Which unit do you like the most? This is a relative question, based only on what is important to you and why. For bonus points, if you play something different explain why (and try not to give out ye olde "because the other army sucks" line.) Try and get into it.
For example, my favorite unit is Noise Marines. I could say that they're my favorite unit fluff-wise (and they are), but they're also my favorite unit because of how that character can carry over onto the tabletop as well. I feel like if you're using noise marines, it's because you like them for the same reasons I do, which actually breathes a bizarre and unique life into an underused unit. I also like the post-heresy Emperor's Children. Everything about them, from their crazy pink & black color scheme to how they are the most excessive (meaningful pun intended) marines in the galaxy. Even though I collect Nurgle, my favorite god is Slaanesh, my favorite unit is Noise Marines, and the only reason I'm building a mono Nurgle daemon army is because my #2 favorite unit is Nurglings and I'm not a big fan of the daemonettes and especially not a big fan of how the Seekers of Slaanesh are posed in rider/steed relation. The steed's running and the riders are sitting idle. Combine this with the fact that if I do a mono-god army, I'm making it mostly out of daemons. So Nurgle was my final choice.

Grey Hunters. They are one of the most solid troop choices in the game. Objective secured, Ld 9 with a wolf guard split off to lead, 2 melta guns, and a powerfist all for 200 points. Plus with mark of the wulfen and a banner they dish out tons of attacks. Once the 7th edition Space Wolves codex comes out and they drop in points they will be even better.

I love ork boyz. I used to think they were boring, but there's so much you can do with their poses and there's just something comical yet brutally scary about how muscular and mean they look. I also like them in the fluff, they have some great quotes attributed to them.

Guardsmen.
The only unit in the game with so much variation. They can be any 28mm human/humanoid model. With any weapons, clothes and armour and still be a guardsmen. They can be anything you your imagination can come up with.
Unfortunately Cadians make up 99% of guard armies, which is just wasted potential. But I love the regular guardsmen because they can be whatever you desire really (as long as they are humanoid and reasonable sized...)

Well it's more an issue of practicality as well as corporate support, you understand I'm sure. Besides, Cadians look like the iconic WWII American Infantryman. They evoke the "army" feelings in a lot of people.

Back with the old 5th ed IG codex, I always ran Stormtroopers in a 10man strong squad. They always did something useful for me.
Now I play IA12 DKoK list, and the Grenadiers(stromtroopers) are even better then the IG codex. I love how they are troops now.

No from what I see when other people buy a GUard Army they feel limited to Cadians when browsing the GW site. When I ask why cadians its ALWAYS because they dont like Catachans. Then they regret buying cadians when I show them better alternatives. Only one person I know likes Cadians and he is like 8.
Of course thats personal experience but the codex and models kinda push most people to just go with cadians.

I am constantly told that Dreadnoughts are useless these days, and that until I get them in a drop pod they are doing me no good. I can tell you that in the few games I've played since coming back last year, the two old, metal, newly-repainted, Imperial Fists Dreadnoughts (one with a MM, and one with an AC) have earned their points each and every time. Not to mention that I really love the way they look, and details I've put into their bases.

I started a knight army for 7th and I have to say I'm lovin' it so far. The background is pretty nice. I almost felt bad when I made my looted knight, since I wasn't gonna use any of it. On a more serious note, I love their rules and feel on the tabletop. They're the perfect unit to use if you tend to imagine the battle in your head as it's happening... So cinematic!
Definitely right up their with da boyz.

I honestly don't get why centurions are hated so much. I think they look amazing... I don't know about their rules but if I played marines I'd field them just for their looks.

Probably Stormtroopers, used en masse. Being able to open up a second front with a whole lotta firepower right where I want it is awesome, and has led to many enemies being encircled and caught between the elite Stormtroopers and the wave of infantry.
Other contenders:
Grey Hunters- If you shoot them, they shoot back and then charge you. If you charge them, they shoot you, and then 'charge' you most of the time anyway. Also, the models are amazing.
Terminators, because Terminators.
Imperial Guard Infantry Platoon- A Force Org within a Force Org, and a single slot that can bring more models than most armies.

