The old 3rd Edition Hive Tyrant with the long sweeping crested head. Looks exactly like a Queen from Aliens and I love seeing her on the table. And adding little teeth on the tongues of as many models as I can just to reinforce the Ridley Scott Alien vibe. She still has a place walking up even though the flying Tyrant is the unit of the meta.

You know what you could have done, and still could do? You could, instead of building an army, build your own realm of battle board, or even gaming table. Make it really sweet, interesting and unique. Make it in such a way that you could bring it out if you didn't want to invite people over to your home. Paint that up instead of an army and then bring that to gaming nights, letting people play on it if you DM their games, and then use that to implement your Legion of the Damned as either an allied contingent or a wild card in peoples' games. Sounds crazy but fun. Not sure how cool others would be with it, though
*snerk* I can just see it: "Okay, each of you roll Deep Strike dice. High total selects target drop point where a LotD squad is going to attack their opponent's nearest unit from... What? You're using an Imperial force? Guess you've got some heretics/Chaos Spawn/disloyal in your midst. Begin the cleansing via flamer!"

This is a tough one.
Thousand Sons - favored squad (yes I am ol skool). Just because I like the whole look and mythology.
Harlequins - especially with the current sculpts.
Vypers - the most awesome skimming tissue paper armor yet.
Leman Russ - used to hate how it looks when I first started, but I have 14 now.
Master Sammael - awesome model (though he will always die at the worst of times, most likely through a plasma cannon overheat)

Ork Boy Hangin' off a Trukk

I've usually got around 2-3 fave units from various codexes (what IS the plural of codex?) but the ones that stand out are:
Scion Squads- Something about the berets and backpacks makes me love them
Dire Avengers, space elf knights that shoot shurikens out of guns and jump around like mad things
Harlies! space jesters! Everything I love about everything really.
Triarch Stalkers and most necron armour I also have a soft spot for, as the models are just really great to make and look superb.
honourable mention goes to Deathwing Knights, as even though the rules are a tad sub-par, they look utterly gorgeous and really capture everything I love about the DA.

I really loved eldar harlequins with the old rule, which made the enemy to roll if you he could see them. They were so fragile, but when played right, they could kill pretty much anything.
I also like their poses and they brought some more color on the table.
Loved the comments when I deployed them: "No, not these clowns again"
Now they are just a bit boring, and you even have to cast that defensive power...

The only unit in the game with so much variation. They can be any 28mm human/humanoid model. With any weapons, clothes and armour and still be a guardsmen. They can be anything you your imagination can come up with.
Unfortunately Cadians make up 99% of guard armies, which is just wasted potential. But I love the regular guardsmen because they can be whatever you desire really (as long as they are humanoid and reasonable sized...)
Well it's more an issue of practicality as well as corporate support, you understand I'm sure. Besides, Cadians look like the iconic WWII American Infantryman. They evoke the "army" feelings in a lot of people.
No from what I see when other people buy a GUard Army they feel limited to Cadians when browsing the GW site. When I ask why cadians its ALWAYS because they dont like Catachans. Then they regret buying cadians when I show them better alternatives. Only one person I know likes Cadians and he is like 8.
Of course thats personal experience but the codex and models kinda push most people to just go with cadians.
i play cadians because i like the fluff, my buddy plays black legion, they do give me the army feel which is why i started them in the first place, they look like army dudes. I also buy a bit of catachan stuff and mix the bits for veterans, i love the catachan command squad kit.
My favorite unit though is tau stealth suits, they are like gundam marbos. And the models are amazing

.
Er... I was thinking more along the lines of "I'd be happy to let you play on this, but I'd also like to be able to field my Legion of the Damned as allies to your Space Marines. You wouldn't mind dropping 600 points from your list, would you?"
To which I imagine 2 out of 3 players would say "feth that I'll just play on the store's table"

You could make an army out of mostly just damned legionnaires. Take a chapter master or inquisitor as an HQ. I recommend an inquisitor for fluff reasons which I'll get to in a moment. Then, take 3 maxed out squads of damned legionnaires, basically as many as you can possibly take. Fill the rest with the inquisitorial retinue and whatever else you may like. When the game begins, the inquisitor and his/her mates start on the table, so that your damned legionnaires can actually play the game.
The story behind an army like this could be that the inquisitor has uncovered the secret to summoning the legion of the damned - he can basically summon them for aid whenever he pleases through some clever ritual or sub-vocalized word(s), not unlike one would summon a daemon. The high lords of Terra learn of this and immediately order a group of skilled bodyguards to escort the inquisitor to the holy planet, so he may share the secret with them so the imperium could count on the legion of the damned as constant allies from that point on. En route to Terra, the bodyguards and the inquisitor keep getting into trouble (maybe because the inquisitor actually wasn't planning on going to Terra...), so he's always forced to summon the damned legionnaires. There ya go!
Or you could just ask your opponent to disregard the whole 'if no units are on the table by the end of turn 1 you lose' rule when you play with your legion of the damned list.

For me it has to be a toss up between several models, the first has to be the humble Tyranind Warrior. They are by far the most cost efficent killers in my Tyranid armies, bonesword and lash whip is just too good at killing hordes of Orks or Guardsmen.
They also look damned good to boot too.
The second goes to the Grey Hunters whom has won me many games, provided much fun in both painting & modeling.
For the last I have to say the Dire Avengers, sooo good and so very much killy

Character- Astorath the Grim. Coolest fluff I can think of, not bad in game if your dice don't hate you. The meanest looking model in 40k IMO.
Fast Attack- Eldar Vyper. Looks great, plays well, but not stupid OP like several units in the dex.
Troops - Toss up between Necron Warriors and Grey Hunters. Both can come in large-ish units. Hunters have dual special weapons and counterattack and the cron warriors have res and gauss.
Elite- Libby Dreads. Conceptually they ate as badass as any unit gets. Throughout 6th they became my favorite unit in the game and delivered countless fun times, even if they play like utter gak now.
Transport - Nightscythe. Don't think I really need to explain this one.
Heavy Support - Fire Prism. Looks mean and graceful at the same time. A hard feat to pull off. In game it kick much ass in 3 different ways.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can make them downright tanky as feth (was planning to myself, but haven't got the codex yet)... Warp Talons count as Daemons and already have an invuln of 5+ - give them Mark of Tzeentch for a 4+ invuln and then have an allied Greater Daemon with the Grimoire --- buff the Invuln to 2+. Sure you have a chance to instead debuff their invuln back to 5+, but the times where you get 2+ would make it worth it

That doesn't however remove the fact that Warp Talons can end up costing you a fourth of the average sized army, and are only really useful when fighting Space Marines.
Although with invisibility spam, they might be semi-viable now.
