Been a slow week for me painting wise with finals coming up, but once those are over I should be cranking out more figs. In the meantime I have finished the sergeant for my tactical squad.

Good luck on exams!

Looks good so far!

Edit: May I ask why you chip heavily? Sometimes I feel like it detracts, however it does make your marines look properly vetted up. (Don't take this wrong, I can't paint at all really.)

Thanks para! It seems like the finals will be on the easier side, but still you gotta study on the off chance they aren't.

I think you are a decent painter man no worries. But I felt like with this urban theme I am going with they would be running around scraping up against buildings and other debris chipping their armor. Also lots of imperial compliance were pretty once sided, so I felt like they could scratch the paint on them but not actually hurt the armor. Really its just playing to the narrative in my head.

But what is everyone's opinion on the chipping? Too much maybe?

Hm. I didn't think of it that way. It just doesn't suit my fancy but, then again I like absolutely clean, or clean and slightly chipped, or knees deep in mud astartes.

I think the others should weigh in. Your miniatures are stellar, that is really my only nit pick.

Your chipping is done well, so while o wouldn't go quite that far on every model, on the odd one it certainly works. I mean, if some rebel or insurgent lobs a frag grenade right in front of him, or he takes a hit from a low-tech missile, then it would quite possibly have that effect of basically stripping all the paint from his armour without actually doing any damage to him.

Narrative: forged!

Good points all around guys, thanks for the advice/criticism

Also I picked up Krell lord of undeath today to add to my VC army/ enter it into a local painting competition. I absolutely love this mode, from his menacing look on his face (skull?) to the loping forward motion with the black axe.

Its by far the best VC hero/lord sculpt and is my top three for fantasy in general.

Been a bit busy with school, but I managed to get some paint on krell and I am liking the way its looking so far, the sculpt was not the greatest and didn't have the detail that the webstore picture did. But I am happy with it so far.

Thanks para, what do you think of the ghosty hilt on the axe? I tried my usual ethereal technique that I used on my cairn wraith and spirit hosts, but skipped the last step.

I'd be tempted to darken the recesses just a little more to really bring out the faces, but other than that it looks pretty fantastic!

Got around to finishing most of krell, all that is left is the edge highlights on his armor plus some more weathering, then the edge highlights plus details on the black axe head and basing. I am waiting on an edge paint though from gw to finish that.

So I finished up krell yesterday along with a dumpster for my terrain. Overall I am happy with krell, but slightly less enthused with the black axe. I tried using a blue with the edge highlights on it but it was just too contrasting and so I went with a light green since black and green tend to go well together. As per usual C and C is most welcome!

And here is the dumpster, quite a nice little model and I feel that it will add more character to my urban rubble table!

Looks great, both Krell and the dumpster! Only things I'd suggest for the former are a couple of glazes; a green or blue on the axe just to tie the highlight in a little better, and very thin red on the cape, if you wanted it to look like flayed flesh, or brown if you were going for leather. Nitpicking aside, he's smashing!

I will try waywatcher for the axe, and yeah I was going for flayed flesh. I tried to put a very light BFTBG on the bottom part of his cape and it looks okay but not great. For the watered down red wash just spot check it then you think?

Yeah, do it on a small test area first, and if it works, repeat it on the whole thing. For some idea of how it'll work, see the Word Bearers I painted last month, all the tattered flesh on those was done with a very similar cream followed by a red glaze and a wee bit of BFTBG.

I recently challenged my friends orks to a 1850 point game with my death korp. Only realizing after the gauntlet had been thrown that most of the army was still in plastic bags awaiting washing and assembling. So for the next 6 days I will be frantically washing and assembling nearly 1k of krieg. Today I got three thudd guns plus crew finished along with two rapiers. Sadly my dusk raiders will be put on hold for a week until this marathon is finished, but I did get a basecoat and wash down on the rhino.

Dude nice choice on the Thudd Guns. I've always thought the artillery angle and crews were the coolest part of Death Korps.

Good to see the marines not hogging all the lime light, and to echo 40kFSU thudd guns rock they are really nice models.

Also you might want to try taking images against a darker background. The shading on krell looks fantastic, but with some of your other models it's lost.

Where did you get that dumpster from btw?

They are to be honest, they just feel right behind artillery.

My lightbox only has grey or black, I assume try grey frist then? I got the dumpsters from http://www.modelsandminis.com/.
They are having a memorial day sale right now with 20 percent off, so if you want to get anything nows the time.

As the building grind continues I have finished three more units. A platoon command squad, two melta grenadiers and a grenadier squad. Plus what is probably my most favorite unit in the death korp arsenal, the death riders!

I love these models, and while a bit on the higher side for points I still will field them quite often. Giving the ridemaster a power axe was a tough one since DKoK are not heroic scale and are a bit smaller. So I decided to use chaos warriors axes and the metal pole given in the kit to make the axe.

Lots of nice minis to work on there!

Is there a fluff reason for the feathered attachments to the Riders, or is it just for coolness?

Oh, and since OMN mentioned photo backgrounds, take a look at this tutorial. Copying it has done wonders for my minis, it should do the same for yours, and really show them at their best.

The lance tips are part of the Death Riders kit. But I'm wondering where you got the wings as well. It looks wonderful. Perhaps think of making the models a bit more dynamic for an even greater effect. If you wanna know how, see the thread in my sig.