Honestly? I love every model I own! I enjoy few things more than creating dynamic, cinematic action sequences in my mind and recreating them with plastic and glue and paint.
Overall, my favourite unit thought has to be Grey Knight Paladins. They are the best humanity has to offer in abundance. Each is like an Honour Guard from another Chapter, a warrior above all, from which there are up to 100 Paladins. They are almost unequalled amongst Astartes, giving even Captains and Honour Guard a run for their money.

Before the new guard codex, I would have said priests. A 4++ and a powerfist meant they could punch WAY above their weight class, especially since they came with Hatred: Everything on the charge (and gave it to the rest of the squad). And because their powerfist was actually an eviscerator, your 60-year-old-guardsman with his twelve-foot-long-chainsaw-sword could cut a land raider in half with a single blow given good dice. I'm actually tempted to start running priests with eviscerators again. All three I have were modeled that way, and if I pay, say, 50 points a pop for them, I can't imagine anyone complaining.
Second, and likewise, old stormies. New stormies are a different kind of unit, and do a different kind of thing well enough, but I prefer the old kind.
I used to run at least one squad of them a full 10-man strength with a pair of flamers, which was pretty much the definition of insanity when everybody only ran them as 5-man melticide squads. They were great at clearing backfield objectives, because all that special wargear you had to pay for actually got used. They were a superb "gotchya" unit to pick on opponent's weak spots. The 5x tactical terminators with heavy flamer of the codex.
But with those gone, I'd say khorne berzerkers.
People are always hating on them because they cost twice as much as a regular CSM but aren't any more survivable. But everybody always misses the part where they're three times better in close combat (or more, in my opinion). After a bunch of shooting, you might arrive with many fewer guys, but you'll still do more damage when you get there, regardless.
And the best part is that even a single khorne berzerker can do horrific damage. That S9 A4 powerfist champion will destroy your tank. By himself. A single berzerker with a chainaxe running into a squad of guardsmen will likely kill 2 or 3, and the remaining guardsmen only have a half chance to kill the berzerker, and if they don't, the most likely outcome is that they will break and run and be caught in a sweeping advance. One berzerker making it into close combat will mow down a whole squad of guardsmen on the charge. That is absolutely insane.
People hate on khorne berzerkers until they face off against two 20-man squads of them infiltrating with huron.
Who is my favorite special character, by the way. Possibly in the entire game.

If I had to pick a single unit as my favorite, I think the Weirdboy is it. I played it a lot in the previous Codex, just for the lulz. I never knew what it would do, be it good or bad. (often bad). Nothing more depressing then losing a 30 Boy mob when you mishap off the table :I But with the new Codex, his use is 1000x more effective, and I'll be fielding him even MORE now that I have less chances to purely blow my own Boyz to bits :p

The Leman Russ. It was the first thing I bought for 40k (Besides Battle for Macragge when I was a lad but that doesn't count) and for good reason. Sturdy, cheap, can be geared for nearly any role and it's tough as nails. Only thing I don't like is that you can't put track guards on the new kits. That's it. I love it that much.

For me, tossup between the Assault Marine and the Furioso Librarian.
For the former, it's an Angel of Death with wings of fire, descending from on high to mete out judgement with holy bolt and blade.
For the latter, what's scarier than a too-stubborn-to-die hero with a new body of adamantine to match his tenacity of spirit? A psychic hero with the same.

You know what you could have done, and still could do? You could, instead of building an army, build your own realm of battle board, or even gaming table. Make it really sweet, interesting and unique. Make it in such a way that you could bring it out if you didn't want to invite people over to your home. Paint that up instead of an army and then bring that to gaming nights, letting people play on it if you DM their games, and then use that to implement your Legion of the Damned as either an allied contingent or a wild card in peoples' games. Sounds crazy but fun. Not sure how cool others would be with it, though
