Some one asked if there was a pic of the rear of the new "Stormbird". Here it is.

Personally I think it should be a loyalist primarch; traitors have 6 out of the 8 with a traitor one being the latest released. I'd prefer if it was corax over dorn as RG have nothing so far for their heresy models

6 out of their 9 Dorn makes sense though with all the IF stuff that's come out. We'll see tomorrow.

If it's Dorn though, quite an interesting move, as he has nothing to do with the Dropsite Massacre.

The FW Stormbird seems to be based on this Horus Heresy-Era Landing Ship (see end of post). There wasnt an official model (conversions for it in WD though). The art is from the 1st Edition Epic manuals - which lay the foundation for the Horus Heresy we know today.

The FW one is quite similiar. Same rear ramp, similiar engines, compartments for Rhino transportation, size, etc. FW seem to have skipped the moveable wings. The scan is sadly low quality so it is a bit hard to make out all the details

He meant 6 out of the 9 traitor primarchs.

I'm going to be controversial and say that I'm not writing the Stormbird off yet.

I'm not prepared to say I love it, or even like it yet, but if you look at the image, there's a whole lot of stuff to be done, it doesn't even appear to have both wings attached.

Given the choice of SM SH Flyers, I'd still probably go for a THawk right now, but I'm going to play wait and see.

Totally into the SM Vyper though, I don't 30K, but I can see that getting a coat of purple, white and gold and used as a Hellblade counts as for my late Heresy modelled, 40K Emperor's Children CSM.

I'm not writing off the Stormbird at all. In fact, I really like the look. It looks like a bigger, heavier, beefier Thunderhawk; which is really what I pictured when reading the books. Now, granted, we have actual reference images, but the aesthetic of this one fits better with modern 40k, I think. This isn't a case of the Stormhammer (even though I like that one) where they missed on certain details. They've changed this vehicles aesthetic to be more in line with the rest of the vehicles in 40k. I don't need them to stay 100% accurate to decades old art, especially when the aesthetic of that art is incredibly outdated.

Do we really want Alpharius to look lile that old Blanche artwork?

Yeah I'd agree with these thoughts on the stormbird, its still a WIP so its way to early to judge the model.
Also if I recall correctly there have always been two version of the stormbird the one with the huge turbofans and sleek fuselage (which I like alot) and the other more chunky one with folding wings and dorsal fins which I'm assuming is the look FW as decided to go with.

Keen to see how it turns out

Thankfully, we already know what he'll look like - and it won't be anything like that!

I can't imagine this gun not being compatible with the Reaver titan. it looks a lot like the old (very rough) sketch idea for the carapace mount I have from Will Hayes, with a tad longer rear. A closer look and it has the Titan style trim, and the scalloped line down the center. Nice of FW to make the new Reaver mount weapons dual use with this fortification.

I hope they make generic versions of the two new consul types. We are still missing models for a bunch of the consul options as it is.

That Stormbird has potential and looks like a heavy model! I like that it's armed to the teeth and has transport space. Right now it looks like a super upgrade kit to the T-hawk transporter, which probably helped get this model off the ground. Not completely sold on the wings, but I'll be happy to check it out again when it's all done! The reveals, so far, have lived up to expectation!

Ehhhh...bigger and heavier yes, but I didn't imagine it would take so many design cues from the Thunderhawk considering it didn't appear to be part of the same lineage(TH is an STC pattern, SB was built on Terra during the Unification Wars I believe so would have been drawn from the Emperor's scientific knowledge or surviving Dark Age tech), and it's always described as being elegant and swooping in comparison to the crude and boxy Thunderhawk. I suppose you could explain it away by saying the Sokar pattern was an attempt to speed production of the Stormbird by replacing its more complex elements with easily manufactured STC tech from the Thunderhawk template.

Still, I was rather hoping there would be more of a difference in style between the two. Not that I could ever afford one mind, hah.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

I could never build one satisfactorily, so I'm just in complete middle ground over that thunderbird.

I want to see a Primarch, will they reveal one at this shindig do we think?

Stormbird, I like it but I thought it'd be bigger. It appears to be a beefed up Thunderhawk transporter. I'm surprised there hasn't been more mention of the two Fire Raptor ball turrets it has to either side of the door.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Not impressed with the Stormbird. It's like they've just taken the Thunderhawk and given it a pair of breast implants.

I am however extremely impressed by those Ogryns. I needs me some of them.
