Hello again smart peoples.
Having gotten the first few games under my belt since 5th edition, a few more rule questions that I haven't quite figured out.
Biggest An' Da Best:
Special rule from Waaaugh Ghazghkull that says if you have more than one model with this special rule, you can choose who challenges and accepts challenges. You can already choose which of your own characters will accept a challenge, so is this redundant wording? Or does this possibly mean that you can choose the enemy character to accept the challenge?
Challenge Initiatve:
When does a challenge fight happen in regard to the rest of the combat? If you win a challenge, overflow wounds go to the unit...and if the enemy unit is dead, your unit can jump into the challenge and attack the other guy's character. How do you figure out initiative? Do the characters go at their normal initiative, just resolving the combat separately from the rest of the combat?
Vehicle Explosions:
In 5th Edition, I made all these vehicle shaped craters, and when a vehicle was exploded, I would put the crater in it's place so the models could be placed in the vehicle footprint. Do exploded vehicles no longer leave craters? IE, cover?
D-Weapons
D-Weapons ignore all saves? Invulnerable saves too? I had a squad of wyches assault a super-heavy and glance it to death, which apparently causes an auto-exploding-super-heavy-of-three-different-sizes and removed my wyches from play. ><
Overwatch:
A few overwatch questions:
1. Does overwatch happen prior to close combat or as part of it? IE,
DE wyches have a 4+ invulnerable save in close combat, but a regular 6+ armor save. Which save against overwatch?
2. Can you take cover saves if you're assaulting through cover against overwatch?
3. Do special weapons fire overwatch (lascannons, flamers, lances, etc).
4. Do walkers get to overwatch if they are assaulted?
5. I have an enemy unit of space marines surrounded by three units of orks. All three units are going to assault the space marines. Do I declare my assaults one at a time (picking the nastiest to get overwatched) or all three at once, and the space marines choose which unit to fire at?
Close Combat:
1.
ICs join units during the movement phase. Say a Warboss moves away from Unit-A during movement (detaching), and assaults into an enemy with Unit-B. Does the warboss join Unit-B at the start of the enemy movement phase, or at the start of my following movement phase...or not until combat ends since close combatants skip movement and shooting?
2. I have a Dark Eldar beast unit that consists of 4 razorwing flocks, 5 khymarae and 3 beastmasters. They assault a space marine squad of 5 tactical marines with bolters, 1 with a flamer, 1 powerfist. I'm struggling to understand which models attack which models.
Let's say my khymarae do 10 wounds at I6 and my razorwing flocks do 5 wounds at I5.
-Does the marine player roll 15 saves in total and allocate the losses as they see fit? Do they need to be allocated pre-roll based on like models, and then rolled? Are they only allocated to models engaged with the models attacking?
-Does a 4++ Khymarae need to be in base contact with the powerfist to take the powerfist attack? If both a khymarae and a beastmaster are in base contact with the powerfist, can I choose who takes the powerfist attack?
Thanks in advance, I'm re-learning the hobby!
