I finally made it home for the first time in two years and was able to pick up a few things that I left behind when I moved. I didn't get the chance to go rummaging and gather up some of my older RT and 2nd Edition figures. Hopefully next time.

Classic goodness! Always fun to look through the old stuff. One of these days I need to put on my archeologist hat and go systematically though my shelf. I know I have a few of those things myself.

Codex Angels of Death and the Dark Elves army book are from the '90's. The Inquisitor stuff is from the early '00's. I have a lot of old metal stuff in boxes somewhere from 2nd Edition and some RT pieces too that I would love to unearth again.

I've been threatening to get back into the hobby and this has moved me further along that path. I spent last night watching some tutorials on wet palettes and other techniques

NIce find. It's always a good feeling to unearth old gaming stuff. I know where nearly all my old stuff is, but it's still nice from time to time to break out the boxes of old White Dwarfs and 2nd edition codicies. I found Inquisitor to be barely comprehensible and unplayable, but it sure is a beautiful book. I'll not be letting my copy go anytime soon

The "Angels of Death" codex was the first 40k book I bought after the 2nd edition box set. Ah the memories….

I was just leaving the hobby as Inquisitor was released. I thought that the figures were great, there just wasn't the support for it (and for a lot of people converting 54mm white metal is tricky ) Blood Angels were my first army. We had 2nd Edition Codexes for the Imperial Guard and Eldar too

Great Inquisitor is fun, remember the're unbound rules

Fortunately for my local group at the time, the games store we used to meet in to play Inquisitor also carried Andrea miniatures 54mm stuff, as well.

So additional models weren't as big an issue for us.

However, we switched down to converting 28mm figures (the game was flexible enough to do this) to play.

Inq28 seems to be thriving, shame GW don't want to support it

Man, I have so many unassembled Inquisitor figures...

Surprisingly, Hobbytown USA has been a good place to find them.

BB is thriving despite GW not supporting it.

Inquisitor was never well liked by many. They were expecting less rpg elements and more "winning". The idea of a game with a co-op mode where the objective isn't crushing your opponents.
It has weaknesses (all games do), but I preferred it to 40k. Still do.

RPGs are often a tough sell to wargamers - but the other way around generally isn't so difficult.

GW never really seemed too serious in their support of the game, and then of course abandoned everything except their core three games not long after its release.

I'm not sure that RPG's are a tough sell to wargamers at all. Most of my wargaming friends are interested in RPG's as well, and the Fantasy Flight 40k RPG's seem to be doing well.

I think it's more to do with
-Inquisitor not being a great game to begin with.
-A lack of definition to the game. Is it an RPG? Is it a wargame? Is it a hybrid? Clearly it's s hybrid, but it would probably have been more successful being advertised as a RPG
-A lack of support. RPG players like books, and one book, plus a free online fluff supplement, is not nearly enough to support a game.

Still, despite really expensive figures and a lack of focus, it does still harken back to a time when GW was willing to try something other than it's core 3 games and one-off Ltd. Ed. boardgames.
