Normally I paint minis but a friend asked if I could knock out a decal on his X-Wing Minis Falcon. Never done a decal before, but I'm a pushover. So this happened:

Hotlinks to DA out of laziness. Sorry if they're a bit big--if they need to be scaled down, just let me know. That last photo was just the decal, pre-aging. And pre-drool.

Lessons learned: I need a light box. Shop towels are really bad backdrops.

Aw, I thought you meant an actual decal/transfer and was like, wow, that's balls-out, gotta see that. But it's just freehand. Nice design and execution, but it doesn't look 'decal'.

Sorry, wasn't as clear as I could have been on that one. The intention was to hearken back to the shark/pinup decals or paintings on WWII aircraft. I ought to use quotation marks--"decal". Yep, it's...just freehand -_-;

To be fair, on a surface like that freehand is the most sensible thing to do; using an actual transfer would be far, far harder (to the point of raging lunacy).

Ugh, sounds like I'm detracting the piece- not my intention at all; it's very well done. :-)

Then why even comment? Why not just go on your way and keep it to yourself instead of sounding like a pompous donkey cave.

I think it is awesome, the teeth on the Rancor conform really well and accentuate the body of the ship.

Great work, eyecatching and certain to cause a good deal of conversation at the gaming tables.

Well done.

Not liking something you like doesn't automatically make someone a donkey cave. Not allowing others to express their opinions might, though.

I agree with BigRedStandingBy. It's good painting, but I don't see it being particularly realistic. Who paints a monster on their ship? A pinup girl, maaaaybe...

The same sort of person who paints shark teeth on their nosecone.

Or a wizard on their van.

Tasty looking lasses might be a popular choice, but anything else goes really, especially as the Rebel faction isn't a dedicated military and is instead made up from various factions and 'flamboyant' individuals.

It looks awesome. It think it would look better if it was smaller, it's almost overpowering, but still fantastic.
