So, the Spacewolves happen upon a hostile planet. Stumble upon a rampaging box with arms and a few dog-like skulls. They then decide to take in the stray pup and make it family. They have no way to determine who is in it or what it has been doing even though you can actually see the guy poking his head out and presumably talk to him!

Yay! narrative.

Does this about sum it all up?

I still can't believe they forgot to put the murderclaws in his war gear. Seems odd they would pass up the chance to say murder again.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous

A dreadnought abandoned on a planet where it's running about going berserk and trying to slaughter (oops, I mean murder) everything in its path. If this came up in, say, a BL book, my first thought would be "Chaos Dreadnought," not "pet."

Speaking of books, on two occasions the characters in Gaunt's Ghosts have defeated Dreadnoughts despite being hopelessly outgunned. Both times it involved making some tiny breach in its armour through which something dangerous (poison and boiling water) could harm the pilot. If they'd fought Murderfang they could have just poked him in the eye.

They never put relics into the Wargear. C:SM and C:CSM both list them seperately on the bestiary and the army list. That's because they are not Wargear, they're chapter relics/Chaos Artifacts.

Knowing Gaunt's Ghosts a sniper would have bounced a shot off 3 spoons, a light pole and another dreadnought before taking it in the eye and downing it from around a corner 2 miles away

It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I'll be the first to admit that by this point in the series a boiled dreadnought seemed like one of the less creative deaths...

As for Murderfang, well, it's never a good thing if your walking tank is vulnerable to every weapon from a rock upwards.

This guy needed to be a giant wolf MC.

Why the frig did they have to literally box this guy in by trying to squeeze into the fluff that he's wearing Dreadnought armour?

We already had dreads and dread characters too, would have loved a Giant wolf.

I think I'm going to model this guy as a giant wolf anyway.

He can have the remnants of his stupid dread armour either partially tattered across his manly rippling wolf fur of murder, or even better trampled under foot, sorry murderpaw, just for the WYSIWYG nerds.

It does feel a bit like something along these lines happened:

Dev 1: "Hey, I wrote this crazy fluff for a giant wolf thing called Murderfang!"
Dev 2: "Oh cool, sweet, err, but we are already releasing a big flyer, Logan Claus and a new Bjorn model, not really any space for a giant wolf"
Dev 1: "Hmmm, that's a shame"
Dev 3: "HAY GUYS!!" Why not just make it a Dreadnought?"
Dev 1: "Umm, it's already pretty crazy, it'd be downright stupid as a Dreadnought"
Dev 3: "Naaaaah, she'll be right, mate, just pop it in"
Dev 1: "Should I remove the bit in the fluff about it biting its enemies?"
Dev 3: "What? Nah, lets go grab lunch, leave it as is, I'm hungry"

I posted in the other thread but riddle me this...

What if Murderfang was a Lone Wolf of a Wolf Guard unit and had "seen some gak" and made him go absolutely primal. Give him a better FNP, ITWND, Rage, Rampage, TDA, Claws, and make it so he can sweeping advance because he's that crazy. Give him an extra wound, make it so he can never score or contest, 135 pts, Bob's your uncle.

I just fixed the character for you GW. Please sign me royalties.

Yeah it feels really silly, The good thing is that it's all the more reason not to line GWs pockets for badly conceived model releases

I'm not the best painter in the world but often do quite well at easy to replicate, authentic and awesome looking conversions/counts-as. Well, all that is pretty subjective as it's basically just me whose had to replicate them, and if I didn't think they looked awesome I wouldn't bother, but whatever, it is what it is. I've never done a tutorial before, but since this guys absurdness is a such a hot topic I'll be detailing my efforts to make an oversized Wolf look authentic on a Dreadnought base, and if I achieve it I'll be making a thread and tutorial on how to do the same.

Let's rewrite this model and make the Murderfang a bit less absurd. I mean worst case scenario I snip the legs off an oversized Wolf model and replace them with Dread parts, this is an improvement right?

My secret fortress at the base of the volcano!

Am I to assume that GW heard us all kvetching about the "wolfy wolf wolf wolferson" of the previous codex and decided to swap "murder" for "wolf" for this release?

The fluff for this model is... umm... er.... y'know what? I don't have the words. The English language is not sufficient to adequately describe how absolutely pants-on-head slowed everything about Mr. Silas Q. Murderbot is. Somebody invent new words, fast!

I kinda like Murderfang being a killer lunchbox. But then, a giant cyberwolf would've been cool too.

I don't even mind his fluff. It's cheesy, but then again, a lot of 40K lore is. I'm hoping he will be given more fluff than your average unit. The story if a venerable dreadnought turning feral seems like a pretty cool one to me, so I'd leave to read more about it.

How to be GW-creative.

- Step 1 : choose buzzword. Examples include: Blood, Wolf, Dark, and now Murder.
- Step 2 : choose some marine stuff, and put the buzzword everywhere.
- Step 3 : ???
- Step 4 : profit:

"Our fantasy settings are grim and dark, but that is not a reflection of who we are or how we feel the real world should be. [...] We will continue to diversify the cast of characters we portray [...] so everyone can find representation and heroes they can relate to. I'm glad they didn't make a four-legged dread, or put a wolf in a dread...if anything I think they would have been worse, and would probably have caused more fluff arguments. It's just the fluff and the names I find corny. I don't mind the model at all except for that bare head, which could easily be swapped.
