Whelp, I guess I have to hand in my choppa and call it quits. Played orks since 3rd ed, always been my favorite army. But people will stick with their love even through rough times. I have lost all desire to play them with the new codex. And its not even about winning, I have won games with it since launch. I don't know what exactly, its like somehow....they took all the fun out of the old codex and rushed this one like a homework project they had all weekend to complete, but waited till 11:00 sunday to get started on. No more artwork of the units, just crappy pictures of painted models that look like they are from a white dwarf shoot. A lot of the fun ways to make your army unique, like nobs as troops or deff dreads. Looted wagon as an afterthought, and when they do bother to add it back, guess what? Its not a dedicated transport option for anyone. So it always takes up a super valuable heavy slot.

The orkanaughts seem half hearted. Lets make an ork assault vehicle the orks cant assault out of! Nobody I have seen uses the gorkanaught, they use the morkanaught because its the only way to get a similar effect to the old kustom force field. Our leaders cannot get a single invun save in close combat anymore. Its fun dying to a terminator seargent with a power fist/thunder hammer without even the option of saving him.

Anyway this isn't an orks are bad thread, as they aren't. I would say middle of the road. Its more of an "im sad because they don't play the way I liked them previously, and I cant seem to accept that" rant. I have other armies, and I may pick up orks again in a year or so when I am bored. But the passion is gone, cant even bring myself to make wacky conversions for them, which was my favorite part.

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!

That's how I felt about Chaos. I used to be an avid Khorne player, but after 3rd they sucked all the life out of Chaos until they were just bland and generic and didn't really match the fluff they had built up. Sure, I still won, but was no longer fun.

Shame to see that happen to another player, been feeling the same way with my Tyranid army, though at least my Eldar, Dark Eldar and Necrons are awesome to play.

It does kinda suck that cybork bodies are now almost completely useless. They changed a lot of stuff that didn't need changing. The ramshackle rule, the mob rule rule, and the boss pole all lost a lot of flair (as well as aforementioned cybork body).

The Waaagh rule came back to full strength though so that's nice

For the guy who leaves it all on the field (because he doesn't pick up after the game).
Keep on rolling

Doesn't meant that you "aren't a true Ork fan", just that you prefer an older version of them. And that's perfectly fine.

I don't play orks but I was kind of afraid they'd have their hearts torn out with this 'dex.

GW's been moving towards a company policy of "it must have a model" which for MOST armies is fine, we lose some models sometimes but over all the suffering is minimal.

Orks however are all about "Kustomization"

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Orks have gone through many massive changes over the years. My favorite implementation is the original that people are still working with today. Don't take yourself too seriously, heavy blacklinging and bright colours and leave having everything being awesome and cool to the 14 year old Draigo fans.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

I had that Ork in the middle. One of my favorite ork figures of all time.

Who implied morkanauts were assault transports? They only hold 6 models...

Bye though, it wasn't meant to be.

Painted armies:

Orks: 11000 points
Marines: 9500 points
Khorne Marines: 2500 points
Khorne Demons: 1500 points

I remember thinking "he's got faces on his knees! I have to paint faces three times to finish this model?!" and now looking back on it, I consider the miniature to be so simple and clean looking and easy to paint up.

I think he was trying to quote a parody of the BRB. At least, I hope that's what it is

Buuuut as amusing as making fun of forums is, stay - if not for the orks, then for another army that does find your passion. I've found that the Thousand Sons and the endless uses of greenstuff for ever-changing daemons keeps me amused

Thousand Sons: 3850pts / Space Marines Deathwatch 5000pts / Dark Eldar Webway Corsairs 2000pts / Scrapheap Challenged Orks 1500pts / Black Death 1500pts

Saga: (Vikings, Normans, Anglo Danes, Irish, Scots, Late Romans, Huns and Anglo Saxons), Lion Rampant, Ronin: (Bushi x2, Sohei), Frostgrave: (Enchanter, Thaumaturge, Illusionist)
