the SOB army with Inq allies in hope that GW turns around.

My first army was Eldar since I liked how they look, the lore and the idea of a super fast army, full of powerful psykers and capable of unleashing horrific amounts of firepower. I then got Tyranids since I found the concept to be cool, though the rules lately haven't been doing it for me so I trying to get rid of them. Dark Eldar and Necrons were the last two armies I got, seems I cant help but play technologically advance aliens. Outside of sisters playing a human army never appealed to me, since so many other games are human versus human and I want to play something else for once.

I generally have a "themed" army whether its Suits, Wriaths, or an army of giant Terminators. Then I do my best to make them competitive.

My very first army was Tau, which I sold maybe two months after I started. Then I got my Guard, and I've had them since. My Guard is undergoing some serious revamping, as I pretty much sold most of my Guard army that I've had since the beginning.

The only army I'm thinking of getting would be a Salamanders Legion force.
