So a friend and I are getting into this game. Since he's taken Imperial, I've decided to roll with Rebels even though I like them less... just can't stand Reb. v. Reb or Imperial v. Imperial battles.

Anyway, I played the gak out of this star wars game for N64 when I was a kid, and turns out the main ship in it is this YT-2400 Freighter thing. I'm wondering if you guys can help me make a basic list that includes this ship and doesn't cost a million bucks

Chewbacca would also be awesome, but I imagine running two big ships like this wouldn't work?

Cheers for any help!

Two big ships can work. Double Falcon is a thing, and has some game.

The 2400 isn't due out til later this year, and the only pilot revealed for it so far has been Dash, so making lists with it is kind of tough. Might be a good idea to find some other ships you like in the meantime until it is out.

I don't even know where to look.

Is it possible to make a Merc/Bounty Hunter or otherwise unaligned faction? Like I said, really not a fan of blue on blue. I know Boba Fett and so forth are in this but don't know what side etc.

To be honest, if you're taking those freighters, you might as well just be playing neutrals/mercs.

Maybe you're carrying an imperial agent with a list of rebel spies.

Alternatively, you could be carrying those pesky death star plans to the rebel base.

Afraid not, Boba is working for the imps only.

You could run a YT-1300 and the YT-2400 together, since they are both rebel ships.

If I have to run "rebels" or "imperial" to play a merc faction thats fine by me.

I'm not up to scratch on the starwars fluff, which would make more sense - a merc group using X Wings etc or captured Tie starships?

I would say x-wings, they are after all designed by a third party.

Tie fighters also dont tend to survive all that long, probably hard to find any significant debris to salvage

"Blue on Blue" is pretty well justified in the fluff. After the Battle of Endor, the Empire rapidly turned on itself with just about every ambitious Imperial officer vying for Palpatine's empty throne. These civil wars raged for about eight years after the destruction of the Second Death Star.

"Red on Red" takes a bit more imagination. For such a disparate movement, the Alliance/New Republic remained surprisingly unified throughout the Galactic Civil War and after.

Z-95s would make the most sense.

I'd suggest y-wings for a merc force. It's well established that the y is an elderly but widely used starfighter - in the original TIE fighter computer game several missions involved flying against non-rebel y-wings.

... and against a LOT of Z-95s.

I think a Merc build would be fun, just by combining the two factions in a fun way. I just got to the part in one of the Rogue Squadron books where some of the squadron is mounted in modified TIE bombers, which Wedge comments he actually prefers to standard Y-wings.

You may find Mercs using military grade stuff, but most of them tend to use Uglies, which are fighters scratched together using scrap parts(X-Wing hulls with TIE Wings, TIE balls with Y-Wing engines, etc.).

Maybe scratch build some Uglies and use Imperial or Rebel cards for counts as? Like X-wing hulls and TIE wings as TIES, with the reverse as X-wings, Y-Wing Engines w/ TIE hull as TIE Bombers, with the reverse as Y-Wings, etc.

That way, you can play blue on blue without feeling dirty or whatever cause you're technically Pirates/Mercs.

Two big ships will actually work okay. The game was Shadows Of The Empire

Once the YT-2400 comes out, you can field the Millenium Falcon and the Outrider as a 100 point force - and incidentally replicate the final space combat scene from that game.

Outrider has the big stick, as it can take a 4-dice heavy laser cannon with a 360 degree arc of fire. Its weak spot is that it can't fire at range 1
The Falcon has a 3-dice normal attack, which is so-so at range 3 but increases to 4 dice at range 1 - meaning it's good at covering anyone trying to get into the Outrider's blind spot.

Add in 2-3 modifications and crew members to taste, depending on what other expansions you have. Gunner and C-3PO are good falcon upgrades. Luke Skywalker is essentially a super-gunner, but worth it if you have points.

Termagants expended for the Hive Mind: ~2835

Lol, a fleet consisting of two ships? Thats like the exact opposite of how I generally play anything... actually sounds pretty sweet just because of that!

I know you can get Chewbacca for the Falcon, is he worthwhile?

Also, is IG-88 a thing in this game? That dude scared the bejeezus out of me as a kid, I'd love to be able to field him on the table now

No IG-88 yet.

The Falcon is a good ship and Chewbacca can be either a pilot or a crew upgrade. Actually, I typically see Chewbacca being used as a pilot for the Falcon.

A list of "viable" rebel ships that work as merc/pirate/smugglers alliance:
Z-95 Headhunter
Y-wing
both YTs
HWK-290
GR-75
CR-90

I list these simply because they're all known to either be used frequently by non affiliated groups or because they're old enough to be readily available to anyone.

Yeah, but sadly it doesn't appear as though either of the YTs will be getting the new cards/base token treatment that the HWK and Firespray are getting.

Give it time guys, all it would really take is a repaint, new cards, and a base token. That's not too much effort right there and they're already doing it for a few ships already.

They have a lot of products announced and coming, they've hit a saturation point and probably need to wait until the next few release hit store shelves before announcing more.

I'm betting they put the S+V rework of both current YT's in the YT-2000 box when it invariably comes out later, and that ALL S+V versions will come in the appropriate blister/box next time they need to reprint them. Which may prove difficult for the blister versions :/ My guess anyway.
