So, I just finished listening (yes, listening, come at me, luddites) to Vulcan Lives and Unremembered Empire.

What struck me as odd was that after seemingly conquering his daemons regarding Curze and his torture at the end of Vulcan lives, he returned to being a terrified, gibbering mess in Unremembered Empire.

Am I missing something?

he died again?

Also Vulcan lives has the problem of mostly being from Vulcan's point of view. so it makes things suspect. did he really conquer things, or did he finally just snap to the point where his madness seems clarity?

I tell you what. You go get killed 50+ times in the most painful way imaginable and come back to me sane...........

As you can see, even a mighty primarch has his psyche destroyed by that kind of thing. It's just too much for an Id to handle.

If he wasnt crazy after all that he would be alot less human than any salamander aspires to be.

Honestly I didn't quite like it. He's survived multiple deaths relatively sane but just that one at the end causes him to snap. I mean 50+ deaths? That's not much.

If you've watched Groundhog day, that guy's gone through the same day thousands of times! Or even that new Tom Cruise movie Edge of Tomorrow. They die a buttload more times than Vulkan has!

They're trying to humanize the primarchs, make them more relatable. But I mean there's probably good ways to do that, but a lot of the time it just ends up making them look like babies

No it doesn't. Vulcan is a Roman God of Forging. Vulkan is the correct spelling and the name of a Primarch. As written in C:SM and all GW studio material, including Vulkan He'Stan who takes the Primarch's name. So Vulkan is correct as of the Salamander's records, and while I question the word of a human from 10 millenia ago, I don't give thought to the Salamanders misspelling his name.

Let's try not to derail the thread with petty debates over spelling. we all know who we mean

It's like God or god. In the end who cares, we all know who he's talking about.

The former was from Vulkan's POV whilst under great stress, meanwhile the latter is in 3rd person. So Vulkan may have thought he had done the daemon conquering OP mention, when in reality he hadn't.

I am with the OP on this. It was aggravating to see him conquer his mental instability at the end of Vulkan Lives, only to have him a psychological mess throughout Empire.... I guess teleporting through the atmosphere and burning up on re-entry can really take its toll on someone.

IIRC, the events of him teleporting out of Cruze's clutches, and burning up in Macragge orbit take place externally a year or so apart. Screwy Warp time effects most likely, which possibly messed him up more in the process.

I'd be crazy too if I had to sit there, frozen, listening to Trazyn drone on and on about how great all of his stuff is.

Oh, wait, this is about before that point...

Yes. Let's take Groundhog Day and Edge of Tomorrow as examples of what happens in reality.

Yes, let's take Warhammer 40, 000 as an example of what happens in reality.

That's not what Vermis said. The implication I got was that what Groundhog Day and Edge of Tomorrow portray does not make Vulkan breaking mentally from dying over 50 times seem babyish. Personally I feel like dying over 50 times in a relatively small amount of time would strain the mind. Not to mention the other forms of torture Curze was employing.

Having it happen ONCE and knowing it happened would strain the mind. You'd have gone insane or mentally numb long before 50 times.

I don't get what you are trying to say. It comes across quite clearly to me as "No way, get real!" All the rest of what you say makes perfect sense. I just don't understand what's coming from Vermis or you about Vermis right now.

It's due to a lack of co-ordination between the two authors.
