If I keep it rolled up all year long and only unravel it for con demos, will it be a real pain to get it to lay flat?

I have a fat mat and a zuzzy mat. The fat mat is great only have had mine for a few months rolled up but it lays flat every time .

Bought a Zuzzy mat last year, it never arrived, zero response to the emails I sent, and due to waiting (as per the website) by the time I wanted my money back, it was too late to file a claim with Paypal. DO NOT buy from them.

The FAT mats are really nice and I'll be buying one in the near future.

There were several reports on this site recently that zuzzy was simply not issuing product at all and just taking folks money whilst the owner 'pursued his dream' of novel writing.

All of those neoprene mats lay VERY flat after rolling out. My Gamemat.eu mat is generally folded for storage and I have no issues with creases at all.

Thanks for the review, duder! One quick update is that we (Frontline Gaming) actually have UK distribution though a lot of mats are out until our restock in October. http://eustore.frontlinegaming.org/

Great review!

They are back in business and producing again. The pause in production was family related.

Cool, I'll get one of the frontline matts then

I started with a 2x4 zuzzy matt that I cut in half and made 2 2x2's and glued em down onto plywood.. but they're too generic looking, I think the 3x3 with the roads and stuff will work much better for me.

How do you like your zuzzy mat compared to the fat mat?

I would try and contact them again, according to them on their website, they are back up and producing again. They are producing everyones that they have missed.

Excellent post!
I had a lot thoughts about getting myself a mat, but it will have to wait... My Tau cadre takes all my time and money right now.

The zuzzy mat is nice but you have to paint it which is extra work. I got my zuzzy mat years ago and only took me a month or two to get. I put in a order with zuzzy late last year and never heard from them again. So I would avoid zuzzy.

Just a heads up for the UK Dakkites,

I've just managed to bag a Micro Art Studio 3x3 X Wing/Space mate from Trolltrader on eBay for £27 delivered. They're the rubber backed/mousemat style material and having received it yesterday I can say the quality is excellent.

I've not seen a rubber backed mat for this sort of price delivered anywhere else, and there doesn't seem to be very many left (choice of two designs I think) but it may suit some people.

I have the Micro Arts Studio 4x4 Infinity District 5 mat. I can echo Azreal's review that they are of high quality. They don't come with a very good storage bag however, so you might want to contact Frontline Gaming - who's storage bags are very good!

Has anyone ordered from http://www.deepcutstudio.com/category/mats-size-4-x4? They look really great, I like the look a lot more than gamemat.eu

Plastictrees posted a nice comparison of Deep Cut and FAT mats:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/663286.page

My first order from Deep Cut of their new material was a faulty mat, but they quickly rectified it (sending a replacement with an order for a separate mat which I made) and I am very happy with it.

Out of curiosity, is Zuzzy the only company who makes textured mats?

It's too bad these guys don't have bigger mats than 4x4. I would definitely get one if they had 6x4 or 8x6. I suppose you could put icestorm and warehouse together for a 8x8. Really sharp looking urban mats.

So, this may not exactly count as a gaming mat, at least not on level we have discussed so far. But this is something I had my eyes on for a while now and which I got myself today.

Green ReadyGrass® Vinyl Mat. It is really thin, re-rollable mat, with thin layer of flock spread across it. Intended for use mainly on display boards and for creation of big uniform surfaces (hills alike). But the good thing is that it can be a cheap replacement for gaming field. And it is pretty big. (2ft. by 2-1/2ft.)

@StarDrop - I have a couple of vinyl mats like that of different colors, in the 80"x50" size (I think they cost me about $25 USD). They're super useful. Great for straight gaming.

I think it's fake flock, by the way. It looks and sorta feels like flock, but it won't come off (which is a great thing).

I checked the size. Mine is 25" x 33". Which is bigger than the size they have available on the manufacturer website. Also, this fake flock can be peeled off, in order to make spots for roads, ponds, water flows etc.etc., as per manufacturer instructions.

I can see some terrain being build out of this once I get home.

@M1 miniatures - those are pretty cool!

Do you have high res pictures of any of them that you could share? Not necessarily of the whole mat, just some part of it. I'm particularly interested in the desert, daemon world, and castle ones.

Ratius, I don't have it yet but I've preordered their latest design and will have it in October (and I have both a F.A.T. mat and Deep Cut one in the same material to compare to).

Cool
I'm hoping to order soon in order to use it for the 2nd round of a round robin tournament.
Might just bite the bullet!

Post up what you think of it if you do! It's great to have several options for the mousepad style mats now
