If you have no personal experiance as to who, what, where, when, why, and how of the military you have NO place to comment on it. Dirty civilians think they have a clue when all it is, is speculation and what they hear on the f'ing news. So if you havent been there/done that. Keep remarks to yourself and stay out of the conversation.

This is why people hate the military often. Im sorry, but just becaused you served does not mean you are inherantly better then someone. It does not give your opinions more weight or more gratidude and it should not give you a free pass to be a duece.
Im sorry, but this annoys me, Veterans should not be untouchable like so many think they are. They can be asses just like anyone else. And should be called out on it.

I think I have to agree here.

True that EXCEPT, if the thread itself is actually about why people would join the military. Then they are indeed more quallified to answer.

And no one asnwered MY question. WHat qualifies you to judge if wanting to kill Nazis is bad? In other cultures there would be no problem with that.

This is where experiance comes in handy. In the grand scheme of things wanting to kill or not doesnt make a bit of difference because its not up to you. Those who join because they have the hopes of killing someone wont last. If you join the military you better PRAY that you never have the displeasure of having to kill someone. No one joins to kill, those people end up becoming mass murderers.

At least 50% of the population is "mentally ill." Probably more. This just in, people are poor at handling their emotions.

The only way we can ever solve anything is to look in the mirror and find no enemy

Here is the post:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/30/615468.page#7209522

In a nutshell:

Joining just because you want to kill people, even if killing them would result in good, is bad.
Joining because you want to do something good, even it it involves having to kill people, is okay.

I make no guarantee about how solid that logic is, but there it is

I'm just saying that I find your argument a nonsensical one along the lines of "You can't criticize art until you've been an artist."

Of course I find the premise of the OP a nonsensical one too. I'm really just here for the hate. The delicious, delicious hate.

It's bad for the same reason that it is bad to kill a 1 year old baby. "I want to kill [whatever]" is bad if you want to kill just because you want to kill.

If somebody is trying to attack you and you shoot them in self defense did you kill them because you wanted to kill them, or did you kill them because you were trying to stop an attack?

So my opinion is that "I want to kill [whatever] because I don't like them or what they did" is no valid reason that killing them is okay. Killing, especially in war, as a means to an end is different than having killing just to kill.

Listen, I have 17,000+ posts. Unless you are willing to put in the time to get that kind of posting experience you need to leave the posting and the talking about posts to those who are willing to let the keyboard do the talking!

When people who have no idea of what is required of someone in the military and they like to speculate and elude to the fact that they are mentally ill for being willing to kill, kinda grinds my gears. So until someone has an idea of why we did what we did, what we had to do to survive then someone should keep their trap shut. Until you have stood there you truly have no idea why its done but to say we were mentally ill is a bit extreme. Help pack up your friends belongings as they are loaded into the back of a cargo plane in a metal box, then question why he/she did it.

Well, more like a video game you have to pay for, yet can't criticize despite it constantly reminding you what an amazing game it is but you totally wouldn't understand.

On the plus side this is a dumb thread that Namiel like, really slammed forward the throttle on to the eventual threadlock.
