Greetings! newbie here, i played a 500pts game today and found myself stuck after eliminating the entire necron army except his
Necron overlord who totally demolished my remaining army of 5 termies..

My armylist is as follows:

Librarian
Sword/stormbolter
smite,The summoning and warprift

Strike squad x5
1x psycannon
4x stormbolters / swords

Terminators x5
3x Force halberds
2x force swords
1x incinirator
4x storm bolters

Any ideas or general tips are highly appreciated!

Was he using mind shackle scarabs? Cause those are great in close combat. The only defence to that is avoid assault with the hq.

If not, then that sounds like bad rolls. Also I'm used to having 4 power fists as termies, which would insta kill him.

My two cents anyway

2000+

Can you explain more why the Overlord beat you? Was it on a CCB?

You need some hammers on your termies...

As im pretty new to the game i can't really explain all the things he had.. However i had to roll 4+ to hit 4+ to wound and he got 2+ save, and when he struck me with his 3 attacks he hit on 4+ and wound on 2+
and i only get termie save on a 5+ except for the ones with the swords, who have 4+.

The hammers seem like a nice idea, i will probably try that out, how many would you suggest?

I actually got quite lucky with the CCB as it got shot down by my strike squads psycannon quite early,
but after it got shot down along with all of his troops his HQ who was on the CCB went bananas.

If you kill a CCB the Overlord on it dies as well. If he makes his Everliving roll, then the CCB would come back as well. It sounds like he had a warscythe which was doing all the damage to your terminators.

Yeah, there's something screwy with this whole thing.
Any chance you can get the guy to send you his army list?

I'll try to see if i can get his armylist, it contained the CCB(with the overlord) and 2 regular troops, i have no idea about the loadouts on any of them though.

once again thanks for all the replies ! i'll make sure to try out the hammers next time i face him, and i shall give you an update!

Worth noting is that we played 6th edition, what has changed can my librarian no longer use his psychic powers?

Clearly neither of you guys read your FAQs. You should get on that cos you guys aren't playing right.

Edit: in 7th, psychic powers from 5th edition codexes got ditched

Not really, just changes him up a bit. Psychic power mechanics have totally shifted in 7th btw (sounds like you're still in 6th so I don't know how much you already know). So yeah he can't take the codex powers but Sanctic Daemonolgy was pretty much a recreation of most of the GK powers, plus he can take any of the other disciplines that aren't biomancy

Sweet, il probably get the book today, might there be any power that would be especially good against a necron overlord ?

Haha, don't have my book on me atm. Pretty much everything from the 6e book is in the new rulebook so look there. The only new discipline is Daemonology and there's nothing I can think of off the top of my head from there.

To counter MSS, charge your enemy and don't let your character get in B2B with the Overlord. Your character will still be able to swing yet MSS cannot affect him.

If he declares a challenge with the Overlord, send your captain towards it.

Depends on what the other guy was running. If he had a way to get anything with Haywire across the table (eg. Storm-teks + Veil-tek), Dreads, or any vehicles, really, wouldn't be reliable.

I find that a squad leader or an HQ with a staff of warding is all it takes. Get the character into base to base, and laugh as things bounce off the 2+ invul save. Then have a daemonhammer or two in the unit smack the snot out of him.

Psychotroke Grenades are pretty cool.

Hold out bait to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and then crush him.

Well, if you take santic you can try for vortex of doom because a Strength D weapon in 500 points is funny, also +1 inv is cool on terminators (3++ with swords).
